On Stage: Found + DJ Erik D'Viking
Found combine a delicate mix of influences from electronica, folk and garage
rock.
Since recording a radio session in the legendary Beatles Studio at Abbey Road,
appearing on BBC Scotland’s The Music Show, MTV Europe have shown the video for
their debut single. They describe their music as forward-thinking pop and have
been
compared to The Beta Band, Tortoise and Tom Waits. It may have guitars and its
certainly got soul.
"Scotland's strangest new band" The Scotsman

Sat 22nd Sept 2007
On Stage: King Kong Crew + DJ Astroboy
One of the funkiest live bands in Sweden, King Kong Crew are a 5 piece with a
sound
like no others - imagine D'Angelo fronting Bootsy Collins' band! It is delicate
urban soul with a psychedelic edge. King Kong Crew have been preaching their
Monkey
Movement in Sweden and abroad, they make regular appearances in top venues all
over
the UK and are regulars on the Stockholm live scene. They have one mission: To
save
our nation from the sterilization of civilisation.

Sat 29th Sept 2007
On Stage: The Joy Foundation + DJ Erik D'Viking
This 7-piece Edinburgh based smooth Latin, soul, jazz and funk band make their
Jazz
Bar debut. With live percussion, horns and a rhythm section all being brought
together by their stunning female vocalist Lady Miss Emerald we expect this act
to
go down very well. Their demos bring together influences from new artists such
as
Nicola Conte and 4 Hero with classic examples such as Marvin Gaye and Prince.

Sat 6th Oct 2007
On Stage: Das Contras + DJ Erik D'Viking
Following a recent support slot for Terry Callier at the Jazz Cafe this band are
on
fire.
"Like an acoustic Groove Armada, Das Contras like their brass and breezy good
times
tunes. While Groove Armada stick on some beats to modernise the sound Das
Contras
keep it plugged out and use instruments like violins, piano and bongos" Daily
Record

Sat 13th Oct 2007
On Stage: Mosa Funk Club
They are clearly influenced by acts such as Miss Dynamite and Goldie Lookin
Chain
(both of who they happen to have shared stages with). Combining urban chic,
good
humour with dancefloor funk, they have been one of the Fish Fry's favourite acts
over the last year.

Sat 20th Oct 2007
On Stage: Kate Rogers Band
Following her celebrated performances with label mates Aim and Rae & Christian,
Kate
has embraced the instrumentation and ambience of her earliest influences -
Roots,
blues and North American folk flavours feature in a sophisticated sound.
“What a record. An astonishing debut” Independent on Sunday
“Flecked with blues, roots, jazz and country. Outstanding.” The Times
“With shifting instrumentation - from simple pianos to Arabian-infected beats –
reflecting her changing moods, the likes of the rousing title track suggests she
won't be fading into the crowd” Q
http://www.katerogers.net / http://www.myspace.com/katerogersband

Sat 27th Oct 2007
On Stage: Digital Jones
This act combine jazz, funk, electro, broken beat, soul and rock in a heady
cocktail, featuring 'Prince' Phil McBride (bass), Jack Nissan (keys) and the
exuberant Nikki Kent (vox). Not only does Nikki have one serious set of lungs
on
her, she's also, to quote Dimitri From Paris, 'a very stylish girl' with an
effervescent personality and a no-shrinking-violet performance mentality to
boot...
Its been over a year since they last appeared at the Jazz Bar so there is a
whole
heap on new material to check out.

#3 - Trouble's Autumn programme - Edinburgh

Trouble's Autumn programme. We've confirmed the bills for almost all six of the
dates we're promoting this season and i've included full details for our October
5th
night with a live PA from Kathy Diamond.

Please note these dates do NOT all take place at Cabaret Voltaire. Our flagship
Trouble Friday night continues to run on the first Friday of every month at the
Cab,
but our new quarterly Dfrnt Trouble night is at The Caves (also Fridays). We're
also
presenting two extra live shows, one of which (with Fingathing and Underling) is
at
the Bongo Club and an EARLY show, while the other (with Ben Westbeech) is a LATE
club gig at the Jazz Bar.

Hope this is all clear. Please get in touch for any more info and/or for pix
of/interviews with Kathy Diamond. email Hobbes hobbes@...

TROUBLE Dates

FRI 5TH OCTOBER: LADIES’ NIGHT
KATHY DIAMOND (LIVE PA)
CLARE F.I.
DAVA (LIVE PERCUSSION)
TROUBLE DJs & MC RATTY B

We hate testosterone-fuelled clubs packed with lads and pride ourselves on
playing
tunes that the girls want to dance to first and foremost, so we present the
first
Trouble Ladies’ Night of the new season, after our last ladies’ night,
mid-Festival
with soulful house monthly 33/45, went off so sweetly (four hundred and twenty
people through the door is a rare treat in small clubs these days for something
akin
to a local residents’ night, even if it did happen with two clubs banding
together
as one). Thus, we welcome the fairer sex in for half the price again, while
doffing
our caps to two very talented ladies from the local and national club scene.

Earlier this year, Sheffield’s Kathy Diamond released a great club record, Miss
Diamond To You (Permanent Vacation), produced by mad genius Maurice Fulton (DFA,
Warp, Tirk, Output, Nuphonic), whose low-slung remix of Hot Chip’s 2006 instant
classic Over And Over was equally deliciously funky. Here Fulton’s sublime
modern
production fuses electro, disco and a barrel-load of soul. A bit of an
underground
hit this year, Kathy Diamond is now threatening to become something of a
crossover
star. Watch this space.

"A disco album like there hasn't been one for a long time ... High heels,
lipgloss,
hand claps, eye glitter and gin 'n' tonic... 'Miss Diamond To You' is setting
new
standards." (Groove Magazine)

Best known in underground music circles across the UK for the now-defunct Casio
Ho
Doon online radio show she produced and presented from a flat in sunny Leith,
Eclairfifi (Dblspk, Iridium) aka Clair FI, is easily one of our favourite female
DJs
in Scotland. Having inherited her dad’s awesome record collection and impeccable
taste in music, she likes to embellish it with a penchant for all things
electronic,
most of all some gloriously camp Italo disco.

11pm - 3am, £6/5 concs. Ladies: £3 only.

KATHY DIAMOND – more info:

Miss Diamond’s album sales are nicely reflecting the fact that “Miss Diamond
To You” has been one of the records of the year so far. And that’s a FACT.
Check this months Xlr8r magazine for a great little piece on Kathy, her deepest
Disco secrets and a bit about Mr Fulton himself. Kathy has been busy this month
performing an extra special set with Soft Rocks at the Big Chill. She's also
been
singing with the lads in the studio and she’s just been recording for man about
town
