Edinburgh Student Festival back and bigger than ever for its fifth year
The Edinburgh Student Festival, running from the 28 January to 2 February
2008 is a week packed full of events run by the Students' Association and
student-run societies for students and the Edinburgh community as a whole.
The week long celebration brings together everything that is great about
being a student at Edinburgh and celebrates it as well as letting people
know that life at University goes well beyond the books.
Now in its fifth year promises to be a spectacular series of events, with
more going on than ever and will feature Live Music, Comedy, Theatre, Dance, Gaming, Outdoor and Film events.
Edinburgh Student Festival Director and Edinburgh University Students'
Association, Vice President Societies and Activities, Gordon Aikman said:
"Being at University is about so much more than getting a degree or some
letters after your name, it's about the whole package - experiencing student
life - and the Student Festival is the ultimate celebration of this. The
Student Festival gives students at the University of Edinburgh and
universities and colleges from across the city the opportunity to get
involved in student societies and experience something different. "
Gordon continues:
"The internationally renowned summer Festival attracts performers and
audiences from all over the world, however, so many students miss this great celebration as they are across the other side of the world or often workingto keep themselves afloat in the coming year. The Student Festival fills this void by giving the students of Edinburgh a festival week of their own."
This year's highlights include a debate hosted by the Young Green's: 'Last
Chance to Stop Climate Change' with guest speaker Patrick Harvie MSP.
TheSwing Dance and Create Society are coming together to put on 'Victory' a 1940s style tea dance, while the German Society are putting on 'Bodacious Bierhalle' a thigh-slapping beer festival complete were German sausages and a full traditional 'Oompa band'.
