Pardi-Gras Update #11

from Sail Away Entertainment

December 31 , 2008
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What's New!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here's what's NEW with Pardi-Gras 2009:

1) REGISTRATION CLOSES JAN. 1! The last day to make "on-time" registration
is tomorrow, Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009. On Time Registration guarantees you
that you'll get a shirt in the size you want, and a badge with your name on
it. And yes, while we do have "late-registration" we don't guarantee
t-shirts, badges, or goodie bags after Jan. 1. Take a minute, and register
today!

2) HOST HOTEL EXTENDS RATE UNTIL JAN. 7! If you want to stay where all the
action is, and you want to get that great "Pardi-Gras" rate, then you'll
need to make your reservation at the Bourbon Orleans Hotel no later than 5pm
on Wednesday, Jan. 7. Our block of PARDI-GRAS rooms will be released back
into inventory at that time. Don't miss out! (see below for reservation
details)
3) RIDE IN THE PARADE WITH RADIO MARGARITAVILLE!
Here's your opportunity to ride in the Pardi-Gras Parade with the Radio
Margaritaville on-air crew! That's right, we're auctioning off the chance
for some lucky Pardi-Gras attendee to ride with Carson Cooper, Greg Dumas,
and Sheila Chimento, in the Radio Margaritaville car in our Friday night
parade (see "Event Profile" below). This is how it works: we'll take bids
every day until Jan. 15 to win the chance to ride with the RM crew. We'll
take the highest bidder at that time. The money raised will go into our
donation to our two designated charities. The initial bid is for $50, from
Mary Diaz. To place your bid, e-mail Jerry Diaz, at jerry@...
We'll post the current bids on the Pardi-Gras website every day.

4) Folks from 26 different states (and Canada) are currently registered for
Pardi-Gras 2009!

Event Profile - "World Famous Pub Crawl"

  Pub Crawl
<http://origin.ih.constantcontact.com/fs046/1101829659176/img/56.jpg?a=11023
89978405>
The longest running event at Pardi-Gras (and still the most popular) is the
"World Famous Pub Crawl". Imagine 200 or so highly-motivated drinkers
walking into your bar on Bourbon Street, all wanting a drink RIGHT NOW! Well
that's the perspective of the 6 bars that we go into on Friday afternoon
during Pardi-Gras. Led on this "mission" by Jon Boy, Wayne Williamson, and
Dammit Earl (you'll know who they are) we follow one simple rule: you must
have one drink at every bar we go into. It's an honor system kind of thing,
so we need to know that we can count on you to hold up your end. We'll start
at the Bourbon Cowboy, at 135 Bourbon Street (where they have 3 for 1's BTW)
and eventually make our way down to the Tropical Isle at Orleans St. and
Bourbon, for the show by Latitude. In case you haven't figured it out, it's
really just an excuse for a bunch of otherwise responsible adults to act
like the children they really are (and have fun doing it!)

The "World Famous Pub Crawl" happens at various locations on Bourbon Street
on Friday , Jan. 16, from 4pm - 6pm.

Can you say blow out? The San Diego Chargers are now AFC West
Champions. Yes, for all of us who plodded through the muck and mire
of NFL limbo we can now be thankful for practicing restraint when the
urge to smash our televisions reared it's ugly head. I've seen it,
I've heard it explained, I know what's been said but I still don't

understand how a team with an 11-5 record this season can be
eliminated from the chance to be in the playoffs while another with
an 8-8 performance has Super Bowl XLIII in sight. I'll take it and
thank you Chargers for a wonderful come back. GO CHARGERS!!

No Desi and Friends this week.

Tuesday, December 30 I will be at section F5 from 12-2pm for the
Holiday Bowl then over to the End Zoner Party to jam with Trade
Winds. We're bringing tropical rock and roll to Quaalcom Stadium.

Wednesday, December 31 I will be joining some of my musician friends
for a low key, $10 cover charge, BYOB, pot luck NYE party. Contact
cheri72@... to RSVP.

Saturday, January 3 Stars On The Water will be at The Galley At The
Marina from 6-10pm. Help us enjoy another Charger victory and dance
the night away in celebration.

Through all the ups and downs of life that have plotted the course of
2008 I am grateful for the loves of my life, my wife, my family, my
friends, and my music to be sailing with me into a new era of peace,
love, and laughter. Happy New Year and thank you for your constant
support, it is truly appreciated - jer

8:15p -9:00p +Pardi-Gras 2009 Parade! Tropical Isle to Margaritaville

The Pardi-Gras Parade is a popular ongoing tradition at our event. We've
been doing this since the year 2004, and it is one of the highlights of
Friday's many activities. We parade in a designated route from the Tropical
Isle (Bourbon @ Orleans) down Bourbon Street. We encourage everyone to bring
(or buy) beads to throw to the hundreds of people lining the sidewalks of
Bourbon Street. We'll have walkers in costumes, in normal dress, and also
vehicles from some of our sponsors. The newly crowned Pardi-Gras King and
Queen guide the parade in the "official" lead car. If you'd like to have a
vehicle of your own in the parade, please contact Parade Chairman Bud Byram,
at <mailto:gbyram@...> gbyram@... If you'd like to walk in the
parade, all you have to do is be ready to line up at the Tropical Isle at
Orleans Street on Friday night at 8pm (right after the Crowning of the King
and Queen).

RIDE IN THE PARADE WITH RADIO MARGARITAVILLE!

Christmas eve and I've finally finished my shopping. Santa's loading
up his sleigh and I'm about to nestle all snug in my bed and let
those sugar plums dance me off to slumber land. I hope Santa brings
you lots of good things as well as World peace and economic balance.
OK, at least lots of good things. I'm sure the rest of it will come
along real soon. Happy Christmas to all and to all a good night.

There won't be any Desi and Friends gigs this week or next week.

Saturday, December 27 Stars On The Water will be at the Galley At The
Marina in Chula Vista from 6-10pm. Bring the good things you got for
Christmas for show and tell.

Thanks for your ongoing support and energy. You are truly appreciated

As the various clubs are reporting their latest good deeds, I can't help but
think what a great group of people there are in this organization.  The holidays
seem to bring an extra dose of giving and caring, too.  We're an awesome group!

Here's what the Arizona Parrot Head Club has done lately.

We adopted a family for Christmas through Labor's Community Service Agency, a
group that works with transitioning families out of homelessness.  Our $500
provided a great holiday for a single Mom and her two daughters and gave them
some much needed goods to rebuild their lives.

At our Holiday party on Dec. 6, we collected $1,500 worth of toys for Andrea's
Closet, an organization in local hospitals that allows nurses to give toys and
games to pediatric patients when they need a little boost in spirits.

Also at our party, we presented Brent Morris, Executive Director of West Valley
Child Crisis Center, a check for $10,000.  The money was raised at our annual
Parrot Grande event through a raffle, silent auction and golf tournament.

To round off the year, we donated $500 to musician Mark Mulligan's Castaway Kids
organization that's helping the families and children in Guaymas, Mexico find a
productive way out of poverty.

Safe travels to everyone during the holidays.  In the immortal words of Sergeant
Phil Esterhaus, "Let's be careful out there."

Please send your warmest thoughts and prayers to the family of my
good friend John Milner who passed away yesterday morning. I've known
John for many years and have always enjoyed sharing a song, a set, a
stage, a laugh with him. Travel well, amigo and we'll raise our
glasses high to you this holiday season.

Tuesday, December 16 I will be at Desi and Friends in Point Loma with
Just Frenz from 7-9:30pm for a Parrot Head Christmas Hootenanny and
Desi's Swedish glüg party. You've never had glüg before? Now's your
chance. It goes wonderful with the best cheeseburgers and fresh cut
fries in town.

Wednesday, December 17 I will be at the Chula Vista RV Park from
5-6:30pm for their Christmas sing along. Then it's off to Desi and
Friends to finish off the glüg and sing some more carols while eating
the best cheeseburgers and fresh cut fries in town. Starting time is
when I get there.

Thursday, December 18 I will be at En Fuego in Del Mar for a private
tropically impaired Christmas party. I doubt there will be any glüg
but sangria works just as good although it's not heated.

Friday, December 19 Stars On The Water will be at The Ocean House in
Carlsbad from 8:30-11:30pm. There may be glüg, there may be sangria,
and there will be great beers and mixed drinks to go along with
dinner or an appetizer.

Saturday, December 20 Stars On The Water will be at The Galley At The
Marina in Chula Vista from 6-10pm. You'll have to ask about the glüg
and sangria. Great dinner menu and excellent drink selection.

Sunday, December 21 Stars On The Water will be at The Galley At The
Marina again but this time from 5-9pm. The Charger game should be
over so come on down and celebrate their victory with us and dance
the night away. Glüg and sangria, optional.

Whether you're drinking glüg, sangria, mixed drinks, or any other
alcoholic beverage remember to party responsibly and have a
designated driver or call a cab. Don't be wasting lives because
you're wasted. Stars On The Water CDs available at CD Baby, iTunes,
and www.StarsOnTheWater.com

Thank you for your ongoing support and energy. You are sincerely

Good Evening PHiP Groups & all fellow Parrot Heads,

I was on-line and in Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville page I came across an
article about the "International Organization of Parrot Head Clubs." The article
said that there are 227 chapters with 25,000 members...I know that PHiP is a
much larger organization. ..but what is the "International Organization of
Parrot Head Clubs"...are they associated with PHiP or is it a new and upcoming
group? Are chapters in PHiP allowed to also be part of this organization?

I found it very interesting that our "Parrot Heads in Paradise" were not
mentioned in this article...does anyone know who they are?

Thank you for your time.

Until we meet again (in Key West)...

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Season Greetings & Happy New Year,
Al

"Picture quality is lacking" & "Many of the episodes are repeated on multiple
discs"....2 of the 3 written reviews at Amazon.

Think it is worth $115.95 + s&h charges?

I didn't see it available for rent at Blockbuster or Netflix.

My good friend Wendy Peat is having radical surgeries today. Please
send her good thoughts and keep her in your prayers for the next
couple of days. Happy birthday, Desi. Gas at Costco in Santee $1.59 a
gallon.

Wednesday, December 10 I will be at Desi and Friends in Point Loma
from 7-9:30pm celebrating Dave Armstrong's ultimate "F" word
birthday, FIFTY!! He's actually 18 with 32 years of experience. Desi
will be selling the best cheeseburgers and fresh cut fries in town.

Saturday, December 13 Stars On The Water will be in Glendale at
Clancy's Crab Shack for the Los Angeles Parrot Head Club Christmas
Party and fund raiser. Our special guest Tony Baloney will be
performing with us also. Things get underway at 5:30pm.

Thank you for your constant support and energy. You are truly
appreciated - jer

Howdy everyone,

The incoming board for the Arizona Parrot Head Club was announced at our Holiday
Party on Dec. 6,

The lucky folks are:

President - Rick Dudley
Vice-President - Kathy Pfister
Secretary - Tammy Bauman
Members At Large - Sonja Bolf, Tracy Kenison, Cathy McDonough, Mark McGuffin and
Barb Young

No one ran for Treasurer (we don't have many bean counters in our group) so we
will appoint a person at our January BOD meeting.

Thanks to Annette Maynard for being our Election Chair this year.

Hi Parrotheads,

Below is a "thank you" from the Zonta Club of Key West. I wanted to
pass it on to all of you.
Again, thanks for your support of "Team Parrothead" in this year's
Zonta Walk/Run at MOTM 2008.

Fins UP!

Susan Richardson
"Team Parrot Head" Coordinator

Lisa Herman
Kathy McInvale
Charlotte Skinner
Assistant "Team Parrot Head" Coordinators

************************************************

This year, Zonta's ABC Walk raised over $33,000.00 to provide
uninsured and underinsured women with much needed mammograms. This
great success would not have been possible without your donation. We
greatly appreciate your support of this project. Zonta has been
holding the ABC Walk for the past sixteen years and has significantly
increased the early detection of breast cancer among a vulnerable
population in the Keys – those who cannot afford screening tests to
substantiate their illness. Of all the activities that you may
support in the Key West Area, please be aware that this project is
truly making a difference. The Zonta Club of Key West thanks you
sincerely for your donation .

Your support of our fundraiser and your support of the fundraisers
that the Parrotheads support is greatly appreciated!

Once again, thank you from the Zonta Club of Key West and thank you
for joining in the fight against Breast Cancer.

Sincerely,

Terri Axford
For the Zonta Club of Key West

Hey jer,

It doesn't look a bit like Christmas here unless you are at Kmart or in the
Mall. Thanksgiving was GReat.

Hope you are getting into the Holiday spirit!

Take care,

In one month from today we will be two days into 2009 and I haven't
even put up my Christmas decorations yet. I think I'll go back to
dial up service and see if that makes time go by slower. Yes, it's
beginning to look a lot like Christmas and I hope your Thanksgiving
was great.

Wednesday, December 3 I will be at Desi and Friends in Point Loma
from 7-9:30pm. Best cheeseburgers and fresh cut fries in town.

Friday, December 5 I will be at the Galley At The Marina in Chula
Vista sitting in for Dave Houser from 6-10pm. The patio area is now
covered and heated for your comfort. Please drop in and say hello.
Happy Birthday, Alli!

Saturday, December 6 and Sunday December 7 Andy Tirpak and I will be
at Cougar Vineyards in Temecula from 6-8pm for the winery's "Pink
Release Party." Although the party is for members only anyone can
join the club. Call 951.491.0825 for more info. Part of the proceeds
from sales of both evenings will go to the Inland Empire Affiliate of
Susan G. Komen For The Cure. The key to survival is early detection.

Thank you for your ongoing support. You are truly appreciated - jer
