Navajo Nation Band Members, 3/17/09



Welcome to the continuation of the 2008-2009 marching season of the Navajo
Nation Band. The Navajo Nation Band has a unique opportunity to participate with
Navajo Nation instrumental musicians from local reservation secondary schools.
As some of you have read in the Navajo Times the Navajo Nation Band has been
invited to attend the 3rd Annual Dineh music festival in Chinle, Arizona. Mr.
Eric Swanson, who I had the pleasure to meet when I was director of the Band
several years ago, had asked if the Navajo Nation Band would be interested in
participating in a gathering of high school bands on the Navajo Reservation.
This gathering would focus on offering reservation youth an opportunity to share
their own talents and gifts with other aspiring and accomplished musicians. I
was happy to find out that he did accomplish his goal and this year had asked
for the participation of the Navajo Nation Band. The Navajo Nation Band will
participate this year.

The date for the Dine music festival is March 28th, 2009.

The Festival is to be held at the Chinle High School Campus in Chinle, Arizona

Schedule: 10:00 am - 12:00pm Tutti rehearsal
1:00 pm - 2:00 pm workshops
2:15 pm - 2:30 pm Jerome Jim
2:30 om – 2:45 pm NNB promo
3:00 pm - 4:45 pm tutti rehearsal
5:00 pm - 6:30 pm dinner
7:00 pm - 9:00 pm concert ( each group will perform, followed by the
Diné Concert Band)

The participating schools and the NNB will be splaying musical selections for
the concert. At the end of the individual schools' and NNB's performances
everyone will play selections shared from each organization.

One of the goals of the festival was to offer musicians a glimpse of seasoned
performer's experiences in a master class. At this time I as asking if anyone
would be interested in offering their time to answer questions about their
experiences both practical and technical if applicable. If interested call

told that all brass sections are open, as well as, saxophones and low winds.
