Re: [Robby Vee Forum] Robby Vee UK Tour

I personally dont think he has to play his fathers music

because he is without a doubt his own man and his style is totally

different and its him were coming to see but also there was a fair

proportion of the crowd at each show that wanted to hear it so i

guess its a no win situation for Robby.-

HIS FATHERS MUSIC. WHEN DID ROBBBY'S DAD START PLAYING MUSIC? IN CHICAGO, WE ARE
ALL JUST ROBBY FANS. AND THAT'S THE TRUTH!????????????????

Subject: [Robby Vee Forum] Robby Vee UK Tour

Hey All,

First off, If anyone wants to download files containing video footage

then the file must be smaller than 5120kb which works out at about 1

minutes worth of footage.

I have sent a request to yahoo to see if we can get round this as all

my videos of the your are a minimum of 20 minutes and am waiting for

a reply so i'll keep you all informed.

So!!!! To the tour or rather my experiance of it.

I was fortunate enough to go to 3 shows, The Half Moon, The Chequers

and Riffs Bar and all 3 were excellant, although the core of each

show was the same they (they as in "the band") played a selection of

different songs at each venue so really no 2 shows were the same.

Robby was joined by his cousin Paul on bass (The JD & Coke man) and a

drummer called Paul Attwell who was formerly with the group Edison

Lighthouse and in my opinion were a very tight group who gelled very

well together. I noticed that the show was better each time and the

show at Riffs Bar, Swindon was by far the best.

Each show contained the instrumental opening followed by Whole Worlds

Rockin, Million Moons, Limosine Ride, Champagne Lane, Satellite, Take

The Cap Of The Bottle, Swing a Ling, I Might, Jambalaya and my

personal favourite Champagne Lane then there was the customary Bobby

Vee set.

Again this is just my opinion but i feel sorry for Robby in this

respect. I personally dont think he has to play his fathers music

because he is without a doubt his own man and his style is totally

different and its him were coming to see but also there was a fair

proportion of the crowd at each show that wanted to hear it so i

guess its a no win situation for Robby.

Also i'm going to completly rock the boat out here and i hope start a

discussion becuase i'd be intrested to hear other peoples views on

this!!!!!!!

After sitting down and listening to Satellite about 50 times in

succession (which is coming close to knocking Champagne Lane of the

top as my favourite)then Champagne Lane, Million Moons, Whole Worlds

Rockin and Limosine Ride i have a feeling that Robby would very

succesful if he went more mainstream!!!!! i dont mean pop or anything

cheesy but to me Satellite if it was bumped out more and by that i

mean add a more vibrant string section more rytham guitar and it

would definatly hold up in todays UK market and maybe chart!!!!

I know he is a rocker and a very good one at that but to me his best

songs are the ones i mentioned above and with the exception of Whole

Worlds Rockin they are not the Rock N Roll there nore mellow and laid

back and his strongest songs.

Ok you can lynch me now!!!!sorry Robby.

Back to the tour though I was fortunate enough to have them play at

my place of work "The Chequers" and although very small and compact

was a great show. We managed to record the whole show both on dvd &

cd so that has been played a few times since lol.

Riffs Bar in Swindon was a great night, 2 encores and a happy

birthday to a gentleman from the audiance who was invited on stage to

do a very funny and weird dance to us all while we sang, very funny

and i'm guessing from the pictures in the file area that they managed

to find the Eddie Cochran memorial finally after a plea on stage to

the crowd for directions lol.

In addition to the core set list and the Bobby Vee section which at

each venue was basically the crowd shouting out what they wanted to

hear and Robby sang them (very well) he played a good set of songs

from Eddie Cochran, Johnny Cash, Elvis, Freddy Cannon, and a few

others i cant remember now lol.

Each show was different in terms of time, in London they played and

hour had a break then did another 90 minutes with the encore at The

Chequers it was an hour followed by another hour followed by another

20 minutes and at Swindon it was 70 minutes then an hour then 20

minutes then 10 minutes so there really was no set pattern. I did

notice that Robby had a piece of paper with him with the set list

written down but from what i can tell it didnt always pan out that

way hahahah.

It was great to meet Wendy and her other half Dave, lovely people and

a real pleasure to meet them both. They were looking tired towards

the end of the tour though.

Paul the drummer and his companion Kathy again were lovely and i

spent a lot of time talking to them both and a special mention must

go out to Robbys Cousin Paul, never have i seen a man knock back so

much JD and Coke and still not miss a single note during the whole

set, he also sang a couple of songs which were very good and kept up

the banter on stage with Robby which was funny, i lost count of the

number of names Robby gave him during his introduction lol

All i can say is i look forward to them coming back next year

and "The Chequers" i hope is already down on the tour.

Thanks to everyone involved

Gareth
