African Drum Classes

Experience the joy of African music by learning to play the Djembe and Dun Duns
Matthew has just returned from a 7 month trip to Gambia and Guinea West Africa
and is ready to share the inspiration and techniques he received while studying
with master drummers, dancers, and djeliba's of the motherland. Matthew
started playing in 1997 and quickly became the lead drummer for Dance Diaspora,
an African dance ensemble in Ohio. He has traveled to Africa 5 times and Cuba
twice to study and perform with groups such as… Fatala, Grupo AfroCuba de
Matanzas, and Clave Y Guanguanco. He came to Florida to attend FIU to get his
masters degree in African New World Studies became Musical director for Delou
African Dance Ensemble. He also teaches at local non-profits and works with
local dance troupes.
Six week workshop culminating in a performance
