Subject: Edinburgh Festival Fringe Bulletin 10

Fringe 2009: 7-31 August

July is here, just under 5 weeks to go…

In this bulletin you will find information on:

    *    How to Promote Your Show
    *    Meet the Media
    *    Half-Price Hut
    *    Call out for International Performers
    *    Accessible shows
    *    Accommodation
    *    Competition

You can also read this bulletin and all previous ones here.

How to Promote Your Show
You can download the Fringe Guide to Selling Your Show here and members of the Press team are also available to give advice from now until the end of the festival. You can contact them on press@... To get you started, here are some of the opportunities that are available.

Perform on the High Street
Want to perform on the most famous street in Scotland in August? The Fringe High Street Event supported by RBS takes place on a closed section of the Royal Mile in the centre of Edinburgh. It attracts thousands of festival goers every day with a colourful mixture of street performers, buskers, living statues, balloon artists and Fringe Performers. We want your show to be part of the Entertainment! We have 3 stages available for Fringe performers to promote their show. If you would like to apply or get more information about the High Street stages for Fringe performers, please download the form here.

Advertise with the Fringe Society
The Edinburgh Festival Fringe provides a wide range of official print, online and mobile advertising opportunities to help you sell your show. For full details, please click here or e-mail bernadette@....

Stories to tell

Do you or someone in your company have an interesting Fringe story to share? Every year Fringe performers overcome impossible odds, find themselves in ridiculous situations or make the ultimate sacrifice for their art. If so, we want to hear from you. Share your stories or take heart from the inspirational stories of others. Drop an email to editor@... to find out more.

Jenners
Edinburgh's department store Jenners is offering performers an opportunity to perform in its iconic Grand Hall throughout the festival. Jenners grand hall is overlooked by two balcony levels, offering the public a viewing gallery for performances.
This unique performance environment is available for acts of up to 10
people at 11am and 4pm Monday to Friday. Acts must last no longer than
1hr.
Any interested performers should contact Alan Thomlinson, Deputy Store
Manager, by email at athomlinson@....

Festival Cavalcade
The 2009 Cavalcade will take place on Sunday 9th August and thousands of people will gather at the end of the parade in Holyrood Park. Fringe performers are welcome to come along in costume to leaflet and perform informally to the crowd between 12noon and 4pm.  Fringe Floats can still enter the Cavalcade itself and the closing date is Friday 10th July.  Please note that the Cavalcade is not run by the Fringe Society but by an independent organisation - more information is available at www.edinburghcavalcade.com

Meet The Media
We will be hosting an opening event for participants to Meet the Media face to face. It will be a great chance to sell your show to the people covering the festival and also to meet other shows. Meet the Media will be held on Saturday 8th August from 2.00pm to 5.00pm at Fringe Central and you can turn up any time between those hours. We anticipate that the event will be busy so we ask that only 2 people per show or venue come along and please be aware that there may be queues to speak to the media. Already confirmed for the event are ThreeWeeks, Fest, BBC, Reuters and the Edinburgh Evening News and we are hoping to have media photographers as well.

The Fringe Society is committed to offering services to enhance your Fringe experience and so will be hosting Meet the Media this year rather than the Opening Party. The opening party was traditionally designed to introduce press to participants so this is a chance to get back to the original format and provide a structured event which maximises the use of your time.

Half-Price Hut
We are quietly confident that the Half-Price Hut will be operating this year on The Mound (subject to planning approval) and will sell tickets for shows performing that same day at half price. Details of how to include your tickets in the half-price hut will be sent round nearer the time.

International Performers
If you are not a UK citizen and are coming to the Fringe, please make sure you are aware of any entry requirements and that you have submitted a FEU form to the Inland Revenue. Specific advice for International performers is available here.

The Fringe Office has been approached by international consulates and organisations in Edinburgh that would like to hear from participants and companies from certain countries. If you send the relevant organisation an e-mail directly they can let you know of any events they are running and any other ways they can support your show.

If you are Fringe participant from Germany, please contact Saskia Smellie at German Consulate General on saskia.smellie@...

If you are a Fringe participant from Italy, please contact the Events Team at the Italian Cultural Institute in Edinburgh on eventi.iicedimbubrgo@...

If you are a Fringe participant from Russia or neighbouring countries please contact Jenny Carr at the Scotland-Russia Forum on jenny@...

If you are a Fringe participant from Korea, please contact Hye-jung Jeon at the Korean Cultural Centre UK on hyejung.jeon@...

Accessible Shows
If you are having any captioned, audio-described, or sign language interpreted performances, please e-mail the details to barry@... so he can spread the word.

Accommodation
Have you organised your accommodation yet? If you go to the performers area of the website you will find an Accommodation listings and search section here which includes many places which are still available. You may also want to check the Accommodation section of the message board.

Competition
There's a bumper prize in this bulletin's competition - 5 pairs of tickets for the EH1 Music Festival headlined by Carl Cox, Brands, Orbital, Colours V Godskitchen, Streetrave, Hacienda, Renaissance, Eurodance, Ministry of Sound, Kiddstock and Hed Kandi.

Each pair of tickets is worth £99.00 and will give you 18 hour access to the event at The Royal Highland Showground at Ingliston from noon on 15th August.

Question?
Which Benjamin Button actress also appeared in the video for the Orbital release 'The Box'?

Please e-mail your answer to fringecentral@.... The winners will be selected at random and announced in the next bulletin.

In the last bulletin we asked:

How many steps do you have to climb to get to the top of the Scott Monument?

A: 287

And the winner is… Dani Doughty from Ginger Tom Theatre Company who are performing Rapture in The Spaces @ Royal College of Surgeons.
