RE: Mescalero 4th of July Trip
__________________________________________________________________
Dear Band Members,
We are only days away from our annual overnight trip to Mescalero, New
Mexico. Final preparations are being conducted, so that we all have
enjoyable time this year amongst fellow band members. Remember this
overnight trip is not a vacation, but an opportunity to represent the
Great Navajo Nation as the greatest musical ambassadors. The
following is a list of items that is important to the success of our trip:
1. Transportation: Bus service is being provided by Navajo Transit
System to transport band members to and from Window Rock, AZ to
Mescalero, NM. Due to the high cost of fuel I am encouraging as many
of you to catch the bus. There are a limited number of seats
available to all bus riders, first priority will go toward musicians,
twirlers, flag line and banner carriers. There is also a limited
space on the bus, so pack only what you need.
2. Lodging: We will be spending the night at "The Inn of the
Mountain Gods: once again. We do have a limited number of rooms
available for the N.N. Band; everyone will be paired in groups of four
to a room. If you haven't sign up yet, please do so, so that we can
start to build the final room assignments. Once the rooms assignments
are announce I asked that you stay in that room.
3. Meals: All meals will be at your own expense. Consider
breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks for two whole days. Remember
there are limited numbers of places to grab a snack once we arrive at
place of lodging. Please consider the planning of either a cook-out
Thursday evening or eating at Mescalero Fair grounds. It has been a
while since we all have eaten at the fairgrounds.
4. Uniform: The uniform for this performance will consist of the
Berry-wine top, pressed White Levis Pants, Black socks, Navajo style
moccasins (black shoes in the event it rains), Navajo style jewelry,
and white headband or hair tie.
5. Chaperons: For this trip we will have two female chaperons who
will assist in the band staff, band members, looking out for our
youth, and also serve as water carriers. Our female chaperons are
Shirley Barney and Marlene Craig who will be riding with us on the
bus. A male chaperon may be joining on this trip, person to be
determined at later date.
