I know it’s been a long time since I’ve written about a show and I wished I had
more time to write. Before I left home earlier tonight I went through my
closet for a Podunk shirt to wear and decided on the first one I ever owned,
it’s one from the "throwin’ bones" era. Podunk didn’t use a set list tonight
as has been the case with most of their shows for a couple of years and I
didn’t write down the songs as they were played. They started their set as
they have most of the times I’ve seen them the past few years with "Killing
Day". While they were playing the song I remembered what day it was and I
thought back three years ago. Podunk was the first band I saw after that
fateful day in 2001. It was three days later on Friday. This Yahoo! Group was
a Yahoo! Club then. When the Club got converted to a Group some things didn’t
convert well so the messages I posted about that show have lost some of the
formatting and the set list is all bunched together in the first message and
the lyrics in the second message:

As I read through those messages it all came back to me like it was yesterday.
Earlier tonight after several songs (how many I don’t know) Jason asked Dwight
to join them on drums for the next song. Then (I think it was) Taxi got on
stage and Jason said that all the Matchbox family should join them so along
came Danny. They started the music to "Better Days" and I heard one of them
say, "Steamroller". Back in the days of Matchbox Records, owned by Dwight
Baker and Paul Soroski, there were three bands that recorded and released
albums/CDs: Podunk was first, then Cadillac Voodoo Choir which is the band that
Taxi and Danny were in when I met them and third was Steamroller. Cadillac
Voodoo Choir performed their "last" show in January 2001 but a couple of the
guys have revived the band and now are in Houston. A couple years ago
Steamroller decided to not perform as much and devote their time to their
families. Now they play a couple times a year and I saw them last night. Just
earlier this week I was thinking about the old Matchbox Records studio/office.
Kinda funny that it came up at the show tonight. While Podunk & the Matchbox
Family were playing "Better Days" tonight I remembered what I thought about
that song 3 years ago. I went through the Yahoo! Group’s Photo Albums hoping
that I took pictures that night but I didn’t, or maybe I did. My computer got
a virus sometime between then and now and the hard drive had to be reformatted
so there aren’t very many Podunk photos on my hard drive but it’s possible that
I have a photo CD from that night. Maybe sometime I will have the time to go
through all those photo CDs I have. After tonight’s show I spoke with Jason
and we remembered that night at the Metro and the flag...one vision I won’t
forget.
Just before I started typing this I wondered if I wore this shirt that night,
hmm.
God Bless,
Doreen
