on

boot...
Its been over a year since they last appeared at the Jazz Bar so there is a

Sat 3rd Nov 2007
On Stage: Jneiro Jarel, Jawwaad & DJ Jamad (Shape Of Broad Minds, USA)?+ DJs
Erik
d'Viking & Astroboy

Jimi Hendrix-esque musical adventurer Jneiro Jarel presents his hip-hop A Team,
Shape of Broad Minds. Continuing the journey started with their Blue Experience
EP,
which features fabled emcee MF Doom, their Craft Of The Lost Art debut album is
a
scenic road trip to the outer boarders of hip-hop territory and beyond. The
voyage
brings to mind the travels of fellow pioneers Tribe Called Quest, Herbie
Hancock,
Madlib, De La Soul and the late great J Dilla, amongst others, and forms an
essential piece of summertime listening for fans of all of the above and wide
winded
music lovers everywhere.

Jneiro Jarels Shape Of Broad Minds supergroup comprises four other equally
forward-thinking members. Cutting straight to the core of the crew we find
right-hand man, fellow vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Jawwaad. This founding
pair first met back in 94 during Jarels Houston dwelling days and whilst Jawwaad
was
just a kid.

Their similarly wide-minded cohorts are Roque Wun, Panama Black and Dr Who Dat
Roque
Wun is the free spirited psychedelic singer, and major creative element of the
group
a big fan of 80s New Wave, free jazz and; anything that just wigs out! Roc has
recently started work on a parallel project with Jarel and Khujo of Goodie Mob
[the
group that gave the world solo and Gnarls Barkley star Cee-Lo]. Shape Of Broad
Minds? Atlanta representative Panama Black is a highly driven, straight-up rap
animal, and a man whos all about staying on top of his game.

The five piece puzzle is completed with the addition of Dr Who Dat, a highly
skilled
producer who released the lush instrumental Beat Journey LP last year a record
described as jam packed with amazing soulful beats [by Dazed & Confused] and the
laid back hip-hop album of the year [in Mixmag]. The good doctor is certainly
the
most mysterious and introverted member of the group, but when leading man Jneiro
is
having trouble in the studio the doctor is known to sneak in, administer some
musical medicine, and cure all ills.

Lyricist and producer Jneiro Jarel began life in the same borough that gave rise
to
hip-hop: Brooklyn, NYC. With his mother in the Army early years were spent
moving
around the US with stops and stays in several cities and states coming before a
prolonged stint in Houston - then in 1998, on the advice of Rich Medina, Jarel
moved
to Philly and has been calling the city home ever since.? Having previously
worked
with Jazzanova, Count Bass D, and King Britt, as well as opening live shows for
Special Ed, Mobb Deep and The Pharcyde; 2005 saw Jarel unveil his first solo
album
project Three Piece Puzzle. As well as producing the whole record, he also took
the
microphone proving his skills as a super-nice rapper too.

Craft Of The Lost Art?s multifarious highlights range from the banging beats and
rhymes of Lets Go [ft MF DOOM], BuddaFly Away and Beast From Da East; to the
mellower lushness of Changes, Electric Blue and OPR8TR; and the more
experimental
jazz based stylings of opener Gorilla Mash, It Lives On [Ft Count Bass D] and
They
Don?t Know [ft Stacy Epps]. Shape Of Broad Minds full mind-expanding Craft Of
The
Lost Art debut will be released 3rd September and is preceded by the Blue
Experience
EP; both of which are brought to you via Lex Records.

"...creamy Philly nu-soul, flicker with blissed-out, psychedelic hip hop and tap
into jazz-breaks minimalism or conscious, melodic electronica.? In other words,
cool
all over" - Time Out

"...so good it could almost be a dream union of Digable Planets, Herbie Hancock
and
Madlib" DJ Magazine

"Jimi Hendrix-esque musical adventurer Jneiro Jarel presents his hip hop A-Team"
Plan B Magazine

"Sitting alongside MF Doom, Ghostface Killah and, er, Fog on the ultra-hip Lex
Records Jneiro Jarel's posse are the last psychotropic outpost of challenging US
rap... get on this before The Guardian toss-pots ruin it by telling
trustafarians
about them"NME

:: NEIL LANDSTRUMM – BIOG - A stalwart of the UK electronic music scene since
1994,
Neil Landstrumm has released work on many of the most recognised labels.
Starting
with Peace Frog, shifting gears to Berlin’s Tresor Records he then upped the
bass-game onto arguably the UK’s most important electronic label of the moment,
Planet Mu. Neil Landstrumm is an artist who always seems to be at the spearhead
of
experimental, dancehall low frequency electronics. After a lengthy sabbatical in
New
York, the native Scot is now settled back in Edinburgh where he continues to
make
music and operate his label project, Scandinavia. Neil has toured relentlessly
worldwide, supporting each year's releases with uncompromising live shows using
a
plethora of sound hardware. Never an artist to rest on his laurels and churn out
the
same old, he has built a career on being unpredictable and open to new
perspectives
from which to hone his sound. A pioneer of new styles within techno, often
copied
and imitated, Landstrumm has a strong pedigree within the scene. Unaligned to
any
one genre, upfront and heavy, he makes music for all-comers to the rave.
Landstrumm
steers his way through 2007 with refreshing abandon and a new LP due late Spring
on
Planet Mu records called Restaurant of Assassins.

With the heaviest subs this side of Chapeltown, Landstrumm seeks new lows with
Restaurant of Assasins, bringing together classic UK techno vibes and modern
dubstep
with a refreshed rave sensibility. Neil hijacks dubstep structure and its
on-the-three’s approach but adapts it to his signature sound so identifiable
from
the decade’s previous productions. Undeniably proud of the UK’s heritage in
electronic music and clearly passionate about the influences in his musical
output,
Landstrumm has a talent for bringing it all together in unusual and creative
packages. Chasing the Great Northern Raves from the Happy Mondays and Yorkshire
Bass
N Bleep scene, to contemporary dubstep you can follow Landstrumms’ vision of the
ravestep sound in 2007 with Restaurant of Assassins – an unsettling cartel of
badman
and plain wrong-uns….

PRESS RELEASE :: BFS invites you to celebrate Samhuinn

The night when the veil between the worlds grows thinner, where spirits might
touch
the souls of the living. A night to reflect on the year gone by, and to look
forward
to the one to come. We invite you to celebrate Samhuinn, the Celtic New Year,
in
the heart of Edinburgh . So! Come join the Oak King for the carnival of summer’s
last dance, accompanied by the vibrant last beats of the summer musicians, the
ethereal dance of summer nymphs and sylphs, fire performers and jesters. Shudder
before winter’s fury, as relentless drummers, hunters, and wolves sweep up the
last
of summer’s glory before the force of the Holly King.

Background to Samhuinn :: Samhuinn (pr. ‘Sa-wain’) was for ancient Celts the
time of
the year when cattle were brought in from high summer pastures to lowland
fields.
This was the major turning point in the year, a time of preparation after
harvest
for the long winter ahead. In Scotland a community would come together indoors,
and
with the veil at its thinnest this was a time for divining, for making contact
with
those who had left the earthly realm in the year just passed, and also for
stories
and games, for mischievous spirits to have some fun. One can easily see how the
modern day festival Hallowe’en, All Hallows’ Eve, has its roots in Samhuinn.

Samhuinn is also the time when the rising of the Seven Sisters (Pleiades)
proclaims
the triumph of darkness over light. Many ancient cultures celebrated this
changeover
time from the old cycle to the new. It is believed that peoples as diverse as
the
Polynesians, ancient Egyptians and Greeks looked to the dawn sky for the rising
of
Pleiades to mark the end of the old year, and so Samhuinn is a chance to connect
with cultures around the world in marking the turn of the year’s cycle.

Beltane Fire Society :: From small beginnings Beltane Fire Society’s events have
gradually gained international renown, and we can now justifiably claim to be a
major contributor to Edinburgh ’s festival calendar. The 2007 Beltane Fire
Festival
was believed to add some £700,000 to the Scottish economy, yet we do not receive
any
public funding, and remain a not-for-profit organisation. We are managed by a
voluntary committee, and our performers, now numbering some 300, are all
volunteers,
who give a substantial amount of time to, and on the whole self-fund, their
rehearsals, costumes and props. Our aims include the promotion of community
development and cohesion as well encouraging public awareness of Celtic seasonal
festivals.

Information for Spectators: Come dressed warmly – this is the start of Winter! -
but
also be creative: by wearing Samhuinn-inspired masks, cloaks or even costumes
you
may survive better than the ‘normal’ folk.

This is not a ticketed event, and there is no set charge to watch Samhuinn 2007.
However we do ask for donations, which will be collected by costumed BFS
members; we
must stress that this is through necessity rather than choice.

From Parliament Square revellers will be invited to journey with us to the Bongo
Club to dance the night away.
