My apologies to the groups for having sent the email about joining
Reunion.com . Several things that I've joined allow you to send out
emails to your address book, but they allow you to send it only to
the specific ones you choose. Reunion.com didn't allow that and
sent it to my entire address book and I didn't know how to cancel it.

Again, my apologies.

Jim

Hey Gang,

Here's the website for the band that I'm a member of. The song that
is playing on the homepage is about a real incident, and the title of
it is "Stoolie Parrot Blues" written by our fiddler, Bruce Haney.

We don't have a CD yet, but I'm hoping we can work on one soon.

As some of you may have already heard, my dad fell last week and
broke the ring finger of his left hand. Not the best thing for a
fiddler to break!! He had surgery on the finger today and all went
very well. He said that once the anesthesia wore off his finger
REALLY hurt (well, that's not exactly how he put it ), but he thinks
that should subside some after a few days. The pain medicine works
pretty well and he's hoping to be able to sleep tonight. He should
be out of commission for about 3 months. If all heals as it should
he plans to play his mid-July gig in British Columbia and Seattle
with Earl Scruggs. I will let you know his progress. I know he
would appreciate your thoughts and prayers on his behalf that the
finger will not only heal, but still work just
as well as it did before the break.

Love to all,
Melissa

Sounds like "Mississippi Sawyer" by someone who was not sure how to play it.
That basic tune is there.

I'm seeking the actual title of a fiddle tune. I'm very bad at keeping track of
tune names.

I made a homebrew recording and called it 'Great Horned Owl & Red Tailed Fox,"
for want
of the actual title.
It can be heard here, first on the playlist:
http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/album.php?aid=5159&alid=-1

Tho I call it "Great Horned Owl & Red Tailed Fox", I'm fairly-certain it's an
already-existing
tune, osmotically-learned somewhere in jams or recordings...maybe from an Arthur
Smith
recording?

I went through the recordings here: no definite match. Can anyone identify the
actual
tune/title?

The tune nagged my brain for awhile. Then I had two separate dreams about
banjos, with
this tune as the dream-soundtrack, so the situation obviously required 'Exorcism
By
Recording.'

thanks,
jane

Hello,
Bob and I will be visiting Charleston on Saturday, December 8 and
will give a small concert Saturday evening at the Hungry Monk music
store.
I'll also be giving clawhammer banjo and mountain dulcimer workshops
during the day on Saturday.
If you live anywhere near Charleston, please consider joining us for
the day--it will be lots of fun and a chance to learn a few new tunes
and technique on banjo and dulcimer.
Here are the workshop descriptions:

Old Time Banjo Workshop - 9 to 11am - $40
Creeping up the Banjo Neck (Intermediate)
Begin to play tunes up the neck in Double C or Double D tuning. Get
your fingers used to creeping past the 5th fret without music theory
or stress! We'll use this technique to learn Sally Ann, John
Stinson's #2 and Angeline. Come tuned in gCGCD. Add sparkle to your
playing while having lots of fun.

Mountain Dulcimer Workshop - 1 to 3pm - $40
Mountain Dulcimer Favorites/String Band Style (Intermediate)
Learn North Alabama fiddle tune, `Step Around Johnny" in an easy
string band style with fun variations. Mary Z. won first place in two
competitions in 2006 and one in 2007 playing this tune –and you can
learn to play it too! We'll also experiment with "Julie Ann Johnson"
and "Angeline". Please come tuned in DAD.

The concert is at 8PM and tickets are $15 advance or at the door.
To pre register and find out more:
http://www.hungrymonkmusic.com
843-571-3857 John Holenko
Bob and I will be staying with Glenn Fleming and his lovely wife--so
if you are a friend of Glenn, you may contact him for tickets too.

This is the first time we have visited Charleston near Christmas and
we bet it will be just beautiful this time of year. Even if you live
out of town-this would be a nice weekend to come and stay at a bed
and breakfast and see the sights in historic Charleston. There are
excellent restuarants and shopping to keep any spouse happy while you
are in class. [:D]

I've heard about a mini-FM transmitter that one can attach to his PC so he can
hear OTR streams on the other FM radios in the house.

I went to best Buy and they looked at me like I was nuts.

Can somebody specifically identify this item and tell me where I can get it?

I'm tired of having to sit at my PC to hear any streaming. Thanks!

First day in town and I'm starting off with a pretty elementary question.
A miscommunication during a jam session has prompted me to get online
and look around for a "list" of protocols for Old Time Jammin? What is
the best seating? What about tune selection? Who decides? Does is
start with a small circle? a large one? What works best? I have my
personal preferences, but am interested in others opinion. I was
trying to search online to find guidelines, but don't seem to be able
to put my hands on past published or written articles on the subject.
I am not looking for a satirical list - I think I have that one! : )
I am looking for some tried and true guidelines and suggestions on
making the OT Jam enjoyable for beginners and experienced players
alike. I would like to have ideas and suggestions -
Keep fiddlin!
