CIS and Twin Array Scanners   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #1759 of 2283 |
In recent months, in addition to 22 A4 CIS that I have acquired
out of Visioneer Strobe sheet fed scanners, John McClelland and
Josh Rapier have also acquired a number. This is just a brief
note to let all know that ample quantities of these A4 CIS are
now available for as many twin array scanners as may emerge in
the foreseeable future. Just wanted to let all know in case
there are others out there like me who have been following on
eBay scanners equipped with A4 CIS.

I recently got a call from David Krall in Hammond, Indiana. He
was among that initial group who acquired an A3 CIS through Bob
Pinsker's thoughtfulness. David has 2 of them and has decided
he is not going to build a scanner, and is prepared to part with
them. He can be reached at:

And recently I acquired a Mustek A3 scanner off eBay for a
reasonable price that contains an A3 CIS. That makes 2 spares
that I have available. So we now seen to have some spares
around for anybody new who wants to build a scanner.

Many of us are following Larry Doe's blog watching with great
interest his success in building a high precision A3 scanner,
the successfully developing a way to capture lyrics simultaneous
with the scan. If you haven't been following this, good idea
to check his blog every Monday at:

While Larry has been successful in capturing lyrics and perfs in
a single pass through his scanner, the lyrics are being stored
for archival purposes at this time. No doubt some clever
person will find a way someday to convert the lyrics from
graphic data into digital data. According to his blog, he
has been successful in achieving this by means of bi-color ccfl
lamps.

His success begs the question - "What about a twin-array bi-
color scanner?" The motivation for bi-color at this time has
been to capture the lyrics on 88n rolls, and possibly play
instructions on 116n organ rolls and the like.

Is there a need for a twin-array bi-color scanner? What wide
rolls are out there with printing of some kind that should be
captured simultaneous with the perfs? How significant in
numbers?

Thoughts of others?

Regards,

Terry
