Dear Loft friends and colleagues,
There is an event at the Loft this Saturday 6th December.
We are welcoming the well known science fiction writer Brian Aldiss and
members of his family to the Loft between 6pm and 9pm.
Brian Aldiss is perhaps best known for his story “A.I” on which the feature film by
Stephen Spielberg is based. He is one of the top five science fiction writers
in the world.
Brain has written an opera/musical libretto called Oedipus on Mars and we
are having a read through of his script. Brian himself will be reading the
part of The Dead. And, strangely, the great Ishtar makes a pivotal
appearance, though she is from a different period and place in history – and is also
well known as Inanna.
I am currently looking at the script with a view to writing the music which
Brian has invited me to do.
We welcome listeners (and possibly one or two more readers) to be present
for the reading and to an open discussion of the piece following the
reading.
From my readings of the text I think it is a strong work with a lot of potential – and
certainly offers some unpredictable twists on the original narrative....
You are welcome to bring a drink and edibles, and entry is free. Please arrive
by 5.45 pm. No entry after 6pm as we are recording.
If you would like to come along please RSVP by Friday 5th December as places
are limited to 20. (You must be sure to RSVP please, if you want to come. )
Look forward to maybe seeing you soon!
Warm wishes to all - for a Jolly Xmas and Happy New Year...
