So glad to hear from you!  Wow what great things you are doing.  I know and love
Greg Tamblyn and Richard Mekdeci both!  How

I will put you on the group list for the New Thought Musician's Alliance.  I've
had a feeling that it would grow past Houston and probably past Texas to the US
since I started it, and you will be our first person outside of Houston (besides
Wanda who I just discovered moved up there!)  The NTMA is a networking, support
and education group for musicians, music/choir directors, soloists, songwriters,
etc who are into positive, Spiritual, transformational type music, or who want
to have greater access to playing at New Thought churches.  We have people from
Unity, Religious Science, Unitarian Universalist,Metaphysics in general, and
Traditional Christian background, as well as Sound Healers, etc. plus musician's
who just want increased gigs wherever they may be!  The purpose of the group is
to help the members grow musically through networking, shared opportunities,
exposure, and education and to help raise public awareness of New
Thought/Positive music as a genre in public
  consciousness.  Helping to promote New Thought musicians and music is a passion
of mine!!!!! Our planning committee will meet in December to plan various events
such as speakers, combined choir concerts, jam sessions, fundraisers,
songwriting support, conferences etc. for 2006 and beyond.

I will share with the group your wonderful projects and website info, as well as
your desire for guest musicians so that everyone can share in the opportunity.

Wanda forwarded info to me about the New Thought Music group in Houston. This
sounds really interesting!  I am music director at the Unity Church of San
Antonio.  At the first of this year I produced a compilation CD on the theme of
peace using singer/songwriters from San Antonio and Austin.  We used it for a
fund raiser for A Season for Nonviolence.  In August I finished a CD of my
original tunes, and am just now finishing up another CD for A Season for

Hi Everyone,

I've begun to put together a planning committee for our NTMA-H group
so that we can truly be a dynamic resource for information,
networking, and opportunities for one another.  This will enable us
to better support each other and grow, not only musically, but as a
community.

I'd like to see us hold events that help to increase exposure for
our members to churches and the general public(which will lead to
more gigs!), plus offer us all educational experiences, and help
promote New Thought/Positive/Transformational/Spiritual music into
greater public awareness!

Some of the functions of the committee will include:
Speaker Selection and Calendar Coordination
Creating "Jam Session" or "Coffee House" events at local churches
Guiding the creation of our web presence (more on that soon!)
Member and Group marketing

If you feel that you would like to be involved in this opportunity,
please let me know.  Lisa Canida and Bruce Ross have already agreed
to participate in the committee. We are very excited about the
future (and present) of this group and what it can truly do for us

We will try to hold a planning committee meeting in December to
finalize action plans. The proposed actions and events will be put

opportunity for a nice-paying gig, hot off the presses:
This just in from TC Smythe...please read all of it and let TC know

Here's where it pays to be in the group...
A client e-mailed me today to ask if Smythe and Taylor could play a
New Year's Eve gig in her home.  We're already booked, so we can't
do it.
The gig will go from 9pm to 11:00pm (or midnight if she can get
permission from her homeowner's association to make noise until
midnight.)
She wants to have it outdoors if the weather is right, (tent cover)
but can move it indoors with a small PA (one speaker, no monitors)
if it rains or gets too cold.  The pay is $300.00 for an individual
or $500 for a duo.  Up to you if you want to split that into a
trio.  The repretoire should be 80% cover, up to 20% original,
recognizable acoustic music consisting of light rock, rock, folk,
jazz, and pop and country (in that order of preference.)  You must
learn the first two verses of Auld Lang Syne.  Think Eagles, Tom
Waits, Geroge Benson, James Taylor, Glen Campbell....  a few holiday
tunes certainly can't hurt.  Family oriented stuff please. No
swearing or lacivious content.
Applicants need to e-mail me live recordings where possible or a jam
session on MP3 or something so I can screen and forward to her for
review.  She will make the ultimate call.  Since she may continue to
look on her own, I'd suggest you get this in quick.  I can't wait
for snail mail.
I am charging a 10% fee to cover the adminstrative/screening
process. Payment will be made to you, and you pay me the 10%.
Please understand that this client has heard alot of fine acoustic
music in her time, and is offering a fair wage consdiering the fact
it is coming out of her pocket and not some company.  If you sing,
but don't play so well, then find someone who does.  If you play
well, but don't sing, then please get a good vocalist to come along.
Instrumentals are fine, but lyrics should be heard at least part of
the time.   She also wants to book other private parties in the
future."

his goal is to include any musician who works with transformational

2. Performance Request>>

I am seeking volunteers to play at Circle of Light Fellowship (my church) for
our Candlelight Service on the 18th.If you are interested,  please contact me at

3. Sound Connections Conference>>

I attended a fantastic conference put on by Unity called Sound Connections. 
NTMA-H member John Hardesty was also there and we had an unbelievably wondrous
time!  I highly recommend this conference to musicians and music directors who
want to get more involved, network and learn.  We had workshops, sharing of
talents, service music sharing, a "store" to sell our cd's, late night
sing-a-longs, and OVERWHELMING support, inspiration, and camaraderie like you
wouldn't believe!  I feel really transformed as a result of that conference, and
met so many other music directors from all over the lace>USAlace> whose churches
I'll be singing at.   For those who don't know, long time New Thought musician
Richard Mekdici  has been appointed by the Association of Unity Churches to head
up a department who's purpose is to help promote awareness of expand the musical
opportunities within the New Thought/Transformational music genre on all levels.
He and his team put on the conference and he also puts out a monthly newsletter.
If you want to get the monthly Sound Connections newsletter (which I also highly
recommend) you can go to   unitymusic-subscribe@yahoogroups.com .  If you want
to see a copy of this month's newsletter, go to

Well OK!!! The Hurricane is now due to be a Level 5 and to hit Freeport (yikes,
that's close!)  Soooo...the Sat. 24th meeting is definitely postponed!  My hubby
and I are evacuating; I hope you all do the same and take your instruments with
you!  I don't mean to create unnecessary alarm, but if this hurricane hits
Freeport as scheduled and is still a level 5 or even 4, that is serious.

Hello All,

Since this Saturday does not work for most of our members, I am
rescheduling the Sat, Sept 4th luncheon mixer until Saturday
September 24th, Noon -4:00. As Todd reminded me, this coming weekend is labor
day weekend, and too many people had a conflict.

As soon as I find a suitable location, I will announce the place.
As always, I'm open to suggestions.  All we need is a relatively
central restaurant that is quiet enough for us to hear each other
talk!

We have several new members who have not met everyone yet, so this
is very exciting!

Hello Positive musicians of the NTMA-Houston!

The buzz of excitement for this group is growing and it's time to
have the long awaited next meeting!  How does an informal mixer
sound to everyone for Saturday afternoon Sept 3rd?  This will be a
great opportunity for networking and developing relationships.  If
response is good I'll set a time and a place.  Any suggestions for a
place?

Also: NTMA-H welcomes newest member award winning songwriter Phil
Smith.  Phil's years of experience allow him to write in a variety
of styles including, but not limited to, choral, theatre and solo
pieces.  His creations have been used in numerous chorus and theatre
performances and he is very open to collaboration with other
songwriters.

the base guitarist and vocalist who MC'd the Unity Jam last night
(which was a BLAST by the way!).  He is also head of (I think that's
what he said) the Houston Musician's Union (Keith PLEASE correct me
if I'm wrong) and is quite jazzed about getting involved with our
NTMA-H (pun intended; he's a jazz player).  On Sundays, Keith plays in the band
at Unity Pyramid @9:am and 11:am.

sure you do!  This is for Music Directors, Musicians, and Choir Directors, but

Thought Recording Artists that are well known throughout Unity the way my

1. First Meeting: Our inaugural meeting was a smashing success!  Two new people
joined (see below), we discussed ideas for how our group can support us as
musicians and music directors, swapped resources, and shared experience strength
and hope with one another!  I had terrific feedback from everyone; the energy
was high and I believe we all felt really great about the meeting and about the
tremendous opportunities in store for us collectively and individually with the
power of combined energies.  Seems the buzzword for the goal of everyone is
unanimously: EXPANSION! Personally and for New Thought/Positive Music as a
whole.  I will send copies of the handouts i distributed as soon as I figure out
how to get them into PDF format!



2. Next Meeting: We decided (or I decided?)to hold meetings once a month for now
so long as that works  out.  I'd like to do some Saturdays and some evenings to
accommodate those who have conflicts with Saturdays.

Boy time has flown, hasn't it!!!
I've been out of town performing at a New Thought conference in California, but
now I'm back and ready to re-schedule that famous first meeting.  This will be
our initial kick-off to determine how we can best support one another and create
a really dynamic group together.  Come join us and play a part in creating a
really powerful New Thought Music community!

Choir Director and professional New Thought recording artist!  John is a
professional songwriter/recording artist/composer and is very eager to see New
Thought Music grow and to join forces with us to help create new opportunities
for all of us.  Glad to have you aboard, John!



(As the group was forming not everybody got a public welcome, so I would like to
send out an e mail in the near future that introduces everybody!!  Everybody
deserves to be seen and heard)

Hello All,

I am postponing the meeting originally scheduled for Saturday the
23rd because too many people had a conflict with that date and I
really want to start our first meeting on a day when as many of us
as possible can be there.

A date has not been re-set just yet, but rest assured, it will
happen soon.  In fact, if you could e mail me and let me know what
days tend to be easier for you, I can get a feel for when to
schedule the meeting so that the largest number of us can attend.
I'll do the best I can to pick a good date for us all.

I'm really excited about the doors that this group will open for all
of us.  I know from personal experience how powerful it is to come
together as a unified force of like minds with similar intentions.
We will all have various reasons for joining: for some it's to get
more gigs, for some it's to socialize, for others it's to grow the
New Thought/Positive Music ministry or give back to the community.
For some, like me, it's all of the above.  All are valid reasons,
and the intangible benefits received from bonding together only add
to that value.  I'm really glad we are doing this!  It's an idea
that's time has come!

Let me know what days (or nights) are good for you!

Hello,

It's time to conduct our first meeting!

It will be on Saturday, April 22nd at 1:00.
We will meet at Cafe Express on Voss and Woodway this time (I like to be close
to food whenever possible!)  Cafe Express serves delicious and healthy fresh
food pleasing to a variety of palettes. See link to map and address below

Our first meeting will be primarily a getting-to-know-each-other session, plus
an opportunity for group consensus on how we can best help one another as
musicians/directors/songwriters/etc. so bring your ideas and your thinking caps!
I have lots of ideas to share and I'm sure as a group we will all come up with
many more.  We can also decide at that time where our next meeting should be
held.
