Cum Nulla Celebration - York Minster   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #86 of 228 |
Dear All,

In an earlier message I wrote...[One of these days, when I get truly
organised, I intend not only to publish
all our future events/services here as soon as I know about them, but also
to
publicise events and services by other singing groups who share the same
ideals
as us, and whose singers either currently sing or have sung with us in the
past. The basic criteria is the restoration of sacred music - be it Chant,
Renaissance Polyphony, or other suitable music - to its proper liturgical
context.

Whilst I may not be 100% in matters organisational yet, and while not all
the music may be strictly liturgical, I'm going to shamelessly plug an event
taking place later this month in York Minster, as there are one or two of us
taking part, and the group - Rosa Alba - is directed by our very own Lisa
Colton.

The event itself is to mark the 550th anniversary of the papal bull 'cum
nulla' , summarised very briefly as the extension of the Carmelite way of
life to Nuns and ultimately lay-people. The Carmeltes - Monks, Nuns and
lay-members - are having a massive celebration in York Minster on 16th May
at 11.30am. The preacher at this service will be the Most Rev. Fr. Joseph
Chalmers, O.Carm. Prior General of the Carmelite Order.

Admission is by free ticket and these will be allocated on a first come,
first served basis.

Rosa Alba (a group specialising in early medieval music) will be singing
from about 10.30 for 30-40 minutes [is that correct, Lisa?] and then during
the service itself.
