Greetings Navajo Nation Band Members and Supports,
The year 2008 is almost half away done, our summer marching season
is about to begin, and our great Navajo Nation is starting to
blossom and turn green. Right around the corner is our annual
potluck and rehearsal which is in about two weeks. Before the
potluck and rehearsal we have been invited to perform at Concho 3rd
Annual Memorial Day Parade in Concho, AZ on Monday May 26, 2008 at
10 AM. Concho is about 18 miles West of St. Johns Arizona and we
need around 8 AM Arizona time 9 AM Mtn. Standard Time at Concho
Elementary School. Starting at 9 AM/10am judging will begin for all
parade entries. It is very important that we all show up and be
ready to go at 8AM/9AM and give the citizens of Concho one of Best
Performances of the year.
We will be reimbursing everyone who attends 1-way mileage and the
$50.00 per diem for the Concho Parade Performance. I am asking that
everyone show up in the Berry Wine Shirts, White Levi's Jeans,
Navajo style moccasins, Navajo Style Jewelry, traditional Navajo
Hairstyle for that is appropriate for both male and female with long
and short hair. I am asking that everyone bring all of your music
at this time the music line has not been determine yet. Because the
music line has not been determine for the upcoming marching season
we will not have additional copies of music on hand with us for this
performance. I am asking that you ask your fell bandmates to see if
they are will to provide you copies of their music. Any individuals
who want to join the band for the upcoming season will be asked to
show up at the May 31st rehearsal.
I am asking for everyone's assistant, over the years each new and
possible current member was given a booklet of music, but and over
the years those booklets depleted and now we don't have any
additional copies on hand. Please if you can provide one copy of
your booklet so what we can make additional copies for other new and
current members to have and used.
On Saturday, May 31st starting at 11 AM we will convene for the 2008
NNB Potluck. An tradition that goes back 70 years, where NNB member
and their families would sit down and have meals together. Today we
continue that tradition but inviting all past, current, and future
band members and their families to break bread to help kick off the
2008 marching season as we celebrate 70 years of representing the
Great Navajo Nation. Starting at 1 PM we break into rehearsal part
as get ready for our next performance at the Gallup Lions' Club
Parade on June 7th. We will gather at near the picnic tables just a
few steps east of the "Window Rock" or Navajo Veterans Park. Due to
fire restrictions a request is being made to help accommodate those
members who might be bring hot dishes or meals.
