For one night only Edinburgh's best alternative clubnight I Fly
Spitfires will be upping sticks and taking over Gig on 30th December.
The night will kick off with an exclusive playback of the new Strokes
album, First Impressions of Earth. Resident Gig DJ and Beat 106
stalwart Jim Gellatly will also be providing some musical
entertainment for the early revellers.
Providing live entertainment for the evening will be The Cinematics,
the Very, the Rushes and thee Comrades.
The Glasgow four piece beat combo The Cinematics are an intriguing
gang of young boys with an eye on some fairly serious goals. With
influences ranging from The Cure, Television, Magazine, Wire, The
Smashing Pumpkins to Talking Heads, The Smiths and Jeff Buckley. The
band have a diverse taste in music which in turn makes their sound
interesting, but easily accessible.
Two piece noise merchants The Very are currently one of the best (and
loudest bands) to appear on the Edinburgh scene in some time. Put
heavy punk riffs, 3-minute pop songs and disco beats into a blender,
add a sprinkling of new wave awkwardness and season the result with
the energy of Hardcore Punk and you'll get their particular brand of
taste-bud-tickling, highly danceable rock'n'roll.
The Rushes are a young Edinburgh band formed by a love of each other
and a love of the emotional, energetic music they create together.
Inspired by the city they live in the band produce powerful live
performances and have amassed a large and devoted following in
Scotland's Capital. After a truly stunning performance at the first
ever Spitfires, it seemed only fair to invite them to play again.
Thee Comrades are an edinburgh based band who play upbeat indie pop
music. Particular favorites of theirs include XTC, Blondie, the Smiths and the
Futureheads. Formed in late spring 2004 they set out to cheer up the faces of
the miserable Edinburgh public. They have taken to the challenge with gusto,
just ask any regular at I Fly Spitfires.
As well as all this fine live entertainment the resident Spitfires
DJ's will be ripping up the decks until 3am, playing everything from
the latest indie hits to old favourites to unknown tunes waiting to be loved.

Misfits @ Subway Cowgate - Edinburgh
Quite a few changes for Misfits come January. I've included the press release
below but the jist of it is that we will be moving to a fortnightly Friday, have
a £2 door charge, and 'emo' is dropped from publicity, replaced by 'electro'.
Appreciate if you could update listings to reflect this.
Misfits
Subway Cowgate
Next dates: Friday 27th Jan, 10th/24th Feb
11pm to 3am
£2
The festive season may be over, but Misfits still has a few treats stored up its
proverbial sleeve. Fresh from the success of its first 3 months, the night is
now moving to a fortnightly residency every second Friday at Subway Cowgate.
Playing a mash of Indie/Electro/Punk
and Rock, the night provides a varied playlist to to an ecelectic community of
music lovers.
As much of a social as it is a club night, interactivity is positively
encouraged. The website (www.misfitsonline.co.uk) is growing at a steady speed
and now has a regular band of insomniacs manning the helm at all hours. Intended
as a central listings resource for all the indie/alt goings-on in Edinburgh,
members can request tracks in advance for the next Misfits date, mingle on the
forums, register as a regular for the nights they go to, and find others who go
along to
them.
The first Misfits in the new year is Friday 27th January and you can expect the
usual stupidly cheap drinks promos, cult screenings and soundtrack of your
favourite tunes. We'll also be introducing our 'drop it and pocket it' box -
bring a mix cd of your favourite tracks, drop it in the box, and take someone
elses away with you in return. If you like it then keep it, and if you don't you
can drop it on at the next date, or make yourself a nice coffee mat.

http://www.misfitsonline.co.uk
Misfits Online is a dedicated online portal for all things indie and
alt in Edinburgh. It aims to build a community out of clubbers and in
the process bring some cohesion to the fractured 'scenes'. In other
words, we want people to mingle.
