Re: [OldTime-l] Birthplace of Country Music Alliance to Host Book Signing of The Story Behind the Hank Williams Commemorative Stamp

Now, it's good to herald Bill Monroe with a stamp as the founder of Bluegrass.

Birthplace of Country Music Alliance to Host Book Signing of The
Story Behind the Hank Williams Commemorative Stamp

Bristol, VA-TN (November 8, 2005) Beecher O’Quinn Jr., author of The
Story Behind the Hank Williams Commemorative Stamp will be at the
Birthplace of Country Music Museum, lower level Bristol Mall, on
Saturday November 19 from 1:00 P.M. until 2:30 P.M. for a book
signing. O’Quinn will be accompanied by local musicians who will
play music by Hank Williams Sr.

Mr. O'Quinn lobbied U.S. Congress and Senate and the U.S. Postal
Service to get Hank Williams Sr. picture on the U.S. Commemorative
postage stamp. On June 9th, 1993 this stamp was dedicated at Fan Fair
in Nashville, Tennessee. Hank Williams Jr. along with Postmaster
General Marvin Reunion attended the dedication.

This wonderful and detailed book contains over 130 photos of Hank
Williams, some of which are published for the first time. The work
also includes original correspondence from US Senators, Congressmen,
Mayors, Governors and country music artists in support of the
project. The work also includes an exquisite article with photos of
Don Howard Surface; the relief driver from Bluefield, West Virginia,
who was hired to help drive Hank Williams to Canton, Ohio on January
1, 1953.The book is for sale at the Birthplace of Country Music
Alliance Museum Gift Shop, as well as on-line at amazon.com,
booksamillion.com, and barnesandnoble.com

Mr. O'Quinn, along with Mary Wallace, also organized the Hank
Williams Sr. International Fan Club and served as the first President
from 1992 until 1996. He currently serves as the president of the
International Traditional Country Music Fan Club and resides in
Watauga, Tennessee.

The Birthplace of Country Music Alliance is a non-profit organization
dedicated to telling the story of the living musical heritage of the
Appalachian mountains and the cultural traditions that sustain it.
