Hello people,


Beltane Fire Society's AGM will take place at 1100 on Saturday 14th
February. The venue is Room 40a Upper in the Edinburgh University Students
Association building at the Pleasance. The Chill Out Society has quite
kindly agreed to host our AGM so, not only a big thanks to them, but
please note when asking for directions it is booked under the Chill Out
Society not Beltane.


For those who don't know the AGM is when Beltane Fire Society's committee
reports on the activities of the past 12 months and it is when the new
committee for the forthcoming year is elected. It is also importantly an
opportunity for members to ask questions of the committee.


All members are welcome to attend and to vote (to be a member, you must
have taken part in Beltane or Samhuinn during 2008).


Please note this is NOT the Beltane Open Meeting, i.e. the big volunteers
meeting, which is scheduled to take place on Sunday 22nd February.


If you would like to stand for a committee post, please email
scribe@... by 5PM on Friday 6th February. This is tomorrow by the
way! Any applications received after this date shouldn't really be
considered at the meeting according to the Beltane Fire Society's Articles
of Association.



Applications should include the following:



·        Name

·        Full Address

·        Details of your involvement in Beltane or Samhuinn during 2008

·        Details of any other involvement in Beltane Fire Society

·        Your vision for the role (this can be brief – voting won't be
based on your ability to write long tracts !)



There are currently six committee posts. One of the existing post-holders
plan to stand again however this doesn't prevent you standing against them
if you feel strongly that you could do a better job.



The posts are listed below; hopefully their titles are self-explanatory…



Posts becoming vacant:



·        Chairperson – please ask the outgoing post-holder, Jon Clarke,
if you would like more details about the role (chair@...)

·        Secretary – please ask the outgoing post-holder, Ben Halliwell,
if you would like more details about the role (scribe@...)

·        Fundraising Officer (new position) – please ask the Finance
Officer, Alison Rowan, if you would like more details about the role
(finance@...)

·        Finance Officer – please ask the outoging post-holder, Alison
Rowan, if you would like more details about the role (finance@...)

·        Press Officer – please ask the outgoing post-holder, Robyn
Hambrook, if you would like more details about the role
(press@...)


Posts where existing post-holders are planning to stand for another term
in office:

·        Quartermaster (incorporating the previous role of Health &
Safety) – Alan Howse



Note that becoming a member of the committee also means becoming a
Director of Beltane Fire Society (Company Limited by Guarantee) and a
Trustee of Beltane Fire Society (Charity Registered in Scotland). Please
email Jon Clarke (chair@...) if you would like to know more about
the implications of becoming a Director / Trustee (don't worry, it isn't
difficult or scary); please note that if you have previously been
disqualified from becoming a Director or Trustee of another organisation,
this may prevent you from taking a committee post.

Fundraising Officer - Sandi Hunter

Finance Officer - Matthew Stanhope

Press Officer - None yet!
