Hi folks, me and a friend of mine were wondering what happened to the narrator in "Sick of Me". We were arguing whether something tangible happened like a betrayal of trust or if it's just that his self-image changed for whatever what reason to a very pessimistic view and he doesn't feel worthy being in a relationship with a partner that he regards much better a person. What do you think?

Wow, I would have liked to see Peter in his heyday. That song "The End"
is pretty astounding, and another solo piano song "The Lie" -- i think
that is what it is -- from Silent Something if the Corner (don't
remember the album title...).
I want to say that there is a performer named Matthew Parmenter who made
an album called "Astray". he was with a band, discipline. Anyway, his
album is shockingly good and there is a song that is powerful in the
same way.
check him out you won't be sorry.
Meanwhile, in Phideaux land, there is a new and pretty silly video up on
myspace.com/phideaux
it is from a show where I wore a dress and a wig -- a benefit with a
female roster and the curator wanted me to sing so she said i had to
wear a wig/dress. That was massively fun. i haven't had long hair
since i was a kid. anyway, it's me singing an acoustic version of "feel
the radiation" which was a song from "Ghost Story". This a pretty good
version of the song from an "unplugged" perspective.
anyway, we're fast at work finishing the new album. It looks on track
for a June release.

Scary really, but I remember hearing Peter's first session on the Peel
show in 1972. Well, more than remember, I had a tape of the session for
many years. Listening to the The End on solo piano kept me going
through the dark years (Yes, Genesis, and all the rest). Oh so many
memories since - Peter singing acapella in the Manchester International
1 after they turned off the power.

Box. That is such a cool and weird album and has a sidelong epic called
Flight which had either no drums, or very few.
I like some of his stuff very much, but haven't gotten that into him in
recent years, apart from the new VdgG album.

Oooh - I remember seeing Peter Hammill live in
Edinburgh in 1980-something. He was the support for
Marillion, as Fish had been a big fan as a teen.
It was at the time of the Enter K album - I borrowed
Fish's sister's copy and the songs 'Happy Hour' and
'Accident' haunt me to this day.
He was a class live act !

Hey Peter,
Yeah, I've been trying to get out there into myspace. btw, Phideaux can
be found on myspace.com/phideaux and we invite anyone who is on myspace
to drop a note and we'll link up.
Jim is currently working on updating ye olde bloodfish website and we
are also going to personalize the myspace space.
If anyone wants to read a german interview with me, check out
http://www.idioglossia.de/interviews.php?id=9
Mind you, I didn't actually speak the german words, but they
thoughtfully translated it for me. Very kind indeed! Now I'm going to
have to learn it (languages have always been my downfall! I've never
been very good at them)
by the way, if anyone is going to the Gouveia festival in portugal,
Matthew Parmenter will be playing. He is just the best songwriter!
Also playing is Peter Hammill from VandergraafGenerator. They were a
huge inspiration for me!

Time to break my duck on the list...
I really can't decide on the order as I'm still fairly
new to Ghost Story and Fiendish. I think it just
depends on my mood and can vary from one day to the
next.
Today I'd say:
1. 313
=2. Fiendish
=2. Chupacabras
3. Ghost Story
Last week it was:
1. Ghost Story
2. 313
=3. Fiendish
=3. Chupacabras
I'm a bit of a vacillator ;-)
But at the moment I'm just absolutely in love with
Never Gonna Go; the melody and the layering as it
builds just grab me by the nadgers and refuse to let
go.
Cheers !

Yippee, Glad I'm not alone on this line... Helleux Richard -- my amazing drummer
Which songs do I enjoy listening to most?
From "Fiendish" -- Soundblast is definitely one. I'd like the 5.1 mix of that! Sometimes Vultures & Mosquitoes. On "Ghost Story" -- Everynight, Curse Of Miracles, Universally/Come Out Tonight, Ghostforest. A friend subjected me to the album at a party at their house recently and I'd not heard it in awhile. I was very pleased. From "Chupacabras" -- Titan, From "313" -- Robot, Run Singing Tiger and the full new album "The Great Leap" over and over again and again and again as
we mix it... Every single freakin nuance needs to be heard and discussed over and over!!!!!!
That's the way when recording. You just listen to the new one. Honestly, it is hard to listen to the old ones once they are "out". Usually a year or two later they start to sound good again.
Challenging -- Chupacabras, the song. As Rich said, he had to overdub to a cruddy piano demo I did alone. It was never intended to be the song, but for various reasons we couldn't re-record it at the time. The whole new album because I was so out of practice I sucked so bad and it was just Rich on drums and me on guitar/piano as opposed to "313" sessions where there were other people to take up the slack in basic tracks. We did so many takes of stuff on the new album. Whole days had to be thrown out and redone. We entirely recorded our 45 minute suite "Doomsday Afternoon" and then I (sorry Rich) decided I'd recorded it
too fast. So we scrapped two days of recording basic tracks and redid it. Phew! I'm glad we did. It was a bear. But I'm pleased to say we got enough coverage and some of the songs I was worried about ended up with a great live energy.
How would you rank the Phideaux albums in terms of greatest to least great?
I'm happiest with ... "The Great Leap" "313" "Ghost Story" "Chupacabras" "Fiendish" The end!
And as Rich said, "the upcoming 2 cds - i used a 60's ludwig kit.... most happy with sound, plus we 'rocked' harder than usual..."
We definitely did rock harder! Yay
Which song or songs are you most happy with in terms of how you sound on it?
What makes me happy in terms of my "sound" is my voice. I like the way it sounds in the song "chupacabras", "everynight", "universally/come out tonight" and "You and Me Against A World Of Pain" from the new one...
Wow, fun questions... I love to talk about ME! HAHAHA, just kidding.
Cheers to Rich -- we are mixing the final two songs -- Tannis Root and One STar. I think you're going to be happy.

Thanx Phideaux. It's indeed a tough job to get them, but I'm doing
pretty well with Temple of the cat, and the rare albums/singles from
Ambeon, Anthony and Strange Hobby.
You need indeed a LOT of patience, but as being a huge fan, I don't
care ;-)
In another post I mentioned my list (ofcourse I can give you a more
detailed one). Take in mind, that I became a fan from Ayreon in
summer 2002, so I'm less then 4 years addicted with the A-virus, but
already got nearly all his work... (no Vengeance and Bodine for me)
I like the 2004 version over de original one from Actual Fantasy.
Because I got a 5.1 surround soundsystem, it really makes sense! (and
ofcourse the DVD contains the original edition, so I DO listen that
one too sometimes).
The Ayreon albums are mood-albums to me, so I often listen to the one
which fits best to my mood. This could also be Ambeon/Anthony/Star
One/Stream of Passion or Strange Hobby.
Maybe once I will explain a bit more about the albums, but I've no
time for it now...

Hi Jim,
I understand your double-album... Well I really do like it, it's just
another part of the story, so if I start the first disc, I DO listen
the second one as well (I got the 'bad' habbit of ALWAYS listening to
a whole album. I really don't know how to shuffle my stereoplayer...)
You're true about the attractive differences between TDS and FotM;
it's very good combination IMO.
Some people asked me before what are my favourite Ayreon albums
and/or songs... Well I should write down 100 tracks to make my top-
list and every album has its own special touch. So I won't annoy you
with my toplist ;-)
Yeah, it's hard to get the albums. Luckely internet helps in these
cases.
I got now all original Ayreon albums (only the most well-known Actual
Fantasy album with 10 song instead of 8 + 1 videoclip; so I'm still
searching for that one), I got all re-issues from 2004/2005, I got
the following singles: Day 11: Love, Loser, Come back to me and
Temple of the cat. I'm also trying to get the single The stranger
from within. And I got Ayeronauts Only, with rare versions of tracks
from previous albums.
I got the Ambeon album as well the Ambeon single. I own the most
special editions from Star One: Space metal and Live on earth. I do
also have the album from Anthony (already from 1993) and 2 singles
from Anthony (I'm still searching for Little miss understood).
I do have the Strange Hobby single, and I'm busy searching for the
1996-album. Last but not least I own 3 versions of the Stream of
Passion album Embrace the storm, and also the newest SoP-single.
That's it I guess... All these discs makes 50% out of my whole
original-CD collection ;-)
Hehe, it's funny that you found out about Micheal Romeo ;-) So
you're an huge Symphony X fan too??
Talking about guitarplaying... I really dig Lori's work. Whoohaaaah,
she's fabulous!

:-) I'm safe from a double-disc from you? As Jerri Blank so
eloquently put it: "GET out of the KIDDIE pooool...TAKE a DIP in the
DANGER zoooone!" Heh heh, YOU guys could do a quadRUPLE album and I'D
still beg for more.
And I TOTALLY prefer the original Actual Fantasy over AF
Revisited...For ONE thing, I feel like there's a bee buzzing all
around my head when I try to listen to Revisited, and it sounds very
cluttered and screwed up in certain parts to me, as though the
recording equipment were damaged. I'm sure I'd love Revisited if I
hadn't already become intimately familiar/entwined with the original
AF, but that just isn't the case here.:-)

Hey Rob,
When I wrote "double album," I was actually referring to "The Human
Equation" and "Into the Electric Castle," in that I have trouble
getting into those because of their double-disc nature -- that's why I
referred to the Universal Migrator albums a combo--not as "big" a
word, and I bought them separately, myself, around the time "Flight of
the Migrator" was initially released (The Dream Sequencer was the
first Ayreon CD I bought, thanks to Phideaux's recommendation, and it
was HELL waiting for the rest of his CDs to come in, as I had to get
them imported at the time). I just don't tend to have the attention
span to follow along with double albums, which I guess is why I'm not
as fond of "Into the Electric Castle" and "The Human Equation" as AF,
TDS, and TFE. I think the fact that TDS and FOTM are totally
different styles is probably what allows me to listen to them back to
back and not lose interest.
Heh heh, as for your not having any favorites: That's cool...I
just happen to have DEFINITE favorites, myself. Regarding favorite
Ayreon songs: My very favorite is a three-way tie between Beyond the
Last Horizon, The Last Man on Earth, and Dawn of a Million Souls
(Michael Romeo's guitar work on that is just ASTOUNDING--that's
probably the most impressive and mind-boggling soloing I've ever
heard! I'd always assumed Arjen was the one who played it, until I
asked him why he skipped the solos for it on the Star One DVD, and he
informed me that he COULDN'T play it, and that it was Michael Romeo

Good luck finding the singles of Ayreon Rob. I've been trying to get
my hands on some of them for awhile now -- with no luck. I wonder
whether Jim likes the 2004 version of Actual Fantasy or the original?
My fave is still Electric Castle and Dream Sequencer, although "Dawn Of
A Million Souls" is one of my favourite songs ever.
Meanwhile in phideax land, there were three great reviews written about
our three most recent albums from DisAgreement - underground music
e-zine from Luxembourg.
I am
most appreciative of this good press. Right now, Molly Ruttan-Moffat
is creating an advertisment to put into a progressive rock magazine.
Hopefully that will bring some new ears to our music.
cheers

p.s. Jim, you're safe from a double disc from us for the time being...

Well, double-album is probably a too big word for it...
They were sold on their own (more for the case if one of them would
flop), but indeed at the same moment. Arjen made them on purpose
with different styles, to have an album for the proggers and one
album for the metal-guys... But it's indeed at both albums about the
travelling through time and space and there is indeed a Part 1 and
Part 2 (but this doesn't mean always that it is a double-album).
After some years, Arjen noticed that both albums sold about the same
amount of copies. In 2004 InsideOut put both albums together in one
casing, to celebrate Ayreon's 10th B-day.
Sorry for the rambling about Ayreon, Phideaux...
I'd better stop ;-)
Cheerio,
Rob
Ps. I don't have a favourite Ayreon-album or even a favourite song.
It often depends on my mood. Sometimes I really dig ITEC, but some

Heh heh, I love "Actual Fantasy" and "The Dream Sequencer" the most
out of Arjen's works, with "The Final Experiment" being a pretty close
second (or third, depending on how you see it). I've never been very
good with double albums, myself, although I do love the Dream
Sequencer/Flight of the Migrator combo, and if Phideaux ever puts out
a double-disc album, I know I'll find myself pigging out on that like
there's no tomorrow.:-)

Hi Evan and others,
I really love Arjen's work. And Stream of Passion is soo great too
(I'm soo glad that I managed to see 2 shows). Elfonía is very special,
but these albums are really growing on me. Great music too!

I got nearly ALL Arjen's work at the moment, but I'm trying to get the
most rarest stuff (singles) now. I'm glad to have some Ayreon-fans as
well in here. Enjoy your flight ;-)

Hmm... I too am a big fan of Ayreon. "Into The Electric Castle" was my first Ayreon purchase and because of that album, I will continue to snap up anything Arjen Lucassen produces in hopes that he will at least equal, if not surpass, that amazing work. (So far he hasn't, imo, but I have faith.)

Thanks for the welcome, Phideaux and Jim. I'm glad to be part of this Group...
I'm a 19-year-young guy from the Netherlands and a huge fan from Ayreon and Stream of Passion. Through the Ayreon Yahoogroup, I became in contact with Phideaux and his cool music. So that's why I'm here... I won't post that much, I guess, though I hope this will become a great Group too ;-)
Good luck to ya all and see
you. Ciao, Rob

Chupacabras - Goat Sucker! hahaha, it's like Goats Head Soup for the
new millennium. At any rate, i wouldn't want to meet one in the woods.
Welcome Rob and Mathew and all. I am on that Ayreon list as well Rob.
I love Arjen's music. Particularly the "epic" stuff of Ayreon. Star
One has some GREAT stomping chorus-songs that I just can't get out of my
head. Stream Of Passion has grown on me and although I'm partial to
some Elfonia (from which Marcela the singer hails) I am hoping for a new
Ayreon album when Arjen gets back to making music after his triumphant tour.
Don't worry about posting. Lurkers are people too.
Honestly, Jim and I thought this would be a good way to keep people
abreast of developments and try to maximize our profile on this planet.
I know there are 27,000 excellent albums that are out there and ours are
but a drip from the tap. So, how do you get the word out and hear what
people liked and didn't like.
Someday, hopefully we'll have a reason to play live and tour! (hear
that Rich and Val and Ariel?)
Cheers for now,
phideaux

Feel free to create your own topics and discuss what's on your mind
(ideally, it'll be somehow Phideaux related, but no one's gonna give
you flack if you feel the need to vent or muse or ramble about other
issues). Sorry for the inconvenience of having to be "approved" to
get in, but this ensures that we won't have a bunch of spam to contend
with. Enjoy yourselves! Phideaux will be checking in fairly
routinely to join in on various discussions, so feel free to post
questions for him!
