Attention all Sweet Adeline Members and Fans:
Do you have a special student, chorus member or child in
grades 8 - 12 who enjoys barbershop as much as you do? If so, why
not consider giving them a scholarship to attend the annual Buckeye
Invitational High School Harmony Camp in Columbus, Ohio? The camp
runs for 4 days from August 15 - 18, culminating with a performance
on Friday evening at the beautiful Palace Theater in conjunction with
the Buckeye Invitational. The camp is run by some of the most
prestigious members of SPEBSQSA and Sweet Adelines International, and
this year they anticipate an attendance of about 225 kids.
The Vallee de Croix Chorus has a 16-year old member that they
are sending to the camp, and she is getting very excited about
going. Ann has been a member of VdC chorus for 2 years now, when she
finally convinced her Mom to let her join. Her youth, her
enthusiasm, and eagerness to learn brings renewed energy to our
chorus.
Pat Zentner will be driving her daughter to Columbus and will
be serving as a counselor while she is there. She has requested that
I post this message to let you know that she has room in her car for
2 additional girls from this area, if they were in need of
transportation. If you are interested, please contact Pat at
zentner@....
If you are interested in finding out more about the High
School Harmony Camp, please contact Mike Renner at
harmcamp@.... If you are interested in finding out
more about the Buckeye Invitational, please go to their website at

I know I've been lazy for a while now, but I'm assuming everyone checks the
Regional and District Calendars for barbershop events regularly. And this is the
first message I've received in a while to send out.
-------------------Calendar repeat ---------
The only additional event I'd like to repeat mention (as I only recently added
it to the Regional calendar) is the Lakes Area Holiday Show, Saturday December
4th at 7pm at the Forest Lake High School on Hwy 97. Contact June Dale for
tickets at (651) 257-8012. That's the most recent addition to the Region 6
calendar. Everything else has been there for quite some time now.
-------------------- Reminder -------------
"CAN'T STOP SINGING" - 12-5-99 - ONE LAST PLEA!
As you have no doubt heard by now, the showing of the terrific
documentary, "Can't Stop Singing," is set for Sunday, December 5th, from
3 to 5 PM on KTCA, channel 2 in the Twin Cities area and environs. As
an added bonus, you can tune in and see some of your SPEBSQSA and Sweet
Adelines friends who have volunteered to staff the phones at the station
that day.
We've said it before, but it bears repeating; the likelihood of seeing
this kind of programming frequently in the Twin Cities in the future
depends on how much money is raised during the showing. There will be
four 10 minute pledge breaks during that time period, but calls can be
made to the station any time during the telecast.
If you are already a public television supporter, this would be an
excellent time to renew your annual pledge. If you are not a current
member, please consider becoming one during the above time slot.
Memberships are offered at various levels, but contributions in any
amount are always welcome.
It would also be appreciated if you would take the time to contact your
friends and relatives and ask them to tune in and provide support.
Enjoy the show and thanks for your consideration of monetary support.
You will be doing a great favor for your hobby.

Hello SAI Region 6 members and fans. The following two messages are
self-explanatory regarding the exciting documentary "Can't Stop Singing"
which will be shown on the Twin Cities PBS station, KTCA, Channel 2 on
Sunday, December 5th, from 3 to 5 PM. Members of Sweet Adelines, as
well as barbershoppers, will be on hand that day to staff the phones for
that station's December pledge drive. Hope you will all be able to
watch it!

DATE AND TIME SET FOR "CAN'T STOP SINGING" AIRING IN TWIN CITIES
As a follow-up to my note of last week, the time and date have now been
"cast in stone" for the showing of "Can't Stop Singing" on KTCA, Channel
2, public television, in the Twin Cities. This excellent documentary,
produced by Georgia Public Television at the 1998 Atlanta International
Convention, will be shown on Sunday, December 5th, from 3:00 to 5:00
p.m., with four 10-minute pledge breaks.
I want to thank everyone who took the time to write or call the station
to encourage them to air CSS. Unfortunately, it was not an easy
decision for Twin Cities Public Television to air this show, as they for
some reason did not have a favorable impression of past
barbershop-related specials. Accordingly, your messages of
encouragement were crucial in bringing this fine documentary to the
public.
At the risk of being repetitive, I want to once again encourage all of
you to favorably consider making a pledge in support of Twin Cities
Public Television during the showing of CSS on December 5th. A
favorable pledge response during the show will ensure that programming
of this type will be repeated in the future. I personally believe
public television provides excellent programming and is worthy of your
support. For those of you who, like me, are already supporters, you
might consider extending or renewing your annual support during the
telecast. It would also be an excellent idea for all of you to contact
your friends and family, and ask them to similarly provide support
during the show.
I believe we will have a cadre of barbershoppers volunteering to staff
the pledge phones that afternoon, and an attempt will also be made to
bring in a top-notch quartet to provide live entertainment.

GREAT NEWS! CSS TO BE AIRED IN TWIN CITIES!
After much deliberation, the Twin Cities PBS station, KTCA, has decided
to air "Can't Stop Singing" during its December pledge drive. While the
exact timing is yet to be determined, the likely time slot will be
Sunday, December 5th, in the early evening. I will send a later notice
when the exact time is announced.
For anyone reading this who is not aware, "Can't Stop Singing" is an
excellent documentary produced by Georgia Public Television at the 1998
Atlanta International Convention of SPEBSQSA, which follows the
behind-the-scenes fortunes of four quartets, 1998 winner, "Revival,"
eventual 1999 champion, "FRED," long-time medallist, "Bank Street," and
first-time International contestant, "Turning Point."
Thanks to everyone who took the time to write or call the station to
encourage them to show CSS. KTCA spent a lot of time "on the fence" in
making this decision. They apparently have an impression that some
earlier barbershop related shows did not "pledge well." I was told
that, in their planning process, CSS had been in and out of their
December pledge schedule several times, but it was finally decided to be
included because it "is better than past barbershop-related shows," and
many calls and letters of support for the showing were received.
I believe we have been presented with a great opportunity to change what
apparently is, at best, a neutral attitude toward barbershop music at
our local PBS station and to encourage more of this type of programming
in the future. I plan to discuss with my chorus (Greater St. Paul Area)
the staffing of the telephones at the station the night of the showing.
Anyone else in the area who is interested in doing so, should contact
me. In addition, I hope to convince a top-notch quartet to provide some
live entertainment that evening.
All of that is well and good, but the GREATEST opportunity to accomplish
our objectives lies in the area of pledging. For those of you who are
able, I cannot encourage you strongly enough to make a pledge to public
television during the showing of CSS. Please encourage your fellow
members, family and friends to do the same. If the funds raised during
the showing are well above average, we could very well favorably change
the perception of barbershopping at Minnesota Public Television for many
years to come. If, on the other hand, after we have begged, pleaded and
cajoled them to air this fine production, the results are not good, the
opposite could be true. So, please give generously and take the time to
encourage others to do the same.
Thanks,
Jim Lee

It is with a very sad heart that I pass on the news that Judy Tschimperle,
formerly Twin Cities Chorus member and bass in JB Jamboree & Jet Set, passed
away Friday, August 27, 1999 at approximately 2:10pm. Cause of death was cancer
of the liver and pancreas.
Reviewal: Sun, 4-8pm, Gill Brothers, 9947 Lindale, Bloomington, MN
Burial: Monday, at 11am at St. Bonaventure Church, 901 E 90th St, Bloomington,
MN
Cards may be sent to her family ... The Tschimperle's, 324 W. 95th St.,
Bloomington, MN 55420 (husband-Butz, Songs-Kenny & David)
They are asking that memorials be sent to the American Cancer Society or St.
Bonaventure Church.
Judy was an absolute JOY to sing with as a bass, and one of the biggest reasons
I'm still singing barbershop. She was the positive viewpoint at our every
performance. She was one of those rare talents who could "hear" optional
tags/harmonies in her head. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
Judy will always be in our hearts!

Have concluded after much tho't that we'll keep both SAI6Memb and SAI6Fans.
Just be aware that there's a difference and that you don't need to sign up for
both lists to get your news out.
I'll be responsible for culling SAI6Memb news for items of interest to pass on
to SAI6Fans.
I've asked that SAI6Memb add a little note in the margins to me if they want
some news to go to SAI6Fans so I don't miss something.
Thanks for your patience with this new moderator.
barbara.harvey@...
Hi all, I think I've decided to combine both the SAI6Fans and SAI6Memb onelists
into one list called SAI6Bulletins if that's alright with all of you.
I find it very annoying getting mail twice! And now that I'll be moderating both
lists, I don't need the extra work. I'm doubting we'll send out much info that
non-members shouldn't see. (If it is, I CAN LABEL it - SAI6MembsOnly or
something.
However, Valeria Olson makes a good point in that City of Lakes and/or
individual choruses have good use for lists going to JUST their membership. So
I'm proposing that each chorus assign someone to start their own onelist, send
me the name of it, & I'll add the "subscription code" for it to each individual
chorus page.
That way, it can be tailored to fit each group and when they want to let the
region and other barbershoppers know, use the SAI6Bulletins route.
What do you think?
I'm going to leave it as is for about 2 weeks, and wait to hear what your
opinions are first before I go ahead with this. Maybe someone will have a better
idea?
If your also subscribed to SAI6Memb - you already got this message!
-------------
Check the R6 website out when you have time! As R6 webmaster, I've also added
photos to the quartet and chorus pages. Got pics of the new Regional Management
team too.
Unfortunately, I only got pictures of the medalists, not everyone. Bev Swanson &
I are working on getting copies of the other competitors.
Spread the word on to quartets and choruses who didn't compete to send me their
photos and new info. I'll even do the scanning! My address is on the website
(under "About Your Webmaster")
