-Leon's "people" have got "the word"). Check out Tracy's original on the New Lost City Rambler's CD "40 years of Concert Recordings"- -my favorite version 8-). Annie

Subject: Dirt Farmer wins Grammy in Traditional FolkHello, Everyone, We are celebrating here tonight! As many of you already know, Tracy wrote "The Poor Old Dirt Farmer" in 1965 and recorded it twice (New Lost City Ramblers and Strange Creek Singers). Levon Helm's "people" didn't do their homework and listed it on Levon's, Dirt Farmer, CD as "traditional". We were cheering for him to win anyway since the whole album was worked around Tracy's song - and tonight "we" won. We and our friends (you!) know who wrote the wonderful song. Yeaaaaaaaaa! I'm very proud of my "traditional" songwriter husband!
