Subject: [InHarmony] A New God Inspired Transformation in Malaysia
Dear All,
I ask for your indulgence and patience with the style I chose to write this
message. In this way, you will allow me to dig deep into my intentions for
standing up for this temple and the spirit with which my company, DACC
Associates, set up the Unit called "Nation Building" in April 2006.
INVITATION
Firstly let me invite you and all others in your network to join us in a 'Acara
Mesra Rakyat' - a gathering at the temple premises to pray, mingle and celebrate
with Malaysians of all faiths, colour and creed. Please see attached
announcement and forward to all you can reach. It will be on at 8am, 15th July
2007 at the Periachi Amman temple in Tambak Raya, Ayer Molek, Melaka.
The prayers which will start as early as 7am, will end around 8.20am. This will
be followed by short welcome speeches by the co-hosts, En Yusof Abdullah,
Gurukkal Shri Periasamy and an officer from the National Unity Department, Mr
N.S. Maniam.
Then, we will allow the visitors to mingle, share a common breakfast and NOT
talk about problems, but instead enjoy the richness and diversity of their
new-found friends.
At 9am we are calling for a press conference and then round up the day's event
officially.
So, please help me and invite all and sundry as well as the local and foreign
media - I will need that help badly.
I chose to make a PKR Division Head my co-host because, they rallied behind me
when others were hesitant.
Additionally, Yusof believes he can draw the diverse population of our country
for this event because of his party's support for a multi-religious,
multi-cultural and multi-ethnic Malaysia.
THE BEGINNING
Actually the idea for an event of this nature started rather clumsily. Our
Gurukkal wanted to have special prayers on the 15th of July 2007. My friends and
I wanted to form a human chain, made of all ethnic groups. Yusof thought of a
press conference.
Since Yusof and his team were with us from the time we asked for help, I decided
that he should become the co-host with our Gurukkal for this event.
On consulting some of my friends, I realized that this 'almost disastrous' chain
of events provoked by Pemuda Umno could actually be turned into a blessing for
our country.
I am a strong believer in the chinese saying - "Where there is danger, there is
opportunity"
Hence, my next strategy. As I write this, my new friend Yusof, is hearing it for
the first time !!
With Yusof's help, I would like to turn the Bukit Katil Parliamentary
Constituency, from a hot bed of ethnic tension, to a model of community
integration. For this we will invite the Ministry of Azalina Othman, Sharizat
Jalil, Dr Maximus Ongkili, Prime Minister's department and whoever else who will
put aside partisan politics, ethnic and parochial chauvinism, party allegiance,
etc and work with us for nation-building.
With Yusof and the Gurukkal's help we should hold the next "Acara Mesra Rakyat"
in a surau/mosque, followed by a church, a Gurdwara, a Buddhist temple, any
spiritual movement, etc and later on move to community centres and residential
neighbourhoods, holding joint prayers, tele-matches.the works.
How about that??
When I stop to think, I find God's plans mind blowing ..WOW!!
Enough for now, but the whole idea is to "Develop Active Collaborative
Communties".
I will get back with more after I discuss with Yusof and other key people.
DACC Associates
This company formed a Unit called "Nation Building" in April 2006 after seeing
the traumatic effects of tension and conflicts on the rise in Malaysia. My
directors agreed that that our consultants and I will do community work using
the skills and talents we have, to build bridges, heal emotional and
psychological wounds, and nurture Malaysian people as a nation.
We really did not care whether we got paid for it or not - we felt that we need
to make this contribution for Malaysia's future.
So, there you go !!
Best Wishes
Harold Gomez

PRESS RELEASE: VMCC Cyber Warriors promote Malaysia through a United Malaysian
Public Initiative
In the only one of its kind people led campaign to promote Malaysia, the soft
launch of the Visit Malaysia Cyber Campaign or VMCC held at Mid Valley Megamall
on November 3-7, 2006 surpassed the initial target of 10,000 e-Cards sent since
the website was developed. The total of e-Mails and e-Cards sent out amount to
15,000!
The VMCC is a people-led campaign, to support Tourism Malaysia's effort to
invite the world to visit Malaysia in 2007 through the usage of e-Mail and
e-Cards send out. The official launch of this event will be held at the PIKOM PC
Fair from December 1-3, 2006.
Organised by Rayma Sdn Bhd and supported by Tourism Malaysia, the campaign is
designed to allow Malaysians from all walks of life to send as many e-cards as
they can, to as many people as they can from all over the world, to invite them
to visit Malaysia.
In order to do so, they will have to get their e-cards from the official
www.vmcc.com.my website. A tracker mechanism will then track the quantity of
e-cards sent out from the website by each individual. Winners will stand to win
monthly prizes from VMCC sponsors, namely Reach Publishing (PC.com, Business
Today, EPL, Digital Camera & Photography magazines), Acer, Imation and Sonic
Gear. These prizes include a year's subscription to one of Reach Publishing's
magazine of your choice, speakers, thumb drives and other computer peripherals.
A grand prize will be held at the end of this year, with winners able to walk
home with many great prizes, including a top range Acer notebook! To date, more
than 300,000 people visited the VMCC website.
"We believe this is the FIRST of its kind worldwide where citizens play a role
to promote one's country in a unified and concerted effort. We want to
demonstrate "People Power" in a different and constructive manner. The aim is to
get every Malaysian who has access to email to send messages to as many foreign
friends as possible, and make a one-to-one effort to tell others about our
country" says Ms Pat Lu, the VMCC initiator.
VMCC is not a new concept, but has quite an interesting history attached to it.
It came about as the brainchild of a number of concerned Malaysians who were
affected by the Asian Financial Crisis in 1997, exactly 10 years ago. At the
time, the KLSE dropped to 262 and the entire local economy was depressed. In an
effort to get Malaysia back on its feet, a group of Malaysians got together and
decided that the way out was for the people to do something about it. They
realised that Malaysia's biggest asset was the beauty and the splendour of the
country itself. They then decided to get the world to visit Malaysia. These
Malaysians adhered to the spirit of "Negara Kita, Tanggungjawab Kita" - our
country, our responsibility - and got to work to walk the talk to promote
Malaysia to the world, to get the economy moving once again. The idea was simple
then. To set up a website to send out e-Cards to as many people worldwide as
possible. Amazingly enough, support came from all quarters - from the Prime
Minister, all the way to the man on the street. From the corporate sector, the
media to the schoolchildren, hundreds of thousands of e-cards were sent out.
For the VMCC 2007, the organisers hope to have a much larger participation from
ground events as well as direct participation from visitors to the official
website. Pat Lu is grateful to the support she has received from all quarters
towards the successful of soft launch of VMCC 2007.
"Renowned Malaysian Cartoonist Reggie Lee contributed his cartoons to be used as
e-Cards. In addition to that, I am happy to note that we have more than 500
registered members actively participating as "VMCC Cyber Warriors" in this
campaign nationwide"
She added that as part of the Malaysian society, we the citizens must take the
first initiative to promote the country that we love so dearly. "We cannot
expect the government to do everything, we must do our part too. With the
country celebrating 50 years of "Merdeka", it couldn't have been a better time
to help promote Malaysia to the world!" adds Lu.
"VMCC is a people-led campaign - we need the help of every single Malaysian and
everyone who loves Malaysia to make this work. Send an e-card or two everyday!
You may think that what you can do is only a drop in the ocean, but as someone
famously said, yes - that is true, but if you didn't do it, the ocean would be
one drop less."
The public is encouraged to promote Malaysia by sending the VMCC 2007 e-cards to
their friends from all over the world at the official website at www.vmcc.com.my

Let's not jeopardise the much-needed space of fresh air to breath in,
amidst the world of conflicts, misunderstanding, and politic-ing.
Note: If you feel strongly about the issues then raise it up at the
proper forum and perhaps create your own personal blog.
Hi all...
I was just wondering WHY is the world in such a mess. War and strife everywhere
in one form or another, even in our own homes, companies, political parties,
religious organizations everywhere.
And i asked, "WHY, God?"
Answer, "Not my doing. Human doing. Everyone is trying to play God instead of
being God that is love expressed."
Here's an example of the media playing God...
Marina Mahathir's _incomplete_ article on No Cheer for Muslim Women at
http://thestar.com.my/columnists/story.asp?file=/columnists/2006/3/10/musings/13\
565323&sec=Musings
Her last two paragraphs that were censored as seen at
http://forum.lowyat.net/lofiversion/index.php/t262706.html with Marina's
personal note :
In this country, our leaders claim to stand for all citizens. Our Prime
Minister is the Prime Minister of all Malaysians, our Ministers work for all
Malaysians in their respective fields. There are two exceptions to this. The
Minister for Islamic Affairs is obviously only for Muslims; even though some of
the things he does affect others. While the Minister for Women purports to work
for all Malaysian women, even though not all Malaysian women benefit from that
work. Perhaps we should consolidate the apartheid of women in this country by
having a Ministry for Non-Muslim Women which works to ensure that Non-Muslim
women enjoy the benefits of the Convention for the Elimination of Discrimination
against Women, a UN document which Malaysia signed and is legally bound to
implement, and a Ministry for Muslim Women which works to gag and bind Muslim
women more and more each day for the sake of political expediency under the
guise of religion.
Today is International Women's Day. Unfortunately only about 40% of the
women in this country can celebrate. The rest can only look at their Non-Muslim
sisters in despair and envy.
Anyone has Marina Mahathir's personal email address? I'm still trying to get her
latest article that was _completely_ censored this time round.
Love and God bless

No cheer for Muslim women
By MARINA MAHATHIR
In 1948, one of humankind's most despicable ideas, apartheid, was made into
law in South Africa where racial discrimination was institutionalised. Race laws
touched every aspect of social life, including a prohibition of marriage between
non-whites and whites, and the sanctioning of "white-only" jobs. Although there
were 19 million blacks and only 4.5 million whites in South Africa, the majority
population were forced to be second-class citizens in their homeland, banished
to reserves and needing passports to travel outside them, even within their own
country. It was only in 1990 that apartheid began to crumble and South Africans
of all colours were finally free to live as equals in every way.
With the end of that racist system, people may be forgiven for thinking that
apartheid does not exist anymore. While few countries practise any formal
systems of discrimination, nevertheless you can find many forms of
discrimination everywhere. In many cases, it is women who are discriminated
against. In our country, there is an insidious growing form of apartheid among
Malaysian women, that between Muslim and non-Muslim women.
We are unique in that we actively legally discriminate against women who are
arguably the majority in this country, Muslim women. Non-Muslim Malaysian women
have benefited from more progressive laws over the years while the opposite has
happened for Muslim women.
For instance, since the Law Reform (Marriage and Divorce) Act 1976, polygamy
among non-Muslims was banned. Previously men could have as many wives as they
wanted under customary laws. Men's ability to unilaterally pronounce divorce on
their wives was abolished and, in its place, divorce happens by mutual consent
or upon petition by either spouse in an equal process where the grounds are
intolerable adultery, unreasonable behaviour, desertion of not less than two
years, and living separately for not less than two years. Compare that to the
lot of Muslim women abandoned but not divorced by their husbands.
Other progressive reforms in the civil family law in the late 1990s were
amendments to the Guardianship Act and the Distribution Act. The Guardianship of
Infants Act 1961 was amended to provide for equal guardianship for both father
and mother, rather than the previous provision where only the father was the
primary guardian of the children. In contrast, the Islamic Family Law still
provides for the father as the sole primary guardian of his children although
the mother is now allowed to sign certain forms for her children under an
administrative directive.
The Distribution Act 1958 was also amended to provide for equal inheritance
for widows and widowers, and also granted children the right to inherit from
their mothers as well as from their fathers. Under the newly proposed amendments
to the Islamic Family Law, the use of gender-neutral language on the issue of
matrimonial property is discriminatory on Muslim women when other provisions in
the IFL are not gender-neutral. Muslim men may still contract polygamous
marriages, may unilaterally divorce their wives for the most trivial of reasons
and are entitled to double shares of inheritance.
These differences between the lot of Muslim women and non-Muslim women beg
the question: do we have two categories of citizenship in Malaysia, whereby most
female citizens have less rights than others? As non-Muslim women catch up with
women in the rest of the world, Muslim women here are only going backwards. We
should also note that only in Malaysia are Muslim women regressing; in every
other Muslim country in the world, women have been gaining rights, not losing
them.

We are in the hours leading up to Valentine’s Day, and during this time
of year the thoughts of many turn to love. Romantic love. You know…
the kind that so many people are so hung up on. I observe that during
most of my life, I have had no idea what love is. Many other people, I
think, fall into the same category. I like to think that I have learned
a little bit about all this from my Conversations with God experience,
but I would in no way lay claim to any kind of elevated awareness about
love.
Here’s what I know. Many people confuse “love” with “need.” Many
people think that they need something from someone other than
themselves in order to be fully happy. We’re talking about happiness
on a personal level now, not happiness in a career or happiness with
our trinkets and possessions.
Personal happiness seems to only be full and rich when we have someone
to share it with…but the danger is that to many it feels as if this
means someone to “get happiness from.” I think that what I’ve learned
is that if we feel that someone else—that magical “other”—is going to
bring us happiness, we have misunderstood what love really is.
Yet, as I said, we would not be alone in this misunderstanding. Tons of
people believe themselves to have needs, and they see life as a quest
for “need fulfillment.” Indeed, they see LOVE as “need fulfillment.”
“You fill my needs and I’ll fill yours.”
For many, this is what it feels that love is all about. We look for
someone who can fill our needs. We call this “compatibility.” And once
we find someone who seems to have all the equipment to fill our needs,
we run around trying to fill theirs.
It drives us crazy when we meet a totally self-fulfilled person who
apparently HAS no needs…because we can’t do anything FOR them. How are
we going to earn their love if we can’t do anything FOR them?
Fortunately, there aren’t very many self-fulfilled people around, so we
don’t have to worry. Most others who come into our life have needs of
their own, so if we want to get really close to them…even intimate…we
subtly work out a “deal.”
Like two nations with stuff each of them needs, we enter into a Trade
Agreement. “You give me this and I’ll give you that.” Then, on
Valentine’s Day, we run around trying to find the perfect greeting
card…but we can’t find one that expresses our true feeling…
My Dearest, Darling Trader…
I trade you very much.
I will always trade you.
I will trade you until the end of time.
I promise to never be a traitor
And always be a trade.
We can tell that we have entered into a Trade Deal when, if the other
person stops providing us with what we think we need to be happy, we
start feeling short-changed. And, if this goes on, we want “out” of the
arrangement.
This, of course, is not True Love.
True Love does not say “I love you IF…” True love says “I love you
BECAUSE…”
And what is the “because…”?
The “because” is….”because you’re alive. Because you’re YOU.”
This is how God loves us. No conditions. No “if’s”. Oh, and by the
way, no “trades.” God doesn’t give us all good things only if we give
God what we imagine that God “wants.” God gives us good things every
day of our life, regardless of how we treat God…or anyone else.
You see, God has not created a Reward & Punishment kind of
universe…even though most people think that God has. God has
EVERYTHING, so there is NOTHING that God wants. This allows God to love
us without placing requirements on us to love God in return, through
some specific demonstration, behavior, or ritual.
Ah, would that we could all love like God!
Well…life gives us a chance to practice that. And that, I have found,
is where the real joy is. I’m learning that Love is not about what I
get from another, but about what I give.
Old stuff, I know. Ancient truth, heard from our Moms a hundred
times. But right now, as we move toward Valentine’s Day, it’s a nice
time to remember that.
Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone. And be happy in love.

I refer to the letter, Our choirs can be among the best (The Star, Jan 2) from Kerry J. I would like to say that our choir is among the best. That choir is none other than our own home-grown award-winning Operafest Childrens Choir.
The choir has won numerous awards and citations from its travels abroad. It has performed with some of the best choirs in the world including the Vienna Boys Choir twice.
The choir has made Malaysia famous and received standing ovations touring Argentina, Wales, England, India, Singapore, Australia, USA, Greece, Macedonia, Spain and Holland.
Operafest has been around for 20 years, yet only a handful of people know of its existence.
It is because the choir excels that its members are given VIP treatment wherever they travel. They meet with ambassadors, governors and are even given keys to various cities.
In terms of choral singing, I believe Operafest has proven it is on par with global standards.
All other Malaysian choirs should take note of its achievements and push to better themselves by gaining more exposure by travelling abroad.
In our continued push to become a developed nation, the Education Ministry should look into re-introducing music as a subject in schools.
The current music classes in primary schools are minimal and lacking in depth and, in most secondary schools, music classes are completely non-existent.
Parents who can afford it send their children to private tutors or centres to have at least some sort of musical grounding. What about those who cant?
If the Government can provide proper music education in all schools, it would not be long before we have our own Mozart.
Music provides creative stimulation and helps the spoonfed kids of today to think outside the box.
We should not stress so much on academic results but rather on producing a cultured and well-rounded younger generation.
THE Operafest Children's Choir is
on the hunt for new members. Audition starts this Saturday and Sunday,
7 & 8 January 2006 from 3pm to 6pm at school hall of Sekolah
Kebangsaan Seri Suria in Taman Tan Yew Lai, Puchong, Kuala Lumpur.

About Operafest Children's Choir Read this blog by Danny Foo...
Just when you think that some kids are supporters of evil, shrieking around in their underwear, these kids in Operafest are a sight that dazzles you. If you've not heard of them, it's nothing surprising because they've never gotten enough publicity by the government and their presence was spread online enough.
Anyway, can you believe that these children are the second best children's choir in the world. I'm not kidding. The choir group ahead of them (though hopefully not for long) is the Vienna Boys Choir.
I don't know about you, but missing such existence of young high achievers was embarassing even when I found out.

Arthritis Foundation Malaysia presents A3 - Art in Action for Arthritis 2005 - Theme: Arthritis in Children Saturday, 26 November 2005 at 2PM-6PM 1 Utama New Wing, 2nd Floor, Highstreet (Open space in front of U Parkson / MPH)
"All it takes is some oil... sometimes!"
There is no cure for arthritis but it can be controlled and managed. Arthritis is not just a disease of the elderly. It can happen to you and me. It can happen to little children too. But life goes on. Things evolve. Nothing comes to a standstill if we keep on moving. Every bit of contribution, like oil on creaky joints, would bea source of great encouragement and is truly appreciated. Over half the world's population suffers from arthritis. Many do so in silence because of ignorance and the lack of funds to seek treatment. With this in mind, Arthritis Foundation Malaysia (AFM) hopes to raise greater awareness of arthritis among sufferers, caregivers, supporters and the general public alike. Funds raised from A3 (Art in Action for Arthritis) activities will go towards helping underpriviledged people with severe arthritis.
Bring out your creative side for charity. Paint a sculpture to help people with arthritis. For just RM20 contribution per person, form teams (4 persons) with friends, families or colleagues to paint your very own sculpture and make a difference to someone's life. Download leaflet and entry form athttp://www.operafest.net/concert/AFM05flyer.pdf
Programme
1.00 pm:
Registration: Sculpture Painting (above 8 years) Colouring Contest (4 - 10 years) All materials provided plus Goodie Bag
