Dear Friends of Fakoli Dance & Drum,
Happy Summer everyone!
We are in the process of promoting 3 special events and our new web site is
now ready. We also have a new CD available!
The first date you should know about is a great Kidıs Drum Camp at our farm
from July 5- 9. We will be making hand made Ashiko & DunDun drums & also
playing drums that week from 10 AM until 2 PM everyday. The kids get to take
their drum home with them. Please see details below & register early as
space is limited.
The second event is ³The First Annual Drum Intensive², for adults, also at
our farm in High Falls. That is from July 19-23 culminating in a Saturday
drum & dance party. We will also be making hand made Ashiko & DunDun drums,
drumming & eating home cooked African food. So register early for this
wonderful week of cultural immersion! Please see details below.
Our third event is our biyearly Trip to Africa which will take place in
August, 2004 and in January/February, 2005. We hope to have a full group
this summer so please inquire about the details ASAP. If you would like to
join us this January or February, we invite you to start planning for the
trip now.

(Participants can make a hand made Ashiko or Dundun drum to take
home. Students will learn technique & traditional rhythms from West Africa.

Daily Schedule, MONDAY - FRIDAY:
12-1:30 PM drum making workshop
2 -3:30 PM drum class
4 PM African meal
Saturday / Drum & Dance Party ( pot luck)

Drum classes only - $100/week ($20/class)
Meals only - $10/meal
FODE SISSOKO, master drummer, kora player, griot & choreographer is
from Senegal West Africa. He has been performing and teaching in the NY &
Hudson Valley area for over 10 years. He is a very talented and charismatic
teacher. The drum intensive will also be staffed by MAMADOU DIAITE,
Senegalese drummer and Mandinko guitarist. as well as other members of
FAKOLI DANCE & DRUM. ( FAKOLI means ³The Ancestor² in Mandinko )

TRIP TO AFRICA
***** STUDY DANCE & DRUM IN SENEGAL, WEST AFRICA ****
You are invited to experience the trip of a life time! Immerse yourself in
the music, language and culture of Senegal, with Master drummer & Kora
player, Fode Sissoko and the Cissoko family.
The Cissoko family are Mandinko Griots ( storytellers and keepers of the
oral history ) and are masters of the djembe & dundun drums, kora, song,
dance and music.
Stay with the Cissoko Family and experience first hand the beauty and power
of African culture. Participants will come as our guests and will be taught,
transported and fed with West African hospitality. Our family compound is
one mile from a remote Fulani village and is 5 minutes from the atlantic
ocean.
