I can certainly turn up at 4.00 but am a little confused as to what is
happening between 4.00 and 5.00 (apart from drinking tea). I had 5.45 as the
time for the choir's warm up rather than the congregational rehearsal.
Anyway, I will turn up at 4.00 unless you advise to the contrary. - it is
only a short cycle ride for me!
Philip
[Philip, and everyone else who is singing, apologies for any confusion, but the
goalposts have been moved somewhat by a very enthusiastic priest, who has
announced that at 5.45 there will be a general rehearsal for anyone in the
congregation who wishes to sing the Missa de Angelis. There may be some time
left after this, but I'm conscious that the Chant Propers need looking at -
particularly the Offertory - properly, instead of being tagged onto the end of
the main rehearsal, now with congregation.......
You are most welcome to turn up at 4 for a cuppa, I daresay if we ask nicely,
maybe even something a bit stronger:-) I don't envisage starting to look at
music until 4.45, so that is the time we now need the chanters please!
Bernadette has suggested for non-chant people that arrival at 5.15 should be OK.
I don't think we'll need half an hour to look at the polyphonic items, so we
should get a bit of a break before teaching the good people of York how to sing
the Missa de Angelis again.<VBG> I reckon it's over 20 years since it last made
an appearance in this city. (Anyone who can correct me here, please feel free to
do so).
Some of us are then going to repeat the de Angelis experience, with potentially
even more people at Byland Abbey on 17th May. Then we have Crowle - more details
on that to follow - one or two extra-musical-curricular activities for a few of
us + a wedding in which many of us will be singing. It's going to be a busy 5 or
six weeks ahead!
We've also made the What's on Section in the Yorkshire Evening Press - so I'm
told, though I haven't seen it personally.
