I'm considering a trip to Southern California, and I would love to do some
singing while I'm out there.  Anyone know of any regular pub sings or chantey
sings, or know who to contact who would know about such things?  I'd like to
stay between Los Angeles and San Diego.

If you love traditional singing -- such as chanteys, drinking songs, dirty
sailor songs and such -- and like to jam with like-minded individuals in an
atmosphere of plentiful personal freedom while camping out, then this is the
place for you:  Rustic Roots Music Camp.  Chantey maven Jerry Bryant will be on
staff for this four-day relaxed but energizing musical immersion experience
August 16-19 in Eastern Connecticut.  It's primitive:  everyone tents, cooks
communally, swims in the pond, and sings and jams around the campfire at night.

Hey fans of the USS Constitution.  I just saw an announcement of this on a local
sailing board:

This Sunday (August 19)  The USS Constitution leave her dock (with tug
assistance) at 10am, arrive at Castle Island 11:15am, and sail by noon to head
for President Roads. She'll get back to Charlestown by 2:30pm.

In celebration of the 200th anniversary of her victory over HMS GUERRIERE the
USS CONSTITUTION will sail at 1000 on Sunday, August 19th, turning off Castle
Island, raising sail and firing a 21 gun salute.

Please observe the 300 yard security zone.
