Hey hey,
Thought you may like it... Actually, you will.
The Tiger Lillies, the cultish macabrish british group will perform at UCLA on Tuesday, 10/28/2003 at 8 P.M.
There are many reasons why russian listeners like The Tiger Lillies... They are too shockingly "svoi" in their grotesque songs and manner. Since their introduction to the audiences in Moscow and St. Petersburg in 2000, The Tiger Lillies are the frequent guests there. In fact, I first found out about the band from a review in gazeta.ru. And the first impression was: Tom Waits with a castrati voice. Of course, there's more to it: pan-European influences ranging across German cabaret, British music hall tunes, gypsy ballads, French chanson, Swiss yodeling, Spanish flamenco and Viennese waltzes, as well as American influences - grinding torch-songs, dirty blues and scum bucket jazz. Suddenly, the world opens up and names such as Jacques Brel, Spike Jones, Bessie Smith, Edith Piaf, Kurt Weill, Tom Waits, Georg Kreisler, Max Miller, George Formby, Louis Armstrong, Noel Coward, Sophie Tucker, Maria Callas, Federico Fellini and Johnny Rotten spring to mind.

And this huge musical landscape achieved by economical means: a stand-up acoustic bass, an accordion and a drum kit. That's all. Quite impressive.

I think you guys will enjoy it. They're too "russian" to miss - ok, I'm a little bit cynical here.
