December 2011

Djam Karet's new label Firepool Records has just released 2 new ALL instrumental CDs from most of the current members of Djam Karet:

Henderson/Oken - Dream Theory In The IE

Hillmen - The Whiskey Mountain Sessions

Dream Theory In The IE is by two of the founding members of Djam Karet, Mike Henderson & Chuck Oken, Jr. It is a 76 minute journey of improvised, live acoustic and electric music, created by 2 friends who have played in the collective hands of the Firepool for over 30 years. A strictly Limited Edition of 500, Henderson/Oken - Dream Theory In The IE is a plethora of guitars, keyboards, percussion, and treatments -- a true homage to the Inland Empire and the Djam Karet musical box.

The Whiskey Mountain Sessions is by the group Hillmen, a DK off-shoot. This album contains 43 minutes of instrumental Jazz-Rock/Fusion with Psychedelic influences. Totally improvised, the music features spacey atmospherics, strong grooves, soaring melodies and wailing solos, all wrapped up in a highly dynamic and crystal clear production. A strictly Limited Edition of 500. With Djam Karet members Gayle Ellett (Hammond organ and Rhodes piano) and Mike Murray (guitars), along with master drummer Peter Hillman and Ralph Rivers (bass). Rooted in Jazz and Fusion music from the 1960's and 1970's with more modern sensibilities added in, they have created a new hybrid style that is uniquely their own.

Sound samples, images and more from the above or below is accessible via the Djam Karet website or via the direct links below.

http://www.djamkaret.com/firepoolrecords/hendersonoken/

http://www.djamkaret.com/firepoolrecords/hillmen/

http://www.djamkaret.com/firepoolrecords/herdofinstinct/

Just a reminder that earlier in the year, Herd of Instinct's self-titled debut CD was released on Djam Karet's label Firepool Records to glowing acclaim. Truly for fans of King Crimson, Steve Tibbetts, Djam Karet and the big picture music, special guests on this album include Djam Karet's own Gayle Ellett, Pat Mastelotto (King Crimson), Jerry Marotta (Peter Gabriel), Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree), and Markus Reuter (Centrozoon).  GUITAR PLAYER Magazine described it as "A heady melange of avant-prog spiced with dashes of ambient, symphonic, metallic, and world musics, and topped with a dollop of pop."

Thanks for your time!

Gayle Ellett & Chuck Oken, jr

for Djam Karet/Firepool Records

On Eddie Jobson's Zealots lounge I found the following message:

NIGHT AFTER NIGHT 2012
I can now confirm the rumour that I have reformed the UK trio - Jobson - Wetton - and Bozzio - for a one-off world tour, April-June 2012. No gigs are confirmed yet, but I am working on 30 cities around the world (with profound apologies to the VIZs who try to attend every gig I play!).

Anyone else watch the FX show "The League"? It's a comedy show
about a bunch of guys in a fantasy football league. In last
night's episode, one guy finds out that a local religious cult
called "The Light of Genesis" has access to a lot of insider
info about the NFL, so he pretends to join.

The somewhat dim-witted character, Taco, thinks it's a cult that
worships the band Genesis. He decides to try it on his own, and
at one point says something about thinking his problems over
while listening to ABACAB.

At the end of the show, Taco finds what he's been looking for and
says "Praise be to Phil Collins, Tony Banks and, to a lesser
degree, Mike Rutherford. I forgive you guys for 'We Can't Dance'."

And not to look into it too much (because a progressive rock fan wouldn't do
that), but there is a Genesis song called "The Light" which was only played a
few times in 1971. It is a very embryonic version of "Lillywhite Lillith" that
runs about ten minutes. Amusingly enough, Tony Banks actually denied that it
existed, until an abysmal sounding bootleg ("Beside the Silent Mirror" for those
interested in searching it out - it's pretty easy to find it on download sites)
surfaced.

PROG TWOSDAY BRINGS TWO RELEASES FROM
KEYBOARDIST LISA LaRUE

For immediate release - January 2, 2012

Los Angeles, CA - Progressive Rock keyboardist Lisa LaRue announces a special
day at this beginning of the monumental year, 2012. On the first Tuesday of the
year, January 3, 2011, LaRue will release two CD's.

First on the slate is "The Lisa LaRue Collection" which is a compilation of
tracks from LaRue's previous albums over the last 16 years, including "That Ol
Sofkee Spoon," "Ama," "Transformation 2012," "World Class" and "Fast and Blue."

"With each CD release, more and more people have become aware of my music and
concept albums, and are intrigued. Desiring to hear previous work, the idea of
a `collection' of the catalog seemed a logical release," LaRue stated. The CD
contains samplings of her solo work as well as work with musicians such as
Native American flutist John "Yafke" Timothy, John Payne (Asia featuring John
Payne) and Michael Sadler (Saga). It also includes the track "256 Leagues Above
New Orleans," nominated for a Hollywood Music Award as "Best Instrumental Song
of the Year" in 2008, and work with her band Lisa LaRue 2KX, nominated as "Best
Instrumental Artist of the Year" at the 21st Annual Los Angeles Music Awards.

The second release on Prog Twosday is a remastered, redesigned package of the
2008 release, "Transformation 2012." The disc includes a previously unreleased
`bonus track.'

"The beginning of 2012 affords the perfect opportunity to bring this album back
to the attention of the music community. `Transformation 2012' follows the
concept held by the Mayan elders and others that this year brings many
transformational events to the world, including the story line of the end of a
long war, which we are currently seeing," stated LaRue.

While many people see the end of the Mayan calendar on December 21, 2012 as
`doom and gloom' and the possible end of the world, the Native elders teach that
it simply is a transitional period where the world as we know it changes into a
`new' world existence.

Reviews from the original release of Transformation 2012 included the following:

"She rather resembles a gentle "Rick Wakeman", avoiding the use of bombastic
keyboards and emphasizing the arrangements." –Sea of Tranquility

"LaRue is an accomplished progressive stylist in the Rick Wakeman vein who
obviously knows a thing or two about blending American Indian motifs with
symphonic prog." –Progression Magazine

"A strong highlight on this CD is one of the most intriguing drum solos I have
ever heard. . . Very few artists are "in tune" with themselves and the
surroundings that have molded them to be what they are presently. Lisa, whether
subconsciously or in full cognitive grips, has channeled her influences, both in
music and in mind." –The Prog Files

Both albums will be available through LaRue's website at
http://www.lisalaruemusic.com and on the Lisa LaRue ReverbNation site at
http://www.reverbnation.com/lisalarue on Tuesday, January 3, 2011 and will
follow with availability on other sites such as Amazon, iTunes after release.
