Come support Calliope's new series: Calliope at The Rex,
presenting fun up-and-coming folk acts in a relaxed atmosphere.
A true "rock 'n roll string band," The Mammals play an infectious
mix of old school folk mixed with punkishly-delivered
neo-traditional tunes.
Composed of Michael Merenda, Tao Rodriguez Seeger (grandson
of the legendary Pete Seeger), and Ruth Ungar (daughter
of Grammy Award-winning fiddler/composer Jay Ungar),
The Mammals are folk music heirs apparent. They are joined by Chris Merenda
(drums
and percussion), and Pierce Woodward (bass).
The Washington Post says, "The Mammals don't suffer from multiple genre
syndrome,
they celebrate it, as if gleefully aware that the sound barriers separating
old-timey music, vintage pop and contemporary folk are as permeable as cotton."
