Hey Rob,
The way the rehearsals are working is modular. I'll be rehearsing
different bits with different folks.
Next weekend, the two keyboard players, Gabe and myself will sit down
with the multi-tracks and examine all the keyboard and/or
flute/theremin/cello parts. We will then determine which parts are
essential to the songs, and from which can we depart. Then, we'll
divide them up among the two keyboard players who will go away and learn
their bits. I'm set to fly to NYC to rehearse the structures with Rich
Hutchins. Later, in NYC, will converge bass player, myself, keyboards
and one or two of the guitarists.
The band, by the way, is as follows
Rich Hutchins - drums
Mathew Kennedy - bass
Gabriel Moffat - electric guitar
Joel Weinstein - electric guitar
Mark Sherkus - keyboards
Johnny Unicorn - keyboards, vocals
Ariel Farber - violin, vocals
Valerie Gracious - piano, vocals
Molly Ruttan - percussion, vocals
Linda Ruttan - percussion, vocals
Phideaux Xavier - acoustic guitar, vocals
Since we still haven't recorded the female vocals for Doomsday
Afternoon, when we do that, we will probably have a listen to the songs
we are going to do and highlight which bits the ladies will sing. In
some cases, the ladies will do textures that keyboards previously did.
Valerie and I will share lead vocals and divide the songs up in ways
that differ from the studio recordings.
As the modular rehearsals continue and we start to get somewhat in
shape, we'll probably undertake a full on rehearsal, or even a test gig
somewhere.
If anyone is listening who might want to sponsor a test gig...
As for Progday and all the festivals, we've definitely considered them.
They have not, as yet, considered us. I think we are too new for most
of the festivals to have taken notice of us. However, there are other
new bands which have drawn considerable interest (Pure Revolution and
Frost are two examples)
Anyway, sorry for the technical minutae. :-)
