Hello Friends

Here is a "blog" I'm posting on myspace. The news is that Number Seven
is very shortly going to be released. I'll keep you posted and I would
appreciate any buzz you can give it once we have it ready to send out.

Here's the blog:

Well, we have dragged our feet, haven't we, with the release of Number
Seven??? Mea Culpa. This was supposed to be an "easy" stopgap album
before we commenced work on the opus "Infernal". However, Number Seven
grew to its own gargantuan specifications and became an album very
important and special to the band that is Phideaux. This is our first
album since we've played live together. This is the product of a group
coming together, often in the same room, to produce results in ways we'd
not previously experienced. For this reason, and perhaps because of
some astrological confluences, Number Seven has come out quite diffently
from what we had supposed -- and it has taken a lot longer than anticipated.

But, during this period, we've not been fallow. There are many
developments. Shortly after Number Seven, we will release our next
album 7½, yet another stepping stone on our path. 7½ came about because
we had some songs "lying around". A few outtakes and a song written for
a still unreleased "compilation" album. This song, considered to be one
of our best, has heretofore been unreleased and that is a shame. I
wanted to put out an album with this track, and at the same time, we got
another assignment for another "compilation" album. As we began to
record the new compilation song "Strange Cloud" we got caught up in
another composition called "Star Of Light" which has now grown and will
comprise the balance of 7½.

As we rehearse for our concert at 3RP, we are further exploring our
repertoire and enjoying the process of "figuring" out things we'd never
thought we would have to perform. As a result, I've started to look at
a whole group of earlier songs that have never been properly recorded.
I have decided to record several of these to comprise our next album
after we finish our gig in August. Many of those songs come from my
first "demo" album entitled "Friction" - which is a collection of some
great, quaint, naive, technologically challenged songs. That album is
not really "remixable" but several of the songs do deserve a new life
and I hope to give them that in the not too distant future.

I'm hopeful that we will also have a compendium album available for our
performance at 3RP. I've wanted to put out a collection for awhile,
mostly because there are some songs which I was either dissatisfied
with, or that I really loved that I wanted to give another venue.
People have favourite albums in our canon. There are some which people
seem to really love (Chupacabras, Ghost Story) and some that people
really don't care for (313, Great Leap). So, for this album, I'm hoping
to rescue some of the songs from the unloved albums and place them
alongside some key tracks from the beloved albums. (Beloved by me,
because after all, I'm really doing all of this for myself!) I am
crystalizing plans for a double album called "A Brief History Of Stuff
and Nonsense". This will feature the two sides of Phideaux: The
shorter, quippier, freak pop and the longer, pretentious regressive
rock. In some regards, I want another chance at some of these songs,
and also to put out some alternate versions, unreleased pieces and
single edits.

As it stands, here is the run down for "A Brief History..." By all
mean, let me know what you think and if you believe any songs are
missing, or are just too awful to have to endure on another disc! Both
of these cds will clock in somewhere around 75 minutes.

Here's the proposal:

*Stuff*

1. Little Monster (edit)
2. Sick Of Me (edit)
3. Tempest Of Mutiny (edit)
4. Thank You For The Evil (orchestral version)
5. What Would You Do? (unreleased outtake from "Ghost Story")
6. Have You Hugged Your Robot?
7. Rainboy (alternate vocal harmonies)
8. Vultures And Mosquitoes
9. Everynight (remix)
10. Fragment (new vocals/remix)
11. In The Sky (unreleased from 1995)
12. You And Me Against A World Of Pain (alternate with Valerie lead vocals)
13 Candybrain (extended new version)
14. Crumble
15. Kiteman
16. Titan
17. Gift Of The Flame (edit)

*Nonsense*

18. Microdeath Softstar /You And Me (outro) (edit/mash-up)
19. Never Gonna Go
20. Beyond The Shadow Of Doubt (remix)
21. Abducted
22. The Claws Of A Crayfish (edit/mash-up)
23. 100 Coda
24. Chupacabras (Get My Goat/Study & Review/The Gift)
25. Strange Cloud (orchestral version)
26. Remember Venus (unreleased outtake from "The Great Leap"
27. Fiendish

And so, I'm looking forward to some remixing and retooling once Gabe
finishes the 5.1 mix of Number Seven. We've just finished the stereo
mix and the artwork is happily humming along, so all is well in the
world of Phideaux.

As for "Infernal", it does look like 2010 for that. Maybe we should
wait until 2012 to coincide with the end of the Mayan calendar...

In my opinion Headstones is a must. Formaldehyde would also make the list in my opinion... The problem is I am not sure what tracks you would take out.... ...
