Press Information :: Press Night Monday 24 April
Causing controversy wherever it plays, the sensational Jerry Springer The Opera
is
the most talked about ground-breaking new musical ever written. Having won all
four
Best Musical Awards (Olivier, Evening Standard, Critic's Circle and What's On
Stage)
and receiving standing ovations wherever it is performed, this is without doubt
the
must-see musical theatre event.
The original show was a sell-out success at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in
2002
and was seen by Jerry Springer himself who gave it a standing ovation!
Based on the legendarily profane American TV talk show Jerry Springer The Opera
features white supremacists, jilted lovers and a vast array of trailer trash
that
makes this an explosive and audacious evening's entertainment.
The title role is played by Rolf Saxon whose many film credits include The Curse
of
the Pink Panther, Tomorrow Never Dies and Saving Private Ryan. He is also a well
known TV face having appeared in Birds of a Feather, Boon and Capital City.
Jerry Springer The Opera is co-written and composed by Richard Thomas and
co-written
and directed by Stewart Lee. Richard Thomas has previously written and produced
the
controversial opera Tourette's Diva and was musical director for both Frank
Skinner
and Harry Hill. Stewart Lee is best known as a stand-up comedian. He co-wrote
the
first appearances of Steve Coogan's Alan Partridge character and is a regular
writer
for the music section of The Sunday Times.
