Dear Loft friends and colleagues,

A big thank you to all of you who took the time to visit You Tube and leave a comment to support The Descent of Inanna. Thank you!!!  I think it helped ... but not in the way I originally envisaged... !

Unfortunately I was disappointed to hear the Linbury Theatre said the piece not eligible for a performance due to the fact that the show was not attached to a company with which to create a co-production.

Thus I didn't even get off the starters block there!

But.... !

The good news is that Inanna was selected (4 weeks ago) for the opening night of the Grimeborn Festival of opera and music theatre at the Arcola Theatre in East London!
This is an exciting, if slightly unnerving, opportunity....

The festival is offering the venue and a crew for one night, marketing and press coverage. The rest is up to me. I am due to speak to the Arts Council this week to discuss funding options.

If you haven't yet had a listen/look at excerpts from the piece you can do so here on You Tube

Here is what the curator of the festival Alex Sutton has to say about the piece :

The festival will open this year with Jenni Roditi's stunning dance opera
'The Decent of Inanna'. This is a truly unique work that straddles the
boundaries of opera, musical theatre, western art music and influences from the
Middle East and India.

From its opening bars the score dazzles with an immediacy that is so rare
within contemporary music today that it displays a perfect
understanding of its need to be a staged performance work.

Inanna really exemplifies everything that Grimeborn is about from its interest in
diverse cultures, theatre and drama to the vitality of the cast and their passion to
be part of the performance.

The performance is scheduled for August 24th.

It will happen... somehow! It may not be the full version with dancers, design, costumes and acting etc. But we are determined to present a version of most of the music.

At this point any ideas about raising funds to put this piece on are most welcome!  I will be doing an event in Hornsey Library as a preview in the near future. I hope you can make it.

I will be blogging in the next few months to keep a record of how things develop. You can follow the blog via my website. Do visit and leave comments!

Other good news is that I now have an agent! Red Orange

Miguel Santos who runs the company heard some of my music on My Space and offered to take me on.

I am performing some of my recent music at his festival LIFEM at Kings Place, Hall One, on November 4th.

I do hope you will be able to come to these two concerts this year!

Thank you for your support!

All best wishes and love,

PS Information about live music at MUNA's Restaurant on April 18th will follow shortly.
