Last night I had the plesaure of attending Texas Slim's CD release party at the Hole in the Wall, and talk about a PARTY!!! The place was jammed packed when I got there at 8:30 and they just kept coming. Even the backyard and patio areas were full.
This show had to be one of the best gritty blues, rocking blues and funk blues I have ever seen. The crowd could not get enough.
Slim has a new band THE LOVE MACHINE with Joey Love and I apologize as I forget the drummer and bass players name. For a new band they were tight as hell.
The show opened with the Love Machine as a trio doing about 3 or 4 songs. After that Slim took the stage and the blasted right into the first three songs off the new cd, I HAVE ARRIVED. Talk about an eargasmic medely DAMN!!
I liked the white screen behind them with 60's style lava lamp images projected that speed up as the music progresses. Kind of reminded me of amebos (I know spelt wrong) in 6th grade science
You could tell the band was having a great time as they were jumping and dancing around the stage and for those of you who know the Hole that stage is mighty small. As crowded as it was Slim took to the floor on a couple of songs putting a lot of guitar player wannabe (meant as a GOOD term) in total awe. I must admit I too was in total awe of his playing and the things he would do with those 6 strings!
My favorite song of the night off the CD is a tribute to 9-11 called NYC PRIDE it is a funky little number that not only brings about the American Pride thing but also helps one to have fun or as the US has been asked to do, get back to normal.
Another favorite song of mine is COWTOWN RAIN DANCE which I am guessing was written in "honor" of the deluge of 95. Talk about bringing back memories (although I was in Dallas at the time).
There are no "slack tracks" on this CD at all and there were no slack tunes played last night. It was non-stop dancing, drinking, in your face blues and fun!!
Next time he is in the area you MUST go check out this show you will be glad you did!!
NTBers in attendence: Me, Marcia, Swag. Spike, Alan W, Don O, Scott, Fl. Dan, Craig, Spoonman (it was wonderful getting to know you and I will work on the fork thing).
