Nightnews-media XTRA :: goNorth Announces Dates & Rock Ness Link Up -
Scotland

---

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
GO NORTH LINKS UP WITH ROCK NESS

8 February 2007

Scotland's leading showcase event, goNorth, will decamp to Inverness
this year as part of the Highland Year of Culture. The two days of
free gigs, seminars and advice sessions will take place on June 7 & 8.
And organisers are pledging to retain the unique atmosphere the
festival has boasted in Aberdeen in previous years.

"Our aim is to recreate the incredible vibe of Aberdeen's Belmont
Street, around Inverness' Church Street," explains organiser Shaun
Arnold. "It's important that people are still able to pop in and out
venues and see as many bands as possible."

goNorth's move to the Highland capital, will also allow closer
collaboration with the Rock Ness festival taking place on June 9 & 10.
Its promoter, who is also goNorth's booker, Robert Hicks, believes
that hosting the two events over four days will provide a valuable
boost to the local music scene.

"It really shines a spotlight on the Highlands," he says" "We are
showing the whole musical spectrum, with the stars of tomorrow playing
on the two days and the stars of today the following two.,"

The application process for goNorth opened on January 31, with acts
being offered the opportunity to apply online via Sonic Bids. Postal
applications will be accepted from February 9.

NOTE TO EDITORS
goNorth was launched in 2002 to bring the British music industry to
the North of Scotland and provide a platform for acts from the
Highlands & Islands and the Aberdeen area. In addition to dozens of
free gigs taking place in venues along Belmont Street, the two-day
event also features seminars, receptions and label presentations.
goNorth is funded by Highlands & Islands Enterprise, PRS, and Cultural
Enterprise. Acts which have performed at the festival include Cosmic
Rough Riders, The Cinematics, Croft Number 5, My Latest Novel and the
Fence Collective, including King Creosote.
