:: Press Blurb - This exhibition is of new work by Emily Ritchie, it revolves
around
drawing, but also utilises print, installation and film. The drawings are
primarily
figurative, and there is often a dark humour and ugliness present. Starting with
snapshot photography and found images, separate drawings are made, which are
then
layered up into increasingly complicated compositions. The effect is like a film
still where the plot and character relationships are unknown.
There is an importance placed on use of empty space balanced against decisive
structure or line, the layering up of different materials and visual imagery,
and
the implication of narrative within the work.
Previous exhibitions and other work by Emily Ritchie includes ::
Surprise, at Hyperground, Edinburgh 2006
In Motion, at 69 King Street, London 2006
Projection in The Goulag Beat, Ego, Edinburgh 2006
Spinach, at The Arches, Glasgow 2006
All my Rowdy Friends are Dead, a music video for St Jude's Infirmary 2006
Ritch at Jie's flat, Beijing 2006
Education and Training :: Emily Ritchie graduated from Edinburgh College of Art
in
2005 with a BA (Hons) in Drawing and Painting. This degree included an Erasmus
exchange to Athens. Since then she has become a member of Edinburgh Printmakers
and
participated in all aspects of putting together exhibitions, group and solo.
:: On Tuesday the band, 'The Leg,' will perform 'Policehorseshop' a Tina Turner
Tribute
at 7.30pm + Projection also by Emily Ritchie
The Leg :: They make primal experimental anti-songs and are known as, "sonic
alchemists with pop magic dancing from their fingertips," say NME. They will be
performing new music for the first time at this event.
