ANNIHILVS X – CELEBRATING TEN YEARS OF ANNIHILVS & NTT
Text by Heathen Panzer and Leech
For the past 10 years, the Annihilvs label has been a staple in the
New York-area Post-Industrial & Power Electronics scene.
Owned and operated by Leech of Navicon Torture Technologies, Annihilvs
has worked with a cross-section of artists that span the spectrum of
Industrial music.
In the late 90s and early on in the new millennium, with the formation
of the weekly industrial event ATROCITY, Leech (and by extension,
Annihilvs) was involved in the organization of numerous live
performances by landmark artists in the underground. Early ATROCITY
shows included the milestone, first ever NYC appearance of Noisex,
which was followed by a slew of underground electronic shows.
Whether it was independently, or in cooperation with other entities,
during the years 1998-2002 Annihilvs organized performances in New
York City by the following artists:
Ah Cama-Sotz, Asche, Aural Blasphemy, Converter, Cruelty Campaign,
Death Squad, Dysmorphia, Exercise in Disgust, Fragment King, Holocaust
Theory, Hydra, Hypnoskull, Imminent Starvation, Klangstabil, Meson,
Travis Morgan, Morgenstern, Noisex, NoizGuild, No Festival of Light,
Orphx, Pain Receptor, P•A•L, Silksaw, Synapscape, Synth-Etik,
Tarmvred, Terror Organ, Vromb, Winterkälte and more.
In June 2005, Leech organized the APEX FEST, featuring the first US
appearances of Swedish cult acts Irm, Institut, Jarl and Kaiten,
sharing the stage with American artists Omei, Post Scriptvm, Slogun
and Canadian act SKM-ETR.
As a label, Annihilvs has risen from its modest beginnings in August
1997 as the first outlet for NTT, to set a standard for releasing high
quality industrial albums; maintaining the DIY ethos of an
organization owned and operated by a passionate artist, rather than
functioning as an opportunistic vehicle for commercial gain or
pretentious social status.
The Annihilvs roster has grown to include recognized names in the
industrial underground such as Irm, Jarl, Propergol, and Wilt, while
working closely with lesser-known local artists such as Black
Centipede, Silent_Command, and M Slagle. Plans are currently in the
works for an expansion of the scope and reach of the label, as Leech
continues pressing onward and upward, striving toward maintaining his
presence as a positive force in the New York underground scene.
In September 2006, Annihilvs, in partnership with fellow NYC-based
promoters Brooklyn Dildo Factory, founded the series of live events
known as UNSOUND.
With the intention of breathing revitalizing air to New York City,
UNSOUND has hosted a diverse range of artists:
Angel of Decay, Aidan Baker, Ästen, The Beta Cloud, Black Centipede,
Casey Block, Marc Burch (a member of Industrial legends Schloss
Tegal), Cenotype, Clipped, Conure, Coven of One (a member of The
Legendary Pink Dots and Dead Voices on Air collaborator), Death by a
Thousand Cuts, Destructo Swarmbots, Edgey, The [Law-Rah] Collective,
Mekh, Todd Merrell, MGR (Mike Gallagher of Isis), Mutus Liber, Nadja,
Negativehate, Novelist, Ocean, James Plotkin, Power Circus, Post
Scriptvm, Radial, Replogen, Sikhara, Silent_Command, Sleep Museum,
Skincage, Troum, Unearthly Trance, Wilt, Woe is Me, Bain Wolfkind, Tim
Wyskida, Zerodollars and Z'ev, with more to come in the near future.
On August 11th, 2007, Annihilvs will celebrate its 10th anniversary
with a mix of new and old. Prometheus Burning, Cenotype, and Statas
have been making their rounds on the East Coast and beyond, and will
be sharing the stage with scene veterans Iszoloscope and Navicon
Torture Technologies, to supply a mix of almost every flavor of
Industrial music.
Jade Vixen will make a return to the DJ booth, joining with Heathen
Panzer to keep the atmosphere flowing between live sets, bringing even
more variation to the evening's sonic proceedings.
Attendees can look forward to some major announcements from Annihilvs,
as well as a merchandise booth featuring selections from the label's
growing discography, including limited items produced specifically for
this event, which (not coincidentally) takes place on Leech's birthday.

Navicon Torture Technologies saw its first official release in August
of 1997, in the form of `AMALGAM: A Collection of War Poems.'
AMALGAM was a split cd featuring lo-fi ambient noise and power
electronics from NTT along with Negative Eight, a genre-bending
electronic side project of the grind/industrial band Negativehate,
whose members happened to live just around the corner from NTT
frontman Lee Bartow (who would come to be known as `Leech').
As an outlet for this release, and with the idea of more to come,
Leech founded the Annihilvs label. Not long after, a series of very
limited cassettes followed.
After that, NTT slowly gained more exposure. The `Insanity' cassette
on flighty label LSD Organisation was released shortly before the
"Analog Artifacts" CD-r on Annihilvs, until a deal with Malignant
Records introduced NTT to the world at large with the "Scenes from the
Next Millennium" CD in 2000.
Navicon Torture Technologies has birthed more than 11 cassettes, 7
full-length CDs, over 45 CD-R releases, and more than a dozen remixes
and compilation appearances. NTT has released CDs on Blade Records
(Italy), Cranial Fracture Recordings (Australia), Eibon Records
(Italy), Immanence Records (UK), Malignant Records (US) and NCC
Records (US).
Limited CD-Rs by NTT have been released by Stridulum Recordings
(Italy), PACRec/Troniks (US). Navicon Torture Technologies has
appeared on compilations and remix albums released by Ant-Zen, BFI
Unit, Chondritic Sound, DTA Records, Hive Records, Horch!, Invasion
Wreck Chords, L'Ame Electrique, Megahertz, Objective/Subjective, Pre
Feed, Spectre, Word Made Flesh, and many more. NTT has collaborated
with, remixed, or been remixed by several respected names in the
underground scene, including The Biped Project, Cenotype, Converter,
Coph Nia, Herbst9, I Burn, Irm, Klangstabil, Lefthandeddecision,
Negativehate, Pneumatic Detach, SKM-ETR, Synapscape, Wilt, Salt, Still
Life Decay, and Terrorfakt.
The name Navicon Torture Technologies has come to be a recognized in
the industrial music scene, forging a sound all its own, combining
hypnotic loops and dark atmosphere that would accompany the more
traditional Power Electronics
sound. The NTT sound also features female vocal manipulation, and a
unique delivery of crushing Rhythmic Noise, again proving Leech's
ability to take any form of extreme electronics and give it his
signature twist.
Leech would come to call his art Power Romance, a term abstract enough
to encapsulate the various concepts, styles, and sound that encompass
NTT, yet descriptive enough to differentiate himself from his influences.
Throughout the history of the project, the misguided quest for love
has been a prevailing theme. NTT is the story of that quest turned
into a nightmare. It is the tale of hope, failure, joy, anger,
revenge, pity, worship, destruction, the tale of an amalgamated beast,
man and god looking for love in all the wrong places.
With the ten-year anniversary of the project now at hand, Navicon
Torture Technologies truly has come to the end of an era. After 10
years of heart-rending screams from a man disgusted by himself and the
world around him, the tide must now turn.
Like an unrevenged victim, Navicon Torture Technologies will slowly
slip beneath the waves, weighted down by the guilt of her murderer,
she will rest at the bottom of an un-named lake. Gone, but never
forgotten, her spirit will continue to haunt us from time to time as
we remember her glance, her smell, the taste of her skin. It will be a
slow mourning process, but the world will move forward in its
inconsequential way, and blooms will be brighter in the spring.
The chronicles of Power Romance will reach an end with the VTERVS CD
(NCC Records), THE GOSPELS OF THE GASH 2XCD (Malignant Records), and
BOTTOMFEEDER CASSETTE (NIL BY MOUTH). As a last gasp, NTT will
contribute tracks to a few compilations, and a collaborative release
with Cenotype entitled THE LAST EUROPEAN/THE RAZOR EATER will see the
light of day later this year. NTT will perform for the last time in
autumn 2007.
ANNIHILVS proudly presents our first proper CD release from IRM: THE
CULT OF THE YOUNG MEN.<br>Returning with a singularly cold, desolate
and lonely release, IRM continues to fervently espous irreligious,
body-obsessed abstractions of the highest order. Departing from the
aggressive PE outbursts of the past, the duo of Erik Jarl and Martin
Bladh sculpt pulsating drones and powerfully dark sounds, as the
bleeding wound of IRM continues to flower.
THE CULT OF THE YOUNG MEN contains 'live' tracks recorded in the
studio, selections from live performances (including the APEX Fest),
and a cover of JOY DIVISION's 'Here are the Young Men.'

i am currently in the process of relocating ANNIHILVS operations to
the premises of LAST STOP RECORDING & REHEARSAL.

LAST STOP will serve as a physical location for the label's continued
expansion. This should aid in the streamlining and efficiency that i
have long dreamed of, but to which i have rarely come close.
