The same weekend as the Rudgates were singing at Scunthorpe, the Schola
Gregoriana (who have sung with the Rudgates before, as many of you will
remember) were singing our annual High Mass at Brinkburn.
The Mass was said by Fr Emerson, with Fr Brown as deacon and Fr Swales as
subdeacon.
Under the direction of the indefatigable Ian Graham, we sang the
(plainchant) Mass of the Exultation of the Holy Cross at noon on
Saturday, with Cappella Novocastriensies (directed by Eric Cross) singing
the ordinary - Byrd's 4-part Mass, and his Ave Verum at Communion.
We ended the Mass (well attended, including in the congregation Michael
Davies, international president of Una Voce) with the solemn chant version
of the Salve Regina, and Peter Locke, as ever, gave a virtuoso performance
on the organ.
It was a fabulous occasion in a fabulous setting - but we have no www site,
recordings or photos to show it off, alas...
It is also worth noting the our bishop, Ambrose Griffiths OSN has just given
permission for another weekly Sunday Mass in the Old Rite - to be said at
Barnard Castle by Fr Elkin.
