2 :: Fish Fry @ Jazz Bar - Edinburgh
The Jazz Bar, 1a Chambers Street, Edinburgh
Listings for Fish Fry, Jazz Bar, Edinburgh.
PLEASE NOTE :: Saturdays at the Jazz Bar are often incorrectly
listed as free entry before 12. The Jazz Bar's own listings do
state that the early gig is free and the band play 9pm - 12am.
What actually happens is that although the band play until 12
we actually start charging at 11.30pm. Many thanks for your
understanding concerning this confusion.

Sat 1st July 2006 *FISH FRY 1ST BIRTHDAY PARTY*
On Stage: The Bamboos + DJ Erik d'Viking
After putting on over 52 roots conscious live bands, we have reason
to celebrate and blow all our cash on a ridiculously good guest band.
The Bamboos cover version of Tighten Up was released on Kay Dee by
Keb Darge and Kenny Dope Gonzales, this record became a firm
favourite at the Fish Fry. The band enhanced their reputation
touring the Australia and New Zealand as the backing band for
the Quantic Soul Orchestra and Alice Russell. They have just
released Step It Up, a single with Alice Russell and one of Tru
Thoughts' fastest ever selling debut albums of the same name.
The boys from Down Under promise a stunning 'mix tape' style
continuous show of heavy funk grooves.
"Killer" MR. SCRUFF
"The strongest debut album from a modern funk band we've heard"

Sat 8th July 2006
On Stage: Joe Acheson Quartet + DJs Erik d'Viking & Astroboy
Although we have been promoting them for ages, this is the second
performance at the Jazz Bar from the most exciting live band in
Edinburgh. Last time time they blew the doors off, this time they'll
steal the rubbish car stereo, subframe and leave us with nothing but
the seats and an empty gear box.
Sat 15th July 2006
On Stage: Sidewinder + DJs Erik d'Viking & Astroboy
8 months ago Alan Bryden's outfit performed a farewell gig at
London's Jazz Cafe. He then promptly took off to Brazil where
he was getting very busy in the favellas with his laptop and a
microphone. The stage is set for the second installment of a
residency where he will where we have asked him develop his
fresh material and take risks in front of our friendly crowd.
Last weekend he blew us away with his tight Brazilian house
and British funk groove, keeping everyone hungry for more by
refusing to play an encore. Discipline.

Sat 22nd July 2006
On Stage: Baby Elephants + DJ Astroboy
Funky ska, reggae and Afrocentric roots music from Toby Shippey
and his Salsa Celtica spin-off project.
Sat 29th July 2006
On Stage: Allan McKeown + DJs Erik d'Viking & Astroboy
Funk guitarist Allan leads a band of Glasgow's finest showcasing
new material and classic covers. Tight, heavy and loud, the man
never disappoints the dancefloor.
