Description

NOTE: Since February, 2008, all new information has been posted to our blog at www.FieldDrums.com and not added here (except for comments left here). The group moderator here is also the blogmaster there. The focus was moved to the blog because of superior funtionality available there.

Dedicated to research and the study of old field drums (rope tension and rod tension) used by the military and by civilians in bands and drums corps. The purpose is to assemble information concerning the manufacture, preservation, conservancy and repair of old field drums and to make that information available to scholars, collectors and others interested in old field drums. Photographs of drums, drum-making and repairing are welcome, together with educational and informative narratives.

(Drum in photo is 1862 Wm. S. Tompkins (Yonkers, NY), restored from shell, flesh hoops and counter-hoops by Jim Ellis of Cooperman Fife & Drum Co. (VT). Ellis Mirsky, owner)
