Sat 10th March 2007 - NB have Orange Alert cancelled
On Stage: Diwan + DJ Astroboy
Since getting his first break with Little Milton, Chicago-based
saxophonist and leader Pete Carney has worked with the New World
Symphony, Tito Puente, Louie Bellson, Tyrone Davis, Ko Ko Taylor,
Arturo Sandoval and has directed the horn section for Grammy winner
Kirk Franklin. He's a regular collaborator with Erik Truffaz and is
politically very active. Both of these latter influences his music
edgy and worthwhile investing time in. With his energetic Orange
Alert project, he draws on hip hop, house and nu soul, sampling
everything from ringing telephones to Arabic singing to create topical
acid jazz with big, dancefloor-friendly grooves. We were lucky to
pick up this date band the day after they play Aberdeen Jazz Festival.

instruments like violins, piano and bongos" Daily Record

Sat 14th April 2007
On Stage: Mosa Funk Club + DJs Erik d'Viking & Astroboy
They are clearly influnced by acts such as Miss Dynamite and Goldie
Lookin Chain (both of who they happen to have shared stages with).
Combining urban chic, good humour with dancefloor funk, they have been
one of the Fish Fry's favourite acts of 2006 and we are proud to
welcome them back.

DJ QUANTIC (TRU THOUGHTS)
Quantic should need no introduction to anyone who's ever been to
Trouble, so prominently has his music and presence featured over the
years, whether as a DJ or live performer with his Soul Orchestra and
Alice Russell or, more recently, soul jazz legend Spanky Wilson. His
music espouses the rarest of grooves, taking elements of classic funk,
soul, hip hop and dance floor jazz and fusing them with motifs from
Africa, South and Central America, be it Nigerian Afrobeat, Puerto
Rican swing, Cuban or otherwise. We welcome him once again to let his
voodoo rhythms loose on the `floor. Expect a roadblock. [Pic of DJ
Quantic for anyone who wants to run an image before his guest spot on
Thursday 5th April. Please let me know, as it's about 3Mb...

Blurb: A BASEMENT BOOGIE RELAUNCH
Following its unexpected demise at the Hudson, due to circumstances
beyond our control, Trouble's mid-weekly frenzy, A Basement Boogie, is
set to re-ignite Thursday nights in the capital when it re-launches at
the brand-spanking-new Berlin – the West End club owned by notorious
Edinburgh bon viveur and club scene stalwart Gerry Ritchie – on
Thursday March 22nd. Conceived as an opportunity to give Trouble DJs
Hobbes & Erik d'Viking a weekly club residency, A Basement Boogie
espouses the same esoteric and eclectic musical ethos to be
experienced at their flagship Trouble monthly nights at Cabaret
Voltaire.

BERLIN – now featuring brand new, third room
Following a full re-fit to its interior, including a brand new
extension at the back of the club which makes way for a third room
with dance floor, Berlin promises to offer something entirely new to
Edinburgh nightlife and party people – namely more choice, with the
emphasis on high quality entertainment across the board.

cheers,

BLURB

DJ KWAME
South London soul brother via Derry, Northern Ireland, DJ Kwame has
been at the forefront of his area's forward-thinking club scene for
the last seven years. His Bounce night at Londonderry's Sandinos
café/bar and club has been drawing crowds of four hundred people every
Saturday since Sandinos annexed the neighbouring building and
quadrupled its capacity in 2005. Kwame and Bounce share the same love
of a good groove and all things soulful, funky and
dance-floor-destroying that we espouse at Trouble. Listen to a DJ mix
by him here for ref:

BABYHEAD
One of the UK's fastest growing independent acts, Babyhead has
definitely got something special going on. But it can be difficult on
occasion to pin down exactly what that is. It's not just the
combination of the horn section with the DJ's turntable dexterity that
grabs the crowd's attention. It's not simply the infectious nature of
the heavy bass and ska chops over the hip-hop backbeat that gets
people moving. Nor is it just the MC's biting lyricism, albeit
delivered with unwavering tenacity, which holds people's attention
until the encore. But the magical, intangible quality that Babyhead
has by the bucket-load can be summed up in one, key word: energy.

Babyhead's explosive energy, combined with their unique sound,
song-writing dexterity and accomplished showmanship, has snagged the
ears of many an industry insider, with Roni Size, Michael Franti,
Ozomatli and Lamb all now joining the ranks of the group's constantly
swelling fan-base.

Babyhead are touring to promote debut album Babyboom Town (Cookie
Cutter), which fuses ska, hip hop, blazing brass, heavy bass and
sardonic wit and was produced by Bunny Ellingham, who boasts work with
Goldfrapp, New order and KT tunstall on his CV.

`A history of ska and reaggae on one record' – Phil Jupitus, BBC Radio 6
`Babyhead are more than a band, they're a fucking movement!' Mickey P,
Café Du Paris. Watch stunning live show video here:

BACK ROOM: NEIL FERRIS
Neil is a former stalwart of Edinburgh's house scene through his own
Deep Sensation night at Berlin and Gadges At Work 4 deck sessions with
Harvey at Ego. Having recently re-located to Aberdeen, he continues to
push the feeling via his Level One Records parities with Kris Keegan
(Glasgow), On Hubert Street (Frodsham, England) and For The Love Of
The Music sessions with Billy Davidson (Aberdeen).

NICK YUILL
Long-term supporter and friend of Trouble through his own Solescience
house night, which takes place once a month at Cabaret Voltaire and
has played host to the Trouble DJs on many occasions. We welcome Nick
to our back room at last to do his thing alongside Neil Ferris.

Expect the hottest underground joints alongside `nuff classics.
