The Edinburgh Student Festival 2006 announces programme
The initial programme of the Edinburgh Student Festival, sponsored by Deloitte,
was announced today with over sixty student led events scheduled to take place.
The Edinburgh Student Festival will take place from Saturday 28th January to
Saturday 4th February 2006. 2006 will be the third year of the Festival.
The line up will include a film festival featuring films such as The Passion of
the Christ, Topsy Turvey, Hotel Rwanda, Bring It On and This is Spinal Tap,
Untapped Talent will attempt to Build A Band, there will be a debate between
the Palestine Solidarity Society and the Jewish Society, a student poker
tournament, an Apprentice Edinburgh final, a Bollywood taster, Greek Folk
Dancing, an opportunity to challenge the Edinburgh University Challenge team,
Tango night, a New York Night In theme night, an International Food Fair, a
drum and dance extravanganza, a German Society Masquerade Ball, a Capoeira
Winter Festival, a mosque exhibition, Chinese New Year Ball, a Tibetan Food
festival to celebrate the Tibetan New Year, Lo-5 People Theatre performance,
theatre workshops including a 24 hour play, a music society scratch
performance, Rukkus Charity Night and more.
The events, will take place in Teviot Row , Potterrow (in Bristo Square) and
fringe favourite the Pleasance with a series of club, music and comedy nights to
round off the programme.
The Student Festival co Co-Ordinator 2006 Pete Harris said, “ The Student
Festival has established itself as one of the interesting and diverse festivals
in
Edinburgh. It showcases the work of several student groups both to students
and the community at large. Each year the event grows in popularity and we
hope this year will be the best yet!”
The Edinburgh Student Festival was established in 2004 and events are put on
by student groups based at Edinburgh University and supported by national and
local companies.
