Those who have not yet purchased tickets might want to do so before this coming
Friday morning (9/25), the reason being that tickets for a month-long engagement
of the Broadway musical WICKED go on general sale to the public at 7am that day
and we are expecting our phone lines, website and box office windows to be
flooded with activity for at least a couple of weeks. In fact, we have sold
over 25,000 Wicked tickets this week alone via presale to our members. We have
a total of 100,000 seats to sell, and expect to sell about 8000 to 10,000
tickets per day starting Friday morning and continuing until they are all gone
(in fact, we expect people to camp out here starting Thursday night). In short,
if you wish to avoid telephone holds, online delays or standing in line, you
might want to make your purchase now.
Hope to see you here!
Paul
Hello,
Thank you for the photos! I'm especially looking forward to more Dagmar pics -
she looks strong (literally, check out that bicep!). As a side note, I
occasionally pass a woman on my way home who bears a striking resemblance to
HCow-era Dagmar - facially, haircut, etc. - and I do a double-take every time I
see her.
Thanks again,
Drew

Yeah, especially, since the box sets are an amazing wonder... I bought two
copies so I could have one at my girlfriend's house and one at mine...
Relistening reminds me how much I love the music.
I'm with you Juan as well as darrenwsly
I would like to see a beautifully produced hardback book, maybe in a box. While
the internet is a brilliant thing there is no pride of ownership and perhaps
little value attached to digital downloads. It was always a joy to get hold of
things like the sampler with its glitter cover and nimbus pressings, or winter
songs gold-embossed with the booklet on art paper.
lately it has also been a joy to get the beautifully produced HC 40th
anniversary box, which caused no little excitement on this site.
I like music to be packaged as a beautiful object. That's where I am coming
from.
But Chris has only just got through with the HC 40th box, a monumental project.
I think any book would have to be subs funded and wait for a feasibility
threshold to be passed, like the currently proposed Points East box.
People are increasingly going big-ticket on legacy items anyway, and they are
limited hardcopy items - just two examples (I hope this does not cause any
spluttering at Megacorps Headquarters) are the latest rune grammofon sampler,
the Joy Division vinyl box, and Warp20. I think this is the way to go with
legacy. And HC definitely deserves it
As to music, I would think it is all used up but I loved the Art Bears Revisited
and maybe an HC equivalent would work...
I can totally sympathise with your points Chris, but if it did turn out to be a
runner in the way I am envisaging, count me in as a sub

Having the book in digital format will be an easy mean for making
illegal copies.
In my case, I’d HELP by buying 10 copies (and then either
sell it or giving them to interested parties). If we start the “The NEW
hc Book society” list and 100 people join, there will be 1000 books sold
in advance.
The question would be, how much is ONE book? (remember we must
agree in buying 10 copies).
That’s my opinion.
See you,

Chris, have you considered e-publishing? You
could assemble and sell a new HC book online as an e-book. That should reduce
costs and publication times. I know it's more complicated than that, but
someone with more experience in this field than me can comment.

but it takes a lot of time and i'm not sure how much interest there'd be in

FYI: Chris has addressed the idea of a reprint of the Henry Cow
Book back in February on the All About Jazz forums (edited
quote below, check the bottom of Chris' quote linked here for
the complete context):
http://tinyurl.com/nv5nub
"...will the Henry Cow Book be available for purchase again
anytime soon?
Yes. See above. The Cow Book won't be reprinted but a new
book with that material and the box book materials is an idea.
As always time and money are the barriers. Books are costly to
print, especially if they are nicely designed. Who would buy such
a book? But the idea is afloat…thanks"
So there we are.

I hasten to add that what I had in mind was a 'print on demand' version
- cheap to produce (about 50 copies sold would make it profitable) and
available in perpetuity.

Third that motion... and the price tag, if the book was hardback, completely updated with lavish photos, and maybe a bonus CD... ;)

Hi Charlie,
Its nice that you remember me! Yes I did used to write for Audion, but gave up
some years ago after disagreeing with them on several occasions as to what
constituted the sort of music they ought to be covering. I'm pretty amazed they
keep going when the magazine seems firmly stuck in the past, as does their
record list -I still read it from time to time but rarley find anything new in
it. I've long since got all the archive stuff I want and I'm now only interested
in new music not reissues or achive stuff.
Cheers,
Alan

On another note - seeing Alan Terril's name here reminded me of Audion magazine which I used to buy in the 80s (I'm sure he was a contributer). I am staggered to see the Freemans are STILL producing this! http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/ultimathule/audion.html
I'd guess it's still as lovingly detailed a read as it was back then.
