BORN TO BE WIDE RETURNS FOR 2005
www.borntobewide.co.uk
Born To Be Wide celebrates its first birthday on February 3rd with a
move to The Street on Picardy Place. The re-launch coincides with a
diverse line up of guest DJs from across the arts which includes The
Zephyrs, actor and ex Exploited bassist Gary McCormack, Benbecula
Records label boss Steven McConnell and Shaver's Weekly editor Murray
McKean.
Whilst the club will continue to feature guest DJs playing their
favourite tunes and prohibit the use of headphones, laptops and
other "accessories" behind the decks, it will also introduce a
selection of resident "wideos" to create a loose musical direction.
"We have decided that every week we want to include at least
one tv theme, one soft metal anthem and a selection of the best
in new Scottish music," says phonographic retail specialist Brodie
Smithers, who co-hosts the club with film maker Martin Smith and
music industry expert Olaf Furniss.
The organisers are also pledging to introduce a range of different
surprises and plan to announce further guests and exciting
developments
during the coming weeks.
Past guests have included:
Hermeet Chadha (John Peel Show), Phil Kay (Comedian), James Yorkston
(Singer), Dave McGeechan & Dave Corbett (T In The Park), Vic Galloway
(Radio 1), Riley Briggs (Aberfeldy), Colin Somerville (Broadcaster)
and Radio 4 (Band).

Stuart and David Nichol - The Zephyrs (Band)

Edinburgh band The Zephyrs have built up a strong following
throughout Europe, appearing at major festivals during a five year
career which has spawned three albums with a fourth in the pipeline.
"I LOVE the Zephyrs - it is the kind of music I listen for pleasure;
wonderfully atmospheric, aesthetically cool and guitars to die for,"
Brent Hansen, president/chief executive MTV Networks Europe (the man
who brought the MTV Europe Awards to Edinburgh).
Stephen McConnell, launched Benbecula Records in 1999 as a platform
for to release his own music. Since then it has evolved into one of
the UK's most cutting edge electronic music labels with acts such as
Operator, Christ and Reverbaphon gaining it a solid reputation both
at home and abroad.
