All Souls Solemn Requiem - Sheffield   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #45 of 228 |
Having just about recovered from all the wonderful things that were said after the Mass in Scunthorpe, it's now time to start actively planning for the next service, which is the Solemn Requiem Mass in St Teresa's Church, Sheffield.

Click on the link and you should be able to see pictures of the place.

Music as most of you will know is the FOUR part Requiem by Victoria, NOT the six-part Requiem which we've sung twice before.

We're now actively searching for singers, particularly Sopranos and Tenors. We could do with another Bass too, so we can split in the Offertory. We will also be without some people who sang in Scunthorpe, due to other commitments.

Right now, we have confirmed:

one Soprano
three Altos
two Tenors
three Basses

I know it's still very early days but any suggestions as to how we can fill in the gaps will be warmly welcomed! Then we can get on with planning rehearsals sooner rather than later!! I already have the music printed out ready for distribution, and will be sending it out to those who have confirmed they are singing during the next week, along with street maps showing the location of the church....

The music (I kid you not), isn't that difficult.....

The top line (usually Soprano, but occasionally Alto) is basically the Gregorian Chant.

I'll shut up now because I can't think of anything else to add. No doubt i'll have forgotten something as usual (in Scunthorpe it was music for Credo III....!)

Hope to see some of you before the Mass [at rehearsals! :-)  ], some of you AT the Mass, if you can make it, and for people who can't sing in Sheffield, don't forget we have a Carol Service in Pickering just over a month after on Friday 6th December! We also have an invitation to sing in St Joseph's Church, Scarborough. No date as yet, but probably on a Saturday afternoon/evening early-ish next year.

Mike

I knew I'd forget something! The parts of the Mass that Victoria didn't set, will be Gregorian Chant. It is hoped that the same excellent Schola who sang at...
