Dear Rudgate listees,
The beautiful splash of yesterday's wonderful event at Scunthorpe is now spreading its ever-widening circles in the pools of Cambridge as well - and via the CBC Friends list to all the far-flung corners of the world where we have members, from California, Mexico and Chile in the west to Japan in the east!
This is what I have sent to my own list just now, in response to a message of Mike's, and I had an afterthought that it might perhaps be justified to copy it to the Rudgate list as well, if for no other reason at least to let you know that your efforts are being appreciated in ever wider circles....! :-)
So, here you are, with my compliments! :

...and if you go to Mike's Rudgate Singers' website (link provided under Mike's name at the end of his message below) you will find a very well-designed site indeed: the work of one of the ladies of the choir, I believe! And Mike has managed to upload both photos and sound bites already from yesterday's performance! (Some of us have a very great deal to learn when it comes to that kind of web-design efficiency..! :-) )
The Rudgate singers come from quite a wide area, and therefore the composition of the choir varies: I think Mike said that it can vary between, say, 8 and 20, and yesterday we were somewhere halfway between: perhaps 12 to 14 singers. But, in addition, there was a small but very proficient gregorian schola (just two gentlemen actually on this occasion, but very good they were - but we all joined in in the plainsong too where appropriate - and the occasion was a full solemn high mass, with all that that means of quite a crowd of clergy and servers: "the whole holy ballet" as they used to say, not irreverently meant, in the days of yore when this sort of thing was the aspirable norm and general ideal rather than the exception: "God's children at play", as they also used to say, joining the heavenly hosts of angels and saints in divine praises!
In any case, a very enjoyable day was had by all, for the promotion of a great and worthy intention: the performance of the great traditional Latin liturgical music in the context for which it was originally written...
I take the liberty of appending a message of Mike's to his own list at the end of this one: I don't think Mike will mind! :-)

It was a great pleasure yesterday, to finally meet (and sing with) our
esteemed List Owner & Moderator himself - N B-A in the flesh!
The occasion was a Solemn High Mass in the Traditional Roman Rite in a
church in Scunthorpe where the Rudgate Singers had been invited to sing. I'd
asked Nick if he fancied the drive from Cambridge to come along and sing,
and, to my great delight, he did!
Nick, it was a pleasure to meet you, and sing, and the pub wasn't too bad
either!
I hope we can repeat the experience soon. :-)

And this is Mike's earlier message to his own list: it gives an idea of the good atmosphere:

wonderful occasion, which meant so much to several people - me included!
Our grateful thanks also to Fr. Cahill for inviting us Bernard & Fr.
O'Connor and the Servers, Jeremy and the Organist (who's name I keep
forgetting to my eternal shame!) for making the day so special.
One lady came up to me in the car park after Mass and told me that she felt
that she had been in Heaven....
I can't top that, so I add once again, my thanks to all involved.
Mike.
PS. There are some photos of us in the Photo Section taken during rehearsal
just before Mass and some group pics taken just after. I hope to include
pictures of the actual Mass too, when I've uploaded my own. I hope to see
other pictures of the Mass also. In addition, there are some small sound
recordings in the Files Section.
