*****OUR HOT PICKS FOR THE WEEK:

DE/VISION "DA MALS (WORST OF)"
In 1988, the band De/Vision still consisted of members Markus, Stefan, Steffen and Thomas. Puns and word jokes were order of the day. Statements in interviews that De/Vision has something to do with division, that they chose the letter 'D' to be found on the same CD shelf as Depeche Mode and the conclusion that 'Best of's' are rather subjective compilations, eventually lead to the album title 'Da * Mals (worst of)' with songs from the years 1988 - 1992.

As regards to the CD's contents, it's about the beginning of De/Vision, the first recordings of the band. In 1990, they ensconced themselves in a small living room, also called studio, close to Gießen to accept an all-inclusive offer for production of a vinyl maxi single. Songs like 'Your hands on my skin', 'Ignore me', 'You want to kill me' and the 'Skin mix' were results of this production. The vinyl is no longer available and only in the hands of a few fans
.
Their next visit to a studio was in 1991 - Stefan has already left the band - and this time it was more official because they went to the Atom-H Studio in Dusseldorf where 'Die Krupps' assisted them with the recordings. This all resulted in the songs 'Boy on the street', 'The scenery deludes', 'What we have to learn', 'Plight' as well as a real maxi version (it hardly exists anymore these days) of 'Boy on the street'. For all those who always wanted to know how De/Vision started, to experience soft techno music (today it is called Old-School-Synthpop) of the early 90s, how De/Vision sounds without producer and why it was so difficult for De/Vision in their infancy, we recommend (but not only to those curious) this release. Released on Synthetic Product and available October 31st, 2007.

1. Try to forget (Demo Try)
2. Ignore me
3. You want to kill me
4. Skin Mix
5. Boy On The Street (Hello-high-mix)
6. The Scenery Deludes (Tranquilizer-mix)
7. Plight (SOS-mix)
8. What We Have To Learn (Faster-mix)
9. Boy On The Street (Disjointed-mix)
10. Your hands on my skin (Ur-Version)
11. Always proved

--- Bonus CD ---

With the first edition, there also comes a CD with the work of De/Vision ex-member Stefan Blender who left the band in 1991. Under the name of 'Sequence 2', you get to hear some song samples that please every synthpop fan. Stefan Blender and Lorenz Macke (Synthetic Product Records) were pen pals at the beginning and encouraged the project De/Vision 20 years ago. With the 50th release at the label Synthetic Product Records (15 years after the first release) Stefan Blender will finally be appreciated at least a bit. The unfinished ideas of the solo project 'Sequence 2' should not be withheld from the public any more. A very special feature is the song 'Tears of missing days' based on a tape recording of 1988.

NEAR THE PARENTHESIS "OF SOFT CONSTRUCTION"
San Francisco based musician Tim Arndt brings his Near the Parenthesis project to n5MD with the release of his second album "Of Soft Construction." This sophomore effort finds Arndt luring his potent song writing capabilities to the forefront yielding something truly exceptional. Spiraling piano sonnets are juxtaposed against sweeping cascades of grainy synthwashes and agile, yet carefully executed, beat-work. Add in an occasional mid radio station listen-in on a seemingly unfinished conversation and you have an idea of "Of Soft Construction's" perfected audible DNA. Near the Parenthesis has proven that he is yet another artist to capture the n5MD ethos in its truest most honest form. Released on n5MD and available November 6th, 2007.

HOLOGRAM "HOLOGRAM +"
Hologram makes its North American debut via the n5MD imprint with their album "hologram +." "hologram +" melds together detailed post-rock instrumentation, subtle electronic textures, and thoughtful, yet meaningful, female vocals. While their carefully crafted songs may seem a bit out of place on a label founded on emotional electronics, upon further listens one finds that they are right at home amongst such kindred spirits as label-mates lights out asia and bitcrush. Hologram's direction reflects an original take on familiar genre themes, but pushes way beyond specific genre trappings by tossing aside the clichés and commonality to focus on the raw emotion involved in creating music. Hologram is exclusively licensed outside of Japan via Zankyo Records. Released on n5MD and avaialable November 6th, 2007.

TRISOMIE 21 "RENDEZ-VOUS EN FRANCE"
TRISOMIE 21 belong to the legendary pioneers of the cold electronic music movement together with luminaries such as FRONT 242, NEON JUDGEMENT ,TUXEDOMOON, THE YOUNG GODS, etc. Originally formed in 1980 by the Lomprez brothers Hervé and Philippe, the French act often got compared to cold wave movement bands like THE CURE, JOY DIVISION, DURUTTI COLUMN, etc. With an impressive discography under their belt and a solid live experience gained through extensive touring across the whole world, TRISOMIE 21 have established a very strong reputation over the last 25 years and in that time, they have designed their very own music style described by most as cold wave electronic haunted by a dark soul. The singer's unique vocal tone and their unmatchable sense for touching deep melodies contributed to the rich character of the band. After seven years of impenetrable silence besides some scarce compilation appearances, TRISOMIE 21 surprised everyone by giving a new sign of life through a remix for the French mega pop stars of INDOCHINE in 2003, and by releasing their brand new studio album "Happy Mystery Child" the year after. A move that marked in stone the strong and impressive return of the French cold-wave cult band TRISOMIE 21 right back to the forefront of the scene. While revealing a more mature songwriting approach, more polished and refined melodies and strengthened choruses, the soul of the band had remained intact to the ultimate pleasure of their faithful early fanbase. Thanks to the band's openminded attitude and the fresh and modern tonality of this new album, "Happy Mystery Child" was also released in various remix forms allowing T21 to conquer new fans and find their way through the latest e-clash and electro/techno movements, through remixes by artists like David Carretta, The Hacker, Paul Kendall, Millimetric, The Horrorist, Lady B, etc. Released on Alfa Matrix and available November 30th, 2007.

In 2007, TRISOMIE 21 joined hands with the Belgian label Alfa Matrix for the celebration of the band's 25th anniversary.
For the occasion, Alfa-Matrix will release the live album "rendez-vous en France" which was recorded during the band's last "Happy Mystery tour" and which can be seen as a "best of" release of TRISOMIE 21. The stellar tracklist speaks for itself (the last song, red or green, il se noie, la fete triste, waiting for, midnight of my life, etc.)… This release also responds to the fans' pressing demand to get the good old hits re-released since T21's back-catalogue has been nearly impossible to find in record stores for many years. But the French brothers have much more to offer to their faithful fanbase by adding a bonus disc in the"25 years" limited carton box edition of the album which gathers a unique and splendid collection of 13 exclusive unreleased tracks and demo's; pure vintage material dating back from TRISOMIE 21's early days (between 1978 and 1981!!)… With a cherry on the (birthday) cake, the limited edition also includes 7 additional bonus live tracks recorded in Lille (France) including the rare favourites "Jakarta" and "Breaking Down". This limited edition also contains a button and postcard. A super limited large (25 cm x 33 cm) box "fan edition" is also available with the limited album as well. This special feature package includes a "This is not the last song" T-shirt (white on black, both sides) and some bonus goodies including 2 special 25 years postcards, 2 buttons, 2 stickers & 1 key chain. The size of the T-shirt inside the box can be chosen until stock exhaustion: M, L, XL. Released on Alfa Matrix and available November 30th, 2007.

GASR "REPTILE"

GASR are back, with their stunning sophomore release!
Imagine 'Survival of the Fittest' amped up, polished and mixed with heavy doses of political angst. A polemic with teeth, the album steps away from the sunny themes found on their debut, opting instead for an even gloomier, uncomfortably intimate record meant as a provocative, thoughtful and violent reaction to life in post-9/11 America. Once again, they combine elements of dark Electro, Industrial, and even hints of harsh EBM without sacrificing melody. For fans of Skinny Puppy, Flesh Field, Tear Garden, and NIN. Released on Nilaihah and available October 22nd, 2007.

Records these CDs have become much sought after items since going out of print a decade ago. Both XF albums have been digitally remastered, presenting the music in a quality previously unavailable. DJ ACUCRACK "HUMANOIDS FROM THE DEEP"
NOW SHIPPING!!
Chicago’s dark and dangerous duo are back with a frightening dose of drum n bass, breakbeat and industrial soundscapes. Recent tours with KMFDM and Frontline Assembly ramped up the exposure and attention for their last two albums “Killing Mobius” and “Mako Vs Geist” One of the few electronic artists to succcessfully fuse industrial elements with top-notch jungle production, DJ? Acucrack has worked hard over the years to cross the streams and build a fanbase of electronic music fans who don’t feel the need to be pigeonholed. The new album “Humanoids From the Deep” harkens back to the more eclectic offerings from Acucrack, and features Dean Garcia of Curve on several tracks. Grinding noise, fearsome subs, machine gun lyrics and pummeling beats share space with haunting melodies and otherworldly atmospheres, all tied with a bloody bow paying homage to the classic horror movie genre. Fearsome and dark, “Humanoids” is easily the most industrial-slanted Acucrack offering in years. Released on Crack nation.

ACUMEN NATION "PSYCHO THE RAPIST"
NOW SHIPPING!!
4-piece industrial-metal juggernaut from Chicago Acumen Nation are back with their 8th studio album, “Psycho the Rapist”. Often heralded as innovators of the original Coldwave music movement of the 90’s, Acumen Nation has powered their music towards the violent aspects of metal and drum n bass in the process of expanding their horizons. The 2006 release of “Anticore” found the Nation at their metal best, the most political and scathing album the band released to date. Small US tours with KMFDM and Frontline Assembly behind them, principal songwriter Jason Novak felt a strong reconnection to the industrial scene that helped to build them, and entered the studio in December of 2006 with a new urgency. The result is a mad, twisted concept album dealing with the horrors of the medical industry, the deluge of pharmaceutical drugs, and the darkest corners of the mind... also by far the most electronic, and industrial album the Nation has released in years. This album will unite the old school and new school Acumen fan, the ones blazing the coldwave tunes of yesteryear with the metal/jungle fans of the present. Released on Crack nation.

DAVID THRUSSELL "THE FETID FUNGI"
NOW SHIPPING!!
david thrussell is perhaps a poet trapped in the body of a hillbilly or maybe he is a hopeless romantic hidden in the twisted frame of a dark electronic musician. late at night thrussell fantasizes that he actually lives next door to hieronymus bosch in medieval europe and has hallucinated the whole dreadful modern era - hallucinations due to acute ergot poisoning. we are not entirely convinced that this is not the case. the world knows him (if it knows him at all), as the creator of a seemingly multitude of obscure recordings (snog, black lung and soma amongst others) and film scores (the hard word, thunderstruck etc). the world may (or may not) know him soon as an author of unhinged children's tales for a particularly depraved kind of adult. an adult that lives on the dark slope of a forgotten mountain and was last seen having an animated conversation with some rocks and a shrub. he is, to be frank, an odd little man. he is also the proprietor and head curator of the omni recording corporation. thrussell cites no great burning desire to be a recording industry mogul (in fact just the opposite) but nobody else seemed to be digging up these aural treasures - so he stepped up to the plate. for our sake, if for no other reason, please humor him. 'the fetid fungi' is thrussell's second spoken word album. like 'the voices of reason', released six years ago, it can not be seen as an 'audio book'. thrussell with a dark haunting voice speaks about mushrooms, diseases of civilization, the impact of machines on man, fear, and harassments. these illuminations are accompanied by soundscapes which are also used to introduce and to mesmerize the listener. 'ringtone', which can also be watched as a short film, is a modern adaptation of e.a.poe's 'the tell-tale heart'. in this version, technology has replaced the function of the human organ. the book features many astounding full page and full colour illustrations (drawings, etchings and prints - none ever seen before) drawn from the dark resesses of thrussell's nightmare world. the images are chilling yet strangely mirthful. enjoy this release if you can - and watch out for the boiled flying saucers on your dinner plate! released on ant-zen.
1. prelude 2. the fetid fungi 3. a town called desire 4. the chewing gum of hate 5. the writer 6. my dream 7. the ears 8. ringtone 9. welcome 10. coda

"This Is Hardcore" is the brand new full-length album from Madrid-based electronic music producer CTRLer, also known as collaborator of AMBASSADOR21 and PLACID.

Two years have been necessary for CTRLer to design, create and produce his third album. The title is a good description of what we are going to look for inside: fast beats, breakcore chaos and hard drum-n-bass. In the same line as his previous album "Noize For America" (D-Trash Records 2005), the new album is again full of samples from his favourite metal bands, such as MARILYN MANSON, TOOL or FEAR FACTORY. These names are not in the credits but it's not difficult to discover the samples if you listen carefully between noises, breaks and overdrives.
The first harsh song on the album that includes an ultra-fast sample from MINISTRY, is again a good example of the style of the album, but there are also songs as "Classics", which is produced mixing classical music samples and distorted breaks, or "The A Team" cover, which is one of the biggest success on the CTRLer crazy gigs. The album ends with a cover of the RAMONES' "Cretin Hop", which is far away from the original except from the lyrics. This song includes also a hidden surprise on the last minutes.

As bonus tracks, the album includes three remixes by BONG-RA, PROYECTO MIRAGE and RPA. The artwork, as usual, has been designed by Carolina Alcala, including a restyled logo and a very sexy cover. Released on Invasion Wreck Chords.

TONIKOM "EPOCH"
NOW SHIPPING!!
tonikom started as tonik in 2002, releasing several now-deleted cd-rs and changed the name to tonikom in 2006, documented in the album title 'tonikom killed tonik'. after two self-released albums, 'epoch' sees the light of day on hymen records - some kind of a logical conclusion; besides the aphex twin, meat beat manifesto, underworld, the orb and leftfield she also names hymen records' artist beefcake as one of her influences.

'epoch' is an enthralling mixture: the melodic richness of idm meet straight d'n'b breakbeat rhythms, electronic and acoustic instrumentation is enriched with well-placed sampling, sequenced patterns keep embedded ambient soundscapes together, supplemented by power and intensity known from other electronic sub-genres. a diversified, innovating, truly epoch-making release.

"this is electronic music that refuses to live on one planet, that flows like its namesake into the soul and distracts from reality." (tonikom). released on hymen.

SYNAPSCAPE "NOW"
NOW SHIPPING!!
with their sixth full length album synapscape (t.kniep and p.münch) continue and evolve what they started twelve years ago: powerful and versatile explorations in sound, rhythm and ambience.

this release is unmistakably synapscape - distorted polyrhythmic beats meet atonal synth tones, kniep's strange lyrics (coupled with his haunting alienated voice that is offset with various effects), and constant rhythmic changes (while the metric speed is kept). however, there is a readiness for experiments - thus they avoid turning a trademark into a corset.

synapscape's open mindedness to the electronic art combined with their ability to integrate characteristics of breakbeat, electronica and experimental music results (as usual) in a fascinating, unique sonic exploration. the possibilities are infinite as their producing was, is, and will be.

this is where they are now - another landmark in contemporary industrial music. released on ant-zen.

VROMB "SOUS HYPNOSE"
NOW SHIPPING!!
hypnosis - a process in which the critical thinking faculties of the mind are bypassed and a type of selective thinking/perception is established. this process can be achieved without any impact (consider the mind when it is half asleep or half awake). this album's intention is to aurally simulate a hypnosis session (such as one conducted by a hypnotherapist). if a 'subject' is willing to engage with the topic then different steps of hypnosis can be retraced while listening: preparation, induction (taking the subject from normal awareness to a state of enhanced relaxation), deepening (taking the subject from a very relaxed state into the fully 'hypnotized' state, where conscious thinking is minimized), purpose (when the subjects are asked to say or perform things) and finally awakening (when the subject is taken out of the hypnotic state). the music starts with straight forward (but calm) rhythmic patterns - patterns that are in place to reach a state of trance. the music changes the same way as the subject's perception does: rhythm is replaced with surreal ambient soundscapes, incomprehensible voices start to talk and then a constant but always changing flow takes over - a strange and unfamiliar experience is the result - due to the subject's inexperience. but the experience is never threatening as the final process of awakening is performed very carefully. either way, the subject will immediately realize the session is over. it matters not if you take the invitation to use 'sous hypnose' as an occasion to start a fascinating experiment, or if you just want to enjoy the new work of vromb; this album is a highly recommended document of today's serious electronic music (as all of this great canadian artist's releases are). released on ant-zen.

METHOD OF DEFIANCE "INAMORATA"
NOW SHIPPING!!
Bill Laswell enlists influential musicians Herbie Hancock, Pharoah Sanders, Buckethead, John Zorn, and others in collaborating with the cream of the drum n bass crop - represented by Evol Intent, Paradox, Submerged, Black Empire, Fanu, and others, to create a memorable masterpiece. Electronics vs. musicians in an unforgettable journey through uncharted territories.

Method of Defiance is Bill Laswell’s newest super group - drum n bass/electronic beat meets flesh and blood musicians. Inamorata is possibly one of his most ambitious projects in a prolific career that has included producing Grammy winning albums and singles for Herbie Hancock – who makes an appearance here on electric piano, playing over Paradox breaks. All in all, 12 beatsmiths were commissioned from the top tiers of drum n bass – including Black Sun Empire, Evol Intent, Submerged, new wunderkinds Amit, and Fanu, and also Metalheadz stalwarts Outrage and DStar.

Musicians were selected from the Miles Davis era of electronic fusion (Pete Cosey, Dave Liebman) to modern virtuosos such as Buckethead and Nils Petr Molvaer. The world of free jazz and avant composition weighs in throughout, with John Zorn and the Masada Strings, Toshinori Kondo, and legendary tenor player Pharoah Sanders.

The concept of combining electronic beatmasters and virtuostic players has yielded an unforgettable masterpiece – a dark vortex of electronics and musicians blending into an infinitely listenable journey. Released on Ohm Resistance.
