Hi,
Good news ! :o)
Yesterday, I listened a couple of times to "Tempest of Mutiny" on MySpace.
It's a very good long track, with some strong melodies and brilliant instrumental sections.
Apart from the rather dissonant and rather dirty-sounding guitar solo near the end (sorry...it's not what I prefer in guitar), I do like the song very much. A good contrast between delicate sections with some harpsichord-like textures and some more up-tempo parts. As always with what you do Phideaux, it's the melody that matters first but the arrangements are so rich and clever that it makes it all very special.
Nice to hear those Tull-esque flute parts, for instance !
Well done.
This is one reason to raise my interest in that concept-compilation album from Cypherarts.
I usually don't like too much
compilation but if I like some of the other band sinvolved, I might well buy this one ! .
I had heard about the "Colossus of Rhodes" from the same company but never heard the album until now.
Very nice to hear that the performance at the Crescendo festival in the west part of France is confirmed ! :o)
For once, a little place in France will have the chance to see the first performance of a great new band !!
I haven't got much idea for concerts... I don't dare to think about playing a venue in Paris at that time...Not only the venues are terribly expensive there, but you can't do anything in Paris around the summer months... It seems as if most people were on holidays, in August.
Maybe you'll get some insight from people living in Holland and Germany, yes.
They're a bit better thn aus for prog music (it's not difficult to do better than France as regards
this, by the way !)
A pity the now famous cult-venue in Belgium called The Spirit of 66 is closed in August.
The Great Leap is not in my Top 3 out of the 5 Phideaux albums that I own (hard to compare them anyway) but I still like the album.
Can't wait to hear "Doomsday afternoon".
Cheers - Marc

Hello folks and friends
I have a few things to tell you. First, we've been working on a new
song with producer Rich Mouser. He's worked with Spock's Beard, Neal
Morse and Dream Theater (as well as many others). Together we've done a
song called "Tempest Of Mutiny". This track is now on our
myspace.com/phideaux page. Take a listen and see what you think.
"Tempest Of Mutiny" will be released on an album called "Pirate Tales"
which accompanies a graphic novel/comic book of the same name. It is a
project of CypherArts. So, this will be the only place to get this
track -- until of course we put out our "Best Of" album :-)
Additionally, we are close to finishing our new album "Doomsday
Afternoon". This is very exciting news because I believe this album is
our most challenging and intricate work thus far. It was recorded at
the same time as "The Great Leap" and is part two of a projected trilogy
that will end with an album called "Infernal" (but that's likely to be
2009).
Meanwhile, we are going to perform live this summer in France at
Festival Crescendo. We'd like to play a few gigs leading up to that,
hopefully in Germany and Netherlands. If anyone has any ideas of where
we should play, or any German/Dutch band that we could share the bill
with, please let me know. From my command chair in Los Angeles, it is
hard to figure some of these intercontinental issues.
ANY help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Someone suggested
the club Spirit of 66 in Belgium, but they are closed in August. We are
looking to perform August 12 -16 as this leads up to the show in France.
Cheers for now and keep in touch. I hope everyone (who got a chance to
hear it) has enjoyed "The Great Leap". We are very pleased with that
album, and especially the artwork. You can expect a similar eye treat
with the new album. Molly Ruttan is painting the cover as we speak.
Cheers for now
Phideaux Xavier
