*****OUR HOT PICKS FOR THE
WEEK:

METHOD OF DEFIANCE "INAMORATA"
Bill Laswell enlists influential musicians Herbie Hancock, Pharoah
Sanders, Buckethead, John Zorn, and others in collaborating with the cream of the
drum n bass crop - represented by Evol Intent, Paradox, Submerged, Black Empire,
Fanu, and others, to create a memorable masterpiece. Electronics vs. musicians
in an unforgettable journey through uncharted territories.
Method of Defiance is Bill Laswell's newest super group - drum n
bass/electronic beat meets flesh and blood musicians. Inamorata is possibly one of his
most ambitious projects in a prolific career that has included producing
Grammy
winning albums and singles for Herbie Hancock – who makes an appearance
here on electric piano, playing over Paradox breaks. All in all, 12 beatsmiths
were commissioned from the top tiers of drum n bass – including Black Sun
Empire, Evol Intent, Submerged, new wunderkinds Amit, and Fanu, and also
Metalheadz stalwarts Outrage and DStar.
Musicians were selected from the Miles Davis era of electronic fusion
(Pete Cosey, Dave Liebman) to modern virtuosos such as Buckethead and Nils Petr
Molvaer. The world of free jazz and avant composition weighs in
throughout, with John Zorn and the Masada Strings, Toshinori Kondo, and legendary tenor
player Pharoah Sanders.
The concept of combining electronic beatmasters and virtuostic players
has
yielded an unforgettable masterpiece – a dark vortex of electronics and musicians blending into an infinitely listenable journey. Released on Ohm
Resistance and available September 25th, 2007.

YELWORC "ICOLATION"
yelworC has been a source of inspiration for many bands and is almost
historical on the electro-industrial music scene. With the new album Icolation,
yelworC continues the themes explored in his last album, Trinity. Drawing
influence from Dante's Inferno, Icolation takes the listener on a journey of the damned,
from darkest hell straight to an apocalyptic purgatory. The music is as hard,
twisted and complex as before - a synthesis of strong, vital rhythms and darkest
melodic compositions. Darker than dark, harder than hard - but always featuring
that surprising and patented twisted Yelworc sound. The master of evil
electronics has returned, and has brought the very sounds of Hell with him.

SNOG "THE LAST DAYS OF ROME - LIMITED EDITION AUSSIE
VERSION"
As should be obvious to any erudite observer there are no parallels here
with the contemporary world stage at all. And so it is that Snog turn their
back on their most recent outings of barbed satirical electro-punk and instead
offer a new brand new album of historical narratives and charming tone poems set
in palatable electro-pop surroundings, The Last Days Of Rome. The album
opens
with the epic majesty of 'One Grain Of Sand', an ode to the pyramid builders
of
ancient Egypt and an excellent place to begin our journey. Our title
track
follows with its grinding beats and tumultuous slave-galley motifs. The
third track on the album 'Lost At Sea' tells the quaint tale of a group of
reckless pirates who jettison their map overboard and find themselves perilously
close to the rocks. Will they survive ...or will that hungry maiden the ocean
devour them? Again any fevered imaginings of a comparison to current events
would
be the height of foolishness. Track four 'It's All Lies' bears no connection
to today's responsible global citizens known as the mass media
conglomerates,
instead it is a parable told from the point of view of a Roman centurion
who witnesses the dust of an enemy infantry approach but dare not believe the
end is nigh. 'City' does not carp on about contemporary urban alienation and disenfranchisement but actually tells the heroic story of those
visionaries who built the great middle ages city of London out of the most picturesque
pre-loved timber available and cluttered its streets with refuse in a bold attempt
to kick-start what is today known as urban renewal. And so it goes. Other highlights include the heartfelt metropolitan psalm 'Christmas Everyday'
and the tender down-under nursery rhyme 'Go To Sleep (Little Australia)'. All
these pieces are skillfully presented in the agitated and rhythmic manner that
today's youth find so attractive yet they are also carefully crafted so as to
never actually say anything at all thus avoiding any needlessly dangerous or uncomfortable moments. After almost forty live dates around the USA,
Europe, Russia and Australia in 2006 Snog return to the recording studio in 2007
(unlike the Romans of which they sing) victorious. Produced by The Calculators
(The Faint, Adalita) and recorded in Melbourne, Australia and Renswoude, The Netherlands 2007 AD. Released on Psy-Harmonics and available September
28th, 2007.

ACUMEN NATION "PSYCHO THE RAPIST"
4-piece industrial-metal juggernaut from Chicago Acumen Nation are back
with their 8th studio album, "Psycho the Rapist". Often heralded as
innovators of the original Coldwave music movement of the 90's, Acumen Nation has powered
their music towards the violent aspects of metal and drum n bass in the process
of expanding their horizons. The 2006 release of "Anticore" found
the Nation at their metal best, the most political and scathing album the band released
to date. Small US tours with KMFDM and Frontline Assembly behind them,
principal songwriter Jason Novak felt a strong reconnection to the industrial scene
that helped to build them, and entered the studio in December of 2006 with a
new urgency. The result is a mad, twisted concept album dealing with the
horrors of the medical industry, the deluge of pharmaceutical drugs, and the darkest
corners of the mind... also by far the most electronic, and industrial
album the Nation has released in years. This album will unite the old school and
new
school Acumen fan, the ones blazing the coldwave tunes of yesteryear with
the metal/jungle fans of the present. Released on Crack nation and available
October 15th, 2007.

DJ? ACUCRACK "HUMANOIDS FROM THE DEEP"
Chicago's dark and dangerous duo are back with a frightening dose of drum
n bass, breakbeat and industrial soundscapes. Recent tours with KMFDM and Frontline Assembly ramped up the exposure and attention for their last
two
albums "Killing Mobius" and "Mako Vs Geist" One of
the
few electronic artists to succcessfully fuse industrial elements with top-notch jungle production,
DJ? Acucrack has worked hard over the years to cross the streams and build a
fanbase of electronic music fans who don't feel the need to be pigeonholed. The
new album "Humanoids From the Deep" harkens back to the more
eclectic offerings from Acucrack, and features Dean Garcia of Curve on several tracks. Grinding
noise, fearsome subs, machine gun lyrics and pummeling beats share space with
haunting melodies and otherworldly atmospheres, all tied with a bloody bow paying
homage to the classic horror movie genre. Fearsome and dark,
"Humanoids" is easily the most industrial-slanted Acucrack offering in years. Released on Crack
nation and available October 15th, 2007.

DIARY OF DREAMS "NEKROLOG 43"
After nearly three years of silence, Diary of Dreams triumphantly returns
with Nekrolog 43. Once again DoD mastermind Adrian Hates deftly mixes elements
of electronic, rock, goth, and EBM into a sound that is completely
distinctive. Diary of Dreams continues to raise the bar for others, and from the
opening moments of the title track and the distinctive hooks of "The
Plague" to the closing notes of "The Valley", Nekrolog 43 masterfully blends
electronic atmospheres and rhythms with Adrian's distinctively stunning voice to
powerfully convey the emotions of the music. Adrian described the newest Diary of
Dreams output as a having strong emphasis on extremes. "I really believe in
the uncompromising power of the new tracks", he said.

ASHBURY HEIGHTS "THREE CHEERS FOR THE NEWLY
DEADS"
Fresh, forceful, melodic … and blazing hot! With a busload of catchy
tunes, an inexhaustible energy and an irresistible mix of coolness and lascivious
glamour, the Swedish duo hits it right on the spot. The pumping grooves and the enthralling alternating male and female vocals bring back fond memories
of
the golden days of the Futurist- and New Romantic movements of the Eighties
and bands like Human League in their prime … yet the band's grand scale sound
is firmly rooted in the here and now. Mixed by production wizard John Fryer
(Nine Inch Nails, HIM, Depeche Mode, to name but a few…), the album contains
the
two club hits "Cry Havoc" and "Penance" … two songs that
have managed to generate a massive level of interest in Ashbury Height's debut even before it is
released. The Swedish duo has managed to produce an album that can be categorized
as
Pop music without bearing any of the usual negative connotations in mind… are
rare feat, these days. This is music with complex melodies that you can still
sing along to, with fat beats and massive bass that virtually force you to
dance and with an emotionality that will inevitably have you hooked. Ashbury
Heights
bring the glam factor back into electronic music … therefore: "Cry Havoc,
Baby!". Released on Out Of Line and available October 19th, 2007.

LAST DAYS "THESE PLACES ARE NOW
RUINS"
Last Days' follow up to 2006's "Sea" "These Places Are Now
Ruins" is by the artist's admission a personal journey about revisiting the past and
accepting the present is something we can all truly identify with. The album tells,
strictly through feelings, of expectations, disappointments, distance,
and
the futility of attempting to reclaim lost memories. "These Places Are
Now Ruins" is not so much a concept as "Sea" but instead a loosely
chronological album documenting thoughts and emotions experienced when returning home after
having moved away. The result is often dark and abstract when recalling fears or
memories we can't forget but also touching on moments when one explores
hopes for the future and the impact loved ones and special times have had on
our
lives. Last Days' sound remains at times cinematic yet slightly lo-fi and
now features more live instrumentation giving "These Places Are Now
Ruins" a wider diversity and more fullness of sound. Few things stay the same and those
things we wish would change never do. "These Places Are Now Ruins"
examines theses themes and over its duration accepts that it is sometimes best for us all
to leave the past where it is… Released on n5MD and available October 20th,
2007.

15 DEGREES BELOW ZERO "BETWEEN CHECKS &
ARTILLERY,
BETWEEN WORK & IMAGE"
A trio from San Francisco composed of Daniel Blomquist, Mark Wilson and
Michael Addison Mersereau, 15 DEGREES BELOW ZERO, with previous releases in CD or
CDR format on the FORCE OF NATURE and CRUNCH POD labels, brings us their
first
production in vinyl format. It is comprised of 2 exclusive tracks, on
10''
vinyl, released on the Montreal based label .ANGLE.REC., still fond of
the
vinyl disc. 2 tracks which suggest an even more brilliant and exploded future
for this exploratory vehicle born on the ashes of the famous IMPERIAL FLORAL
ASSAULT UNIT project. The trio's most recent CD, ''Under A Morphine Sky'', offered a well-balanced perspective between improvisation and composition, a sound
alchemy that is realized without any pretension under a purple and…of course…
morphined sky. Power-Electronics in symbiosis with Dark-ambient in symbiosis with Guitar-Noise in symbiosis with various layered and shifting acoustic and electronic elements …The result and the overall feel were stunning. This 10incher is the log ical follow-up to the madness. 2 face(t)s, 2 slices
of
life. A side, ''KRONOS'', proposes us a guitar-based canvas with multiples
effects and spacious microworlds, with an accelerating insanity and intensity, an 8-9
minute segment which flies like the wind. It can also be considered as an
extrapolation on the last minutes of ''THE RETURNING'', found on B Side; ''THE
RETURNING'' begins with an epic lo-fi martial/neoclassical/doom segment but rather
soon, haunting post-rock/shoegaze guitar-based structures come to occupy the
main stage, and the power electronics segment also turns up very quickly
following that, the whole being accomplished with a constant mastery and concern
for
texture. It is chaotic, foggy buy damned melodic and moving …and it does
not stop gaining in intensity. Towards the final segment, we have samples and
then a melodic guitar-based motif with a healthy dose of echo, which
reverberates
while consuming itself, till the end … 15DBZ has crazy surprises in store for
us. Discover why, now. Many ambiences and textures on this 10'' remind us of
the reasons why we got interested, in the first place, in various
''nocturnal'' and/or ''subterranean'' musical universes. The beauty of it all is that
here, everything is presented in condensed fashion. 2 tracks which fly too fast
despite their relative length. Another welcome add to the .ANGLE.REC.
vinyl series. Available September 30th, 2007.

EMILIE AUTUMN "ENCHANT LIMITED +
BOOK"
NOW SHIPPING!!
At long last! Nearly one year after the release of "Opheliac",
an album which firmly cemented EMILIE AUTUMN's position in the forefront of the gothic-industrial music genre, as well as her classical/metal violin
album
"Laced/Unlaced", the musical prodigy takes us back to the music
that started it all, her 2002 debut album, "Enchant". Written while still in
her
teens, "Enchant" shows us the many different styles EMILIE AUTUMN
toyed
with before she became today's gothic voice and the poster child for girls who get
revenge. Haunting melodies, dazzling violin and piano performances, and stunningly
mature lyrics show a more optimistic EMILIE AUTUMN, while the simmering anger
buried in many of "Enchant"s songs only hints at what was soon to follow.
With "Enchant", EMILIE AUTUMN has accomplished something quite extraordinary, going down
in cult album history and leaving the listener impressed by the beauty of the
music and overwhelmed by the unique talent of EMILIE AUTUMN. It is no wonder that
many feel EMILIE AUTUMN truly walks on holy ground! Released on Trisol.

EMILIE AUTUMN "A BIT O' THIS & THAT - LIMITED +
BOOK"
NOW SHIPPING!!
Written and recorded over the period spanning early adolescence to the
present day, "A Bit o' This & That" is the ultimate collection and
must-have for all fans of music's most compelling eccentric, EMILIE AUTUMN. What
discography
could be complete without a compilation of ancient b-sides and rarities, not to
mention the occasional cover tune recorded whilst sitting in bed? On
"A Bit o' This & That", the classical violin prodigy and collaborator with
artists such as COURTNEY LOVE and BILLY CORGAN shares her bizarre and wonderful sense of
whimsy, covering songs from Broadway musicals, BBC television shows, and THE
SMITHS, while showing off a ridiculously large vocal range in her own operatic compositions, and followed by the strangest offering of all, a truly
original take on "The Star Spangled Banner". In all of "A Bit o'
This & That"s sublime ridiculousness, the listener becomes instantly aware that EMILIE AUTUMN
is
not always the dark and brooding soul she seems, and that her sense of humour
as well as her ability to not take herself too seriously is one of her
greatest charms. With this collection of remixes, b-sides and rarities, EMILIE
AUTUMN tosses her talent-packed gems our way, and, while one can not help but
wonder just how many multiple personalities EMILIE AUTUMN has, we welcome and
delight in them all. "A Bit o' This & That" is simply a
picture-perfect collection for those who wish to catch a more profound glimpse into the wonderfully
strange and multifaceted world of EMILIE AUTUMN.
