blowout with Orkestra Del Sol and The Black Sea Gentlemen! Plus
a transcontinental broadcast and a very important announcement
made exclusively from our stage for Adelaide Fringe 2007!

“CRAZY FOR CABARET” PHOTO CALL WEDNESDAY 23rd AUGUST 12pm at
BONGO CLUB (HOLYROOD ROAD)

Cabaret shows join forces to reposition Cabaret as the Queen of
Entertainment at the Fringe and demand introduction of “Cabaret/
Variety”as an official Fringe category.

Betty Davis is leading a troop of cabaret performers to invite Fringe
goers across the city to choose cabaret as the ultimate form of
entertainment and to bring attention to Cabaret’s resurging popularity
at the Fringe and beyond.

Cabaret has been experiencing a resurgence across the globe as an
art form and entertainment niche, and there are more cabaret acts
than ever at this year’s Festival Fringe. However, cabaret is
currently not recognized by the Fringe as its own category in its
official programme, leaving fantastic shows to be lost among
“Comedy,” “Music,” or “Physical Theatre.”

In a historic display of cabaret camaraderie, performers and
promoters from three venues are joining together on one stage to
show their commitment to the spirit of the Fringe: original,
offbeat, daring entertainment. Shows from the Bongo Club, C Venues
and Pleasance Cabaret Bar are working together to promote Cabaret
as an original and exciting choice for a genuinely diverse and
entertaining Fringe experience.

Divas, can can dancers, brass bands, burlesque girls, circus freaks
and glamorous acts galore will unite on one stage to showcase their
singing, dancing, comedy, drama and range of unique blends of
excitement.

Among the troop will be Jimmy James, whose live voices show “Divas Dead
or Alive” is headlining at the Bongo Club at 9pm, Vaudeville Cabaret
Club performers (including compere Mikelangelo of The Black Sea Gentlemen),
whose four-star chaotic mix of circus, music, burlesque and comedy is
on from 11pm until 5am at the Bongo Club, Dusty Limits, whose shows
“Dusty Limits is Heartless” and “Midnight Carousel” are on at C Venues
at 21:50 and 00:00, as well as Too 2 Much Cabaret, which is on at the
Pleasance at 00:30.

ARTS NEWSFLASH :: Thurs 24th August, 11pm :: ADELAIDE FRINGE 2007
TO LAUNCH FROM VAUDEVILLE CABARET CLUB

The second biggest arts festival in the world will launch its
artist registration from Edinburgh's infamous Vaudeville Cabaret
Club on Thursday 24th August. Adelaide Fringe Director, Christie
Anthony, chose Vaudeville and The Bongo Club to launch the first
of Adelaide's annual events to promote links between the two cities.

On the Australian end, the event will be hosted at supermegafashion!
a multimedia live cabaret event created by the original founders
of The Bongo at their brand new arts venue, Higher Ground Inc.
In Edinburgh, its home will be The Vaudeville Cabaret Club,
an ongoing project showcasing circus, theatre and music from
across the globe.

In celebration of this astounding cross-continental cultural
event, The Vaudeville Cabaret Club will mark the launch with a
Gypsy Battle featuring Australian legends Mikelangelo & The Black
Sea Gentlemen and Edinburgh rogues Orkestra Del Sol in a collision
of Balkan beats. These five-star acts will play together following
the announcement, which will be broadcast live to Australia at the
close of the Vaudeville show.

Phyllis Martin, producer of Vaudeville commented, "Having worked at
Adelaide and Edinburgh Fringes, I know they bring together the best
entertainment in the world, something Vaudeville and The Bongo Club
do in microcosm. We feel very privileged to take part in this
fantastic moment, though we might have to extend the stage to fit
all the musicians on!"

The launch will round off a fantastic closing week for the cabaret,
which is also providing opening acts for New York Brechtian punk
artistes The Dresden Dolls on Wednesday 23rd. The last week's shows
(Sun-Thur, 11pm-5am, The Bongo Club) will be playing host to a stellar
range of acts including the No Fit State Circus Band, Wilson Dixon,
Holly Penfield, Mazaika, Pluck, Freaks In A Box and That 1 Guy!
